There has always been an ache in your chest for something that you never knew what for. The day you turned 16 was when the feeling started, but that’s what happens to everyone on their eighteenth birthday in your reality. They say it’s because you have a soulmate waiting for you. But your ache was two times worse than everyone else’s. Your parents had an appointment made to make sure that it was the soulmate ache and that nothing was physically wrong with you. The thing was that the doctor told you it was two times worse than the average person’s because you had two soulmates. It wasn’t rare to have multiple soulmates, it just didn’t happen where you lived.
Another thing about having soulmates is you had the ability to see what they wrote in their skin because it would show up on yours. This ability happened also on your sixteenth birthday. You were so confused when you saw something on your arm that wasn’t there seconds ago. When you tried to wipe it off, it didn't even smudge. You told your parents about this and they even said it was rare for something like this to happen. They have only known two couples that had that side of the soulmate ability.
The thing that was written on your skin was a small star on the back of your hand. You were confused but it was cute at the same time. You looked at it all night long while you lied in bed as your birthday came to an end. The next thing to show up on your skin were the words “I will find you, I will find both of you, I promise”. You watched as the letters of their handwriting showed up for a response. “I know, we just need time”. You thought about responding, but you just stayed in your seat, in class, watching the handwriting slowly disappear over the next two days.
You slowly figured out that there were some things the universe was not willing to let you write on your skin: your names, your locations, what you looked like and their information. It was like blind dating and literally being blind. You thought it was the universe’s way of making sure you knew the person based on their personality by the little messages they write on their skin instead of their looks. You always believed that looks were always a bonus to a person.

As time went on and you got into college you were finally able to know the age and names of your soulmates: 24, Carol Danvers and 23, Natasha Romanoff. You join in and write your own name and age: 22, y/f/n y/l/n. You thought it was funny to have the three of you all be a year apart. You asked one question after your names were written down: did the ache get worse when I came of age or was it always bad? There was a thought that because you were all different ages that Carol would have felt one ache at first and then when you came of age she would have felt it get worse. But their responses were all the same: the ache was always there and it will be until we are all together .
The last response had you wondering what it was like to not feel that ache anymore. Maybe it was like having something you never knew you needed, kind of like a drug. But this is stronger than any addiction you could ever think of. There was some thought in your head that you knew it would feel like you could finally be at ease with yourself because you were with your soulmates. You’ve only ever thought about what it would be like to not have the ache in your chest anymore, to finally be able to sleep peacefully. Some nights your chest would hurt more than others and it pained you to know that they were thinking about you.
That’s what happened when they thought about you, or at least that’s what it felt like. You’ve asked them before to verify that it was them and not your body about to give out on you now. Sometimes while you were in class you had to lean over and clench your chest because of how unbearable the pain was. You could only think of what was happening. There were so many times where that’s all you felt: the ache in your chest hasn’t gone away since your sixteenth birthday. But you have to wait, you’ve always waited for it to stop. Little did you know that the ache would finally settle and you could finally be at ease.

There was a festival and concert happening outside of your apartment that faced out to Central Park. You loved the view you woke up to every morning, but you knew there was a better one. For some reason today, there wasn’t so much pain in your chest. It felt lighter, making you feel lighter. Automatically you knew your day was going to be better for some reason and you might finally find either Carol or Natasha today. It was a small fragmentation to what you really had in store for today.
Even with how many people were in Central Park you still made it through in one piece and made your way to work. After graduating from college you managed to become the CEO of one of the best technological companies. You might not have created the motherboard yourself, but you were the one to advertise it and sell it; of course this was all with the creator’s permission. You even shared some of the profits. You tried to off more, but they refused and were content with the amount they asked for.
As the CEO of Anima (soul in Italian) you were always dealing with business men, emails and other little tasks that you really didn’t mind. It was nice to slow down a little bit at a time, at least that’s what you thought. But other than that your days typically go by quickly with the amount of, well everything, you have to do. Typically at the end of your day you’re tired and you want to sleep everything off, but you know that won’t be possible for a while. So, you thought about going to that festival/concert, it’s been a while since you last went out like that. The last time was four years ago when you were in college.
“Hey, Sarah, can you cover the rest of the papers for me?” you asked your assistant as you walked out of your office and headed for home to unwind with some old habits.
You were dressed in cargo pants, doc martens, and a crop top hoodie. You looked different from the business woman who walked out of the same apartment this morning. You missed acting like a kid.

The park was so lively you knew something was bound to happen tonight.
You made your way to the crowd that was around the stage of where a band was playing. You weren’t sure who it was but that had a good base in the song they were currently playing. The music was so loud you could feel the beat in your chest. Wait?! Your hand went over your chest and tried to feel for something, anything, but there was nothing to feel. The ache that has been in your chest for the last ten years is finally gone. You looked around to see if anyone was having the same reaction you were. You probably looked like you were looking for your kid lost in the crowd, but you were really looking for your soulmates in the sea of people.
You kept looking and wandering as the ache stayed away. You were so happy it was finally gone, but a different feeling was starting to take over. It was like you were having a separation anxiety attack. The concern and uneasiness you were feeling wasn’t something you thought you would feel right after the ache left your body.
“Where the hell are you?” You turn in circles and circles when you happen to run into someone. You pardon yourself and stand still to just feel anything and everything. When you turned around you locked eyes with one of your soulmates.
Her beautiful green eyes, her fiery red hair, her curves, her posture, her everything was like nothing you ever thought she would look like. It felt like you were on cloud nine, the highest you've ever been. You’ve heard about how people met and what it was like seeing them for the first time, but you never thought it would feel like this. You never thought it would feel like you were drunk on their image or their smile or them.
When you took your first two steps toward her, the other soulmate came stumbling from the crowd. She was already perfect in how she almost fell from being pushed over, by a friend you’d assume. When she locked eyes with the other woman, she stopped moving and took a minute to take in her image. When she looked at you, it was like she was doing the process all over again. Her own curves were perfectly shaped with her toned muscles as well. Her blonde hair was cut short to make a smooth wave as she combed her fingers through her hair. It was just like the other one, her eyes were the perfect combination of brown and green, making a hazel color, it was almost gold. The way she looked confused as to what was happening made you smile. But as the realization washed over her face, the three of you walked closer together and hugged each other. You all leaned your head into each other’s.
“I was wondering why I couldn’t feel anything in my chest.” The three of you laughed as the blonde spoke.
“I can’t believe this is happening.” You spoke up and looked at their faces. They were even more beautiful up closer. “I’m y/n.” You introduce yourself and look at them with full content.
“Me neither, I thought this day would come later down the line. But I just can’t believe that this is happening, nor would it feel like this. I thought it would feel like any other meeting with a person. But this was the best feeling I have ever had. I’m Natasha.” The redhead said, which left the blonde to be Carol. Just judging by the way she stumbled into this made you realize that she would be the one to always have her head in the clouds or even farther out in space. You and Natasha would be the ones to ground her and bring her back.
“I love you both so much. I know that I’ve said it on our skin message thingy system we had, but I wanted to say it in person for the longest time. And now we have forever with each other.” You two laugh as she smiles and leans her head in as you all take a minute to realize that you are home, the piece of your heart that has been missing for ten years is finally filled.
