Chapter Text
Chapter 1: A Turn of Events
SMALL NOTE (I was too lazy to write this into the actual chapter): Up to this point, the story has played out exactly as it did in the game with the exception of the previous night when Tenko, Shuichi, and Maki went up to confront Angie. They did NOT encounter Himiko. Shuichi and Maki went down early while Tenko stayed up to try and convince Angie.
OTHER SMALL NOTE: The first two chapters switch between present/past tense a lot (my bad). Disregard this.
Shuichi wakes up.
*DING DONG, DING DONG*
“Huh?” Shuichi thinks. Who could be at the intercom this early in the morning?
“What’s with that face…? You look like you just woke up.” Maki says.
“…I *did* just wake up. The announcement was just a minute ago.” Shuichi responds.
“You wake up to *that*? If you rely on that announcement as your alarm clock, you’ll start
getting used to this place.” Maki says.
“Well, I suppose that’s true…” Shuichi says.
“It’s fine. Let’s just go stop the ritual.” Kaito says suddenly.
“K-Kaito?” Shuichi didn’t see nor expect him.
“I heard from Maki Roll. It seems Angie’s gonna do the ritual.” Kaito explains.
“Maki Roll…? Don’t give me such a weird nickname.” Maki says.
“You brought Kaito here, Maki?” Shuichi asks, still confused.
“…Is that weird? We need a backup plan in case the straightforward approach fails. Who better
than Kaito for a…less than straightforward approach?” Maki answers.
“But, Kaito…are you feeling okay?” Shuichi asks.
“Heh, we don’t have time to be worrying about me. We gotta put a stop to this ridiculous ‘
’ crap. And then… we can finally drop that topic. Or else…I’m not gonna
last.”
Shuichi found the wording there odd. “Not gonna last”? Could Kaito be…
“Scared?” Shuichi says.
“Huh?” Kaito is surprised.
“Ah, it’s just that I remember that you don’t like talking about ghosts and stuff. Now that I think
about it, you’ve been acting strange ever since we started talking about… resurrecting the
dead” Shuichi says.
“D-D-Don’t be stupid! There’s no way!” Kaito retorts.
“Ah, so I was right.” Shuichi says.
“Wait… You mean the reason you didn’t come to training is because you were scared?” Maki
asks.
“I-It’s not that I’m scared… That’s just how my body is. I’m fine when it comes to cramped areas,
space, and zero gravity, but…ghost stories… Since I was a kid, whenever I hear them… I start to
feel sick… Because of that, I haven’t been able to eat or sleep since all this started.” Kaito says,
looking paler by the minute.
“So that’s what happened.” Shuichi says.
“So…let’s hurry and stop Angie, so we can put an end to all this spooky stuff! If things get any
scarier, I’ll seriously die from a heart attack!”
Maki gave Kaito a killing glare.
“Why are you looking at me like that?” Kaito asks.
“Unbelievable… You always act like you’re not afraid of anything.” Maki retorts.
Kaito grew impatient. “S-Shut up! Let’s just go stop Angie already! C’mon, bro! C’mon, Maki Roll!
Hurry up!” he says.
“Seriously, don’t call me Maki Roll.” says Maki, despite Kaito’s stubbornness.
“A-Anyway…let’s go to Angie’s lab.” says Shuichi, hoping to get on with things
They come across someone next to the door to Angie’s lab.
“Nyeeh? What are you guys doing here?” Himiko says.
“Ah, Himiko… We were just checking on the status of the ritual. Are you guarding the door?”
Shuichi asks.
“I wouldn’t do something like that, it’s a pain… I came to do the same thing you guys were doing,
but couldn’t get in for some reason.” Himiko says. “She normally opens the door to anyone
who’s in the student council, but I’ve been here since the Monokuma announcement and she
so much as responded. She must be really into her work.”
Shuichi found that odd. She responded to Tenko last night. Maybe she wasn’t there?
“Maybe she isn’t in there?” Shuichi asks, hoping that the worst hasn’t happened.
“She should be inside… Both this door and the back one are locked.” Himiko responds.
Himiko was right, both doors were locked, but the doors only lock from the inside. Something
was wrong.
“Maybe she’s sleeping?” Himiko suggests.
“Himiko! Let us in now!” Shuichi demands.
Himiko looked increasingly worried. “Nyeh? Why?”
“But we can’t get in.” Kaito says. “Both doors are locked.”
“Maybe you can!” Kokichi suddenly appears. “I’ve been listening to you guys, and I’m just as
shocked!”
“Where did you come from?” Maki asks.
“A little birdie told me that now would be a good time to bust out my trick.” Kokichi says.
Kokichi’s trick…
“Ah, lock picking!” Shuichi says.
“Lock picking?” Kaito is shocked.
“Yeah. During the insect meet and greet, he was able to get into all of our rooms by picking the
locks on the doors.” Shuichi responds.
“Can you use your lock picking to get us into the lab?” Kaito asks Kokichi.
“…You want me to pick open this door, huh? Hmm, lemme see…” Kokichi says, peeking into the
keyhole. “Ah, it’s a cylinder lock! These types are perfect for lock picking.
Shuichi was getting desperate. “Please, Kokichi! Open the lock!”
“It’s rude to pick a lock without permission.” Himiko was having none of this.
“Now’s not the time! Something might have happened to Angie!” It was unpleasant, but it was
what he thought. Shuichi needed to get in now.
“Open the door now Kokichi!” Kaito demands.
“Sorry, Himiko! I’m only doing this because these three are threatening me.” Kokichi says,
despite Maki’s silence.
In a matter of seconds, the lock was picked.
“Open sesame!” Kokichi says.
“No, don’t go in there!” Himiko was using her body as a shield to prevent anyone from entering
the lab.
“Move it!” Kaito says before pushing Himiko away. She falls on the ground next to the door.
Kokichi was standing on the opposite side of the doorway that Himiko was on. He holds his
arms out, opens, and presents the open door.
“Welcome to the Ultimate A-“ Kokichi was cut short.
*DING DONG, DONG DING*
The light from the lab was almost blinding with how dark the corridors were. Nobody got a
chance to see what was going on before that horrifying alarm sounded.
“A-BODY-HAS-BEEN-DISCOVERED. EVERYONE, PLEASE-ASSEMBLE-AT-THE-ULTIMATE-ARTLAB.” Monodam’s monotone voice shook Shuichi to his core.
“BLGHLGBHGLBHGLHGGBGLBHGafomf……….” Shuichi had tuned everything out. He could barely hear
the body discovery announcement or the screams over his own thoughts. He saw what he
feared the most.
Angie Yonaga lay lifeless on the art room floor.
