Chapter Text
Carleen POV
When was it that she changed. When was it we stopped exchanging diaries, when she stopped showing me her kind smile, when she came home looking like she was about to cry. When was it.
...
I caught a glimpse of her again for the first time in years after boarding the Colossus. The structure was a pure white mass flying endlessly through the sky, free to go wherever it pleased just like it’s owner the Caelestite. I was envious of them in a way, however still believed we were all too similar. Aimlessly walking through the colossus, I saw her sitting in the silence of the cafe. Her long silky white hair still swayed in the wind, her smile had faded but I’m sure it was still there.
At first, I thought it was a dream, an endlessly realistic dream, one where I could see my sister once more. I could feel my vision blurring from tears… tears… When was the last time I had cried, I couldn’t recall, however, I quickly quelled them back into place and I looked towards her with newfound determination.
I tried to reach out to her
“Mia.”
I saw her jump a bit in her seat, startled by my call. She turned around and went wide-eyed, once she recognized me, I could see the panic welling up in her pupils, and then… I saw the largest smile she had ever made, she got off her seat and walked towards me.
“Oh! Hello Carleen it’s been a while hasn’t it?”
I immediately felt something was different...wrong, Mia wasn’t like this.. She was always poised and the essence of elegance. Her smile was a bit too wide, perhaps her pupils too dilated, this wasn’t my sister.
“Who are you.” I asked with slight aggression in my voice
“Oh? But I’m your sister Mia, who else could I be?”
Her face contorted into confusion but I could sense the sly amusement behind that facade. She walked a step closer to me
“You’ve grown so big Carleen, before you were just a scared little child unable to confront your place in Lumopolis” She smiled as she said it
“Are you still chained to that responsibility, wings cut off in the city of angels?” she said as she showed a face of sarcastic concern. I knew better than to respond to her taunting
“I see talking to you further will be a waste of time” I retorted,
I looked back at her and what I found were round apologetic eyes looking into mine. The sarcastic smile had been wiped off her face, and the only thing that remained was a woman looking as if she would cry.
“I-I’m sorry Carleen.” That was all she said before she left in a rush out of the cafe. I tried to chase after her but when I left the room the corridors were empty. Mia was nowhere to be seen.
