Chapter Text
Ice Cream Cake
“Alright, which one of you ate the last piece of ice cream cake?” Aurore called out from the kitchen, causing both the young men in the living room to look up from their activities. The doll made her way into the living room. “I know it was one of you. There’s even crumbs on the couch.”
“My love, what do you mean?” Xingqiu responded, gently placing a bookmark in his book and taking a moment to push up his glasses after setting the book aside. “Last time I checked, there was still some left.” Of course, that wasn’t too long ago, when he took the last slice for himself, but the hydro user wasn’t about to let that slip. He was still a bit chilly from the last time he ate the last of one of her sweets. Though, that may also be due to the other cryo user sitting not too far from him, on the other side of the couch.
“Chongyun, what about you?” Aurore turned her attention to the exorcist.
The icy haired young man glanced over at Xingqiu, who had moved to resume reading his novel. “Well… it wasn’t there when I went to get a popsicle.” He lightly waved the popsicle stick in his hand. “That was just a few minutes ago.” When he saw Xingqiu tense up slightly from the corner of his eye, Chongyun made a mental note to apologize to him later. Though, he supposed it was a form of payback for spiking the dipping sauce for his cold soba noodles with Jueyun chili oil yesterday.
To the surprise of both young men, Aurore simply sighed, and sat down between them. “Oh well. Guess it would have to remain a mystery. How strange.” She replied. “Guess I’ll have to get another one later. Maybe a roll cake?”
Suddenly, Chongyun stood up. “I can go and get one. We need more popsicles, anyway.” He offered, heading towards the door after giving the other two kisses on the cheek. “Anything else we need?” He asked while putting on his shoes. As he spoke, he gave an apologetic smile to Xingqiu.
“Nothing I can think of. I’ll call you if I think of anything. Thank you, though.” Aurore answered, now cuddling up to Xingqiu. Once Chongyun left, she turned her attention towards the bookworm next to her. Near his mouth, she noticed a single stray sprinkle. It looked almost like the ones on the… cake… wait a minute. Now that she actually thought about it, his alibi didn’t quite make sense. “Xingqiu, dear?” She smiled innocently at him, though now there was a distinct chill in the air. “You ate the last piece, didn’t you?”
Instead of answering, Xingqiu abruptly stood up, laughing awkwardly. “Sorry, I just remembered I had some library books I have to return!” Before Aurore could fully process, he ran as fast as he could out the door.
“Wh- Xingqiu! Get back here!” Aurore called out, running after him.
