Work Text:

*Ding Dong*

Frank sighed. There was a reason he hadn’t put his porch light on. He had no desire to see kids tonight. It just made him miss the girls. Yes, they talked a few times a week, but it wasn’t the same as actually hugging them. He may not have been the best husband, but he loved his daughters more than anything.

*Ding Dong*

He was just going to ignore it. If they didn’t get the hint, it wasn’t his fault.

*Knock* *Knock* *Knock*

Frank finally stood up. He couldn’t figure out what they weren’t understanding. He walked over to the door and yanked it open. “What?” He froze when he saw the tiny witch standing in front of him.

The little girl smiled. “Hi Daddy! Trick or treat?”

Tears stung Frank’s eyes as he knelt down. “Well, Linda June, I have to say, it looks like I got a treat.” He kissed the little girl’s nose. “Where are your sisters?”

“In the car with Sam.”

Frank raised an eyebrow. “With Sam?”

Linda nodded. “He came and got us at the airport.”

Frank stood up and took Linda’s hand. “Well, let’s go see them.” He smiled down at his little girl. “You have no idea how happy I am that you are here.”

Linda leaned into her father. “I miss you.”

“I miss you too. More than anything.”

“You should come home.”

Frank smiled at his littlest girl. “I could, but I really like my job here and I really like living close to my best friend.”

“Mom said that you and Sam are dating.”

“She did?”

Linda nodded. “Yes. She said that you are in love and that we shouldn’t say anything about it… oops.”

Frank laughed. “It’s okay. You never did like secrets.” They stopped at the end of the driveway and Frank smiled at the two girls that were standing outside of the car. “Susan, Barbara, you have no idea how happy I am to see you right now.”

Susan smiled at her father and ran to him, hugging him. “Dad. I have missed you so much.”

Frank kissed the top of her head. “I have missed you too.” He looked over at Barbara. “You have grown up so much in the last year.”

“Yeah.”

Frank looked at his oldest daughter and took a deep breath. He could tell she was trying hard not to cry. He pulled away from Susan and stretched his arms out. “Come here.” Barbara ran to her father and held him tight as she started crying. Frank held her close and kissed the top of her head. “Shhh. It’s okay. I’m right here.”

“I didn’t think I would ever get to see you again.”

“I know. It has been a rough year, but I will never ever go that long without seeing you ever again.”

Barbara nodded. “I know. Sam promised we would get to see each other every month.”

Frank looked over at his partner and friend. “Every month huh?”

Sam shrugged. “I will make sure of it.”

Susan smiled up at her father. “He also said we get to go trick or treating this weekend!”

“He did?”

Susan nodded. “Yes! He said he knows where the best candy is.”

“I am sure he does. Now, have you had dinner yet?”

“No. “Well, let’s get inside and I will make something. How does that sound?”

“That sounds good.”

“I’m glad.” Frank followed his daughters back up the path and then looked over his shoulder. “Aren’t you coming?”

“I wouldn’t want to intrude.”

Frank sighed. “You told Louise about us?”

“She had to know she could trust me.”

“You said we love each other.”

Sam swallowed. “Was I not supposed to?”

Frank smiled again. “You are with the CIA, your job is to report the truth.” Frank leaned forward and kissed Sam lighty. “Happy Halloween. And thank you for the treat.” He leaned forward and let his lips brush Sam’s ear. “I’ll have to give you your treat a little later.”

Just as Sam was about to respond, Linda’s head peeked out from behind the door. “Daddy! Are you coming?”

Frank laughed. “Yes Linda June, I’m coming.” Frank squeezed Sam’s hand as he pulled away from him. “I love you.”

Sam smiled back. “I love you too.”
