Work Text:

Like most days the library was quiet, not even the occasional sound of someone scribbling with a quill could be heard. It was perfect. Humming a faint song, Y/N runs her fingers across the spines of old leather books, letting her fingers snag on one she finds interesting.

Sliding it off the shelf, Y/N holds it close to her chest and starts to head for a specific corner where she may or may not have moved a table to. Her long dress swishes against her legs as she hurries to her secret corner, immediately coming to a halt when she sees a dark-haired dwarf sitting in of the two chairs.

Ignoring the dwarf, Y/N slides into the other seat, directly facing the dwarf. Silently, she opens the book and lets out a content sigh when the smell of old paper finally hits her. Gluing her eyes to the book, she starts to skim the first chapter. It was a very old book, one that she has read many times and will continue to do so.

Even though Y/N tells herself not to get distracted, she finds herself skimming a few sentences, even skipping some, but worst of all she finds herself paying attention to every little noise the other makes.

The little hum of concentration they would make after they turn a page, the nearly quiet way their fingers would gently slide against the page.

Y/N takes a small second to glance up at the dwarf in front of her, seeing a small smile on his face, one of which isn't produced by a book. But Y/N just returns to her book, still skimming the pages in the near silence, until she feels something brush against her foot.

A smile graces her lips as she pushes back against it, Y/N's eyes still glued to the book as she slowly presses against his foot, trying to make it seem as if she is completely unaware of what's going on under the table until she feels the tip of a boot brush against her thigh.

Biting her cheek, she decides to cut whatever they were doing short by closing the book and standing up, letting her chair scrape against the stone floor as loudly as possible, and standing to her feet.

With her head held high, Y/N once again hugs the book close to her chest as she remembers where exactly she found the book from, letting the swishing noise of her dress distract her from the obvious sound of footsteps behind her.

Y/N finds the empty slot in the sturdy stone bookshelf where her book will neatly fit, as she slides the book into its spot, she can feel someone behind her move her long hair from her neck.

His soft lips meet the back of her neck, Y/N lets out a soft sigh before turning around to face him. "Do you truly plan on taking me here?" A smile flutters onto Y/N's face as she whispers, watching his face grow a light shade of red.

"Perhaps," he hums. "If you would allow it?" He moves in between her legs to press against her chest.

"Maybe I will," she tilts her head up to capture his lips, but out of the corner of her eye, she spots someone approaching them.

"Kili, Y/N," a very angry dwarf whisper yells at them, making Kili jump off of Y/N with a squeak. "This is the third time we've caught you two...umm..."

"Flirting?" Kili suggests, his whole face turning a darker shade of red.

"Wasn't flirting," Y/N scoffs.

"Either way," the other dwarf says. "We gave you a warning the first time when you two were caught on the bookshelf, and another one down at that table-"

Now it's Y/N's turn to be as red as a tomato. Of course, they would know someone had dragged a whole table from the sitting area, they would be kind of stupid not to notice.

"-but know I must call your uncle since you clearly don't care to listen to the librarians."

Kili's eyes widen at the mention of his uncle, the king. Grabbing Y/N's wrist, he yells "RUN!" before taking off with her around the bookshelf, leaving the poor librarian stunned. When they reach the entrance/exit to the Library, Kili lets go of Y/N's wrist and holds the door open for her, letting her bolt down the large hallway with the ends of her dress in her hands.

Y/N suppresses a giggle as she hears Kili telling her to keep going. Leading the way down the long hallway, she knows exactly where to go, letting her feet lead her and Kili's way, Y/N nearly falls after making a sharp turn towards the rooms the Court stays in.

Letting her dress fall to her ankles, Y/N reaches the most familiar door and pushes it open, her lungs burn when she enters the cool room. Knowing that Kili is almost right behind her, Y/N snags a few nearly stale buns from earlier and skips towards their bedroom, letting out the echoing laugh she has been containing.

Hearing Kili closing the door to their chambers, Y/N throws herself onto the large soft bed, setting the buns down beside her. Frantically, Kili jogs up to their bedroom door, pausing to look over Y/N's form.

"I think I heard someone or something pass our door," he says, walking to his side of the bed, but not before kicking his boots off.

"Better get under the covers then!" Y/N grins, sliding off their bed to pull back their thick covers, but not before grabbing the buns. Sitting on the mattress, Kili throws the blankets over them and they get surrounded by darkness.

The only sound that Y/N can hear is the slowing sound of her and Kili's breath. Taking one of the slightly stale buns in hand, Y/N tears a small piece of it and offers it to Kili, even in the near-total darkness, she knows how red Kili's face must be from this.

A loud sound breaches their safety blank and Y/N lets out a small squeak. "What do you think that was," she whispers, a small grin growing on her face.

"Maybe it was a wolf!" Y/N lets out a small laugh, knowing full well that wolves don't typically live this far, but some dwarves in Erebor sometimes keep guard dogs.

"Or a ghost?"

"Mmmmm-maybe," Kili hums. "But let's stay here and not risk it. How many buns do you have?"

"Enough to last five minutes," Y/N says, looking down at her lap.

"That should give plenty of time for that...beast to pass."

"Or enough time for me to grab the rest of the plate from the common room."

"Even more reasons to stay here with you."
