How 4-1 Should Have Gone

Summary:

Instead of using the bloody ace to get Kristoph found guilty, Apollo uses it to get Phoenix found guilty. After all, if he were innocent, there would be no reason for Phoenix to make forged evidence.

Notes:

I'm sure you can tell by this fic alone that I hate Phoenix.

Work Text:

Apollo looked down at the card the young girl had handed him. There was no way this would be allowed as evidence. This was Phoenix Wright's daughter after all. She would do anything to help her dad get out of a jail sentence, but he doubted a child would be able to forge evidence, so his trail of logic went back to Phoenix. He was the only one who could have done it. He knew Phoenix would want him to bring it up, and he would, but not the way Phoenix thought he would. Turn the tables on the man. That was something Kristoph had taught him when he first started to work for him.

When he retook his spot at the defense's bench, he smirked. Phoenix retook his position at the witness stand, giving Apollo a slight nod. He had no idea what Apollo had planned. Everything was going just the way Phoenix had wanted it to, at least, until he asked Apollo how Kristoph could have killed Shadi Smith.

Apollo laughed. "Well, I WOULD show you the bloody ace that you forged and gave your CHILD to give to me, but... ya know, YOU forged it." He turned around. "The 'blood' on that card is just painted onto it. A child could figure it out. In fact, I'm sure Trucy did. I bet she also figured out that the necklace your wearing; is stolen from the victim."

Phoenix started to growl at him. What was he doing? This wasn't how the case was supposed to go. "Do you really think I wouldn't recognize the defendant in your LAST case that was connected to your DISSBARMENT? I could tell from just one of Olga's photos that Shadi Smith was Zak Gramarye. Everyone who's ever even just seen a picture of the troupe would recognize that the picture in Phoenix Wright's locket is a young picture of Trucy Enigmar that Zak took before he disappeared seven years ago." Kristoph smirked from his seat in the defendant's box. He had trained Apollo well.

Phoenix popped open his locket, and sure enough, there it was, a picture of Trucy that Zak had taken of her. Apollo bashed his fists against the bench. "As you can see, your honor, there was no way that Kristoph Gavin could have killed Shadi Smith. Phoenix Wright had a clear motive for killing the victim; because of him, Phoenix was disbarred." Apollo suddenly felt a power rush over him. Was this what Kristoph felt every time he caught a witness in a lie? If so, he understood why Kristoph became a lawyer. The rush you got from the power you had over them. It was intoxicating.

The judge gave his head a slight nod and closed his eyes, thinking it over. There was only one thing that had been bothering him. "Then why would he forge evidence seven years ago?"

Apollo had already thought of an answer for this. "That was so he could win the case with no problems, but he didn't expect for someone to catch on and tell someone else that forged evidence was going to be used in the case. Shortly after the case had finished, Phoenix had gone to visit the Mishams. Why? Because he wanted to keep an eye on them, in case Drew had planned on double-crossing him. Phoenix has connections to mobs and assassins; he could easily have Drew taken out if need be." Apollo tried to keep his composure, but he was too mad at his childhood hero to keep himself together.

The judge opened his eyes and banged down his gavel as the bailiff brought Kristoph to the witness stand. "This court finds the defendant, Kristoph Gavin, not guilty. Phoenix Wright's next court date will be a week from now." Apollo looked over at Kristoph; he was giving that classic Kristoph Gavin smile. Apollo gave him the best one he could muster.

All he had left to look up to in law was Kristoph, and he would protect him from any accusation, no matter who it was from.
