“KILL IT! KILL IT KILL IT KILL IT KILL IT!”
The “it” that Emilie was screeching oh so heavily over was a large wolf spider that managed to worm itself into the kitchen through the open window. Nathalie squinted at her while Gabriel grimaced. He was unsettled too, but not to this extent, at least he could hide his disgust.
“You want me to kill the spider? Really?” There was a deadpan to her voice as she looked at it crawl. It didn’t seem to be very afraid at all, and wolf spiders were typically shy. Maybe it was just looking for a way out.
“YES!” Emilie screeched. “I DON’T WANT IT TO BITE ME! IT’S HUGE! I COULD DIE FROM THE POISON, NATHALIE, PLEASE DON’T LET IT GET ME!”
Nathalie could only cross her arms as Emilie made herself look more dramatic than normal. Come on. She was, what, a year older and afraid of a little spider? Nineteen? Nathalie rolled her eyes.
“I think I agree with Emilie. I… don’t want its… I don’t want it to bite me either, and if I stomped on it, the guts would get everywhere.”
“Its guts would get everywhere if I stomped it too.” She grumbled. “But fine, I’ll get rid of it.”
Rather than killing it like Emilie wanted, Nathalie crawled on all fours and extended her hand out to let the spider crawl. It zipped away at first. Emilie could only screech when it crawled on Nathalie’s hand. Gabriel watched in awe. How was she not scared? Then a smirk drew itself on Nathalie’s face.
“You wouldn’t hurt anyone, would you, little one? Well, how about you make a new friend?” Then she started approaching Emilie with the spider, and she fell off the table, running from the arachnid.
“NATHALIE SANCOUER, I WILL KILL YOU IF YOU BRING THAT SPIDER NEAR ME AGAIN!!”
“Oh, calm down, all it wants is to go outside.” She had her fun. Nathalie walked to the window and released the spider on the railing of the fire escape. Gabriel blinked at the curious event that just unfolded. Once it was all said and done, Emilie walked back in the room, crying, from both the spider and her hurt knee.
“I hate spiders…”
“How did it not bite you?” Was all Gabriel could ask when Nathalie sat down at the table. She opened a can of sparkling water and took a sip.
“I’ve held a spider before. Long story.”
“Would you care to tell me, then?” He asked. Nathalie could see Emilie still shaking from the event that happened. She sighed.
“Maybe later. I don’t think she wants to hear about spiders for a while.”
