“Aww Jim, just look at her! She is so full of milk that she can’t roll over!” Freddie exclaimed as he saw the tiny white kitten laying on her back on a baby blanket, with her pink paws in the air. She was kicking her little legs and trying to turn to the side, but her huge avocado belly, full of warm milk, did not let her roll over.
“She’ll soon exhaust herself, this little darling, and fall back to sleep,” Jim said, gently rubbing the tender skin of the kitten’s belly with the pads of his fingers.
“She is so adorable, our daughter. You are, aren’t you? You are the cutest baby in the whole world, you are,” Freddie cooed as Lily purred while sucking on her toe beans.
Freddie and Jim were so mesmerised by the newest addition to their family that they did not notice a certain tortoiseshell in the room.
Delilah approached Freddie, and meowed loudly, rubbing herself against his leg. “Oh my princess, come look at your baby sister! Isn’t she the cutest?” Freddie said, picking Delilah up so that she could see Lily, who was still licking her paws. “Look Jim, she’s staring at Lily so intently. They’ll be the best of friends!”
Jim chuckled at his husband’s excitement. “I don’t think she’s too happy with this new arrangement, Freddie.”
“Oh nonsense, darling. Our children will get along very well. We, as fathers, will ensure that,” Freddie said, curling his left arm around Delilah, and stroking Lily’s head with his right hand.
Jim wrapped his own arm around Freddie’s waist, and kissed the side of his head. “That we will.” He gently picked Lily up, whose eyes had begun to droop, along with her blanket.
“Have a good sleep, my baby. You have a very interesting life ahead of you.”
