Work Text:

'I don't want to go. I'm too tired.'

As much as he hates going out, Tamaki cannot refuse. They are the only friends he's had since high school. He never bothered talking to his schoolmates, and as a consequence, nobody approached him if it's not about school activities. He's also planned his schedule in college to be in 4 periods of classes where there are fewer students. The only person, other than Nejire and Mirio, who talked to him in high school has been gone for over a decade now.

She's also reserved like him, but she's approachable due to her charismatic and confident nature. The way she talks, it's as if she's rehearsed it many times and the words are just falling out of her mouth. Whenever she makes a mistake, she laughs it off and never lets it ruin her day.

She's sat in the front across his desk. She'd always have her white hair down and cover her shoulders on a cold day, then tied up in a high ponytail during hot days. Her purple eyes that shone like amethyst stones under the fluorescent lights always catches his attention, but he never dared to stare too long or else Nejire would notice. Jeez, thinking about her like that feels a little creepy.

Of course, the one and only time they talked, he will never forget.

"Hello, I'm Yugami Fuyuki. What's your name?" She unexpectedly approached him, startling the boy from his little daydream.

Tamaki can't even look at her in the eyes, he just resigned himself to looking at her ID, where he noticed stars and rainbow stickers decorate the borders of the ID case.

"...Hello, I'm Amajiki Tamaki."

"I noticed you haven't talked to anyone since the start of the school year, so I wanna be your friend! Of course, you can say no, I don't mind and I won't take offense."

"...Let me think about it." He whispered, and deeply regretted not answering her when he was given that chance.

Tamaki awoke to a huge cloud of smoke and a sea of flames. His door was knocked down by a firefighter and helped him evacuate the building. He was brought to where the rescued students are at, most of them hanged onto oxygen masks and the rest comforting the same people. Nejire and Mirio ran up to him, bombarding him with questions about if he's alright, if anything hurts, and assurances that they're gonna be alright.

"Excuse me, sir." Mirio tugged the sleeve of a nearby firefighter, "What happened?"

"Not now kid, we're still missing a student. Her name's Yugami, girl with white hair."

Morning came, and the last embers of fire were put out. Hours later, Mirio and Nejire told Tamaki what came up from the investigation. Apparently, the fire originated from Yugami's dorm room. Her remains were never found. They say she was probably kidnapped because her windows are broken from the outside.

'No reason to mull it over now, I'd still be sad whether I accepted her to be my friend or not.'

5 minutes of waiting, he finally replied.

"Sure, what's the address?"
