Work Text:
“Katou?”
It was still seven in the morning, but Iwaki Kyousuke could already feel dread settling on his stomach, something he had never felt this badly, not even when the DNA test proved Murai Shou to be his son back then. Iwaki taps on his husband’s cheek urgently, forcing himself to not lose control of his thoughts. He can still feel the other man’s breath, that’s good , and leans over to pick up his phone not far from where he’s standing now.
“Katou, please…”
The older actor slumps beside the bed where Katou still sleeps , his energy leaving him the instant he called for an ambulance. His hand has never let go of his husband’s hand, that’s growing worryingly colder as the clock is ticking.
(He doesn’t have a chance to glance at the clock when the ambulance comes and brings the two of them to the hospital.)

When he woke up, all Katou Youji could see was white. The blond actor squints, blinded by the sheer whiteness of the room. It took him a while before he gasps, realizing he is not in his shared bedroom with his beloved Iwaki- san . He quickly tries to get up, realizing lately of the weight on his left arm. Katou held his breath when their eyes met.
(He could clearly see the flooding relief in those black eyes, and Katou desperately wants to embrace the older man.)
“Are you alright? Does it hurt anywhere?” Iwaki grips the younger man’s shoulders firmly but gently, worry could be seen in his eyes. Katou stills in silence hearing the desperation in the older actor’s voice, and he reaches out to caress Iwaki’s cheek.
“I’m… fine. Just a bit dizzy.”
Iwaki seems like he wants to say something after that, but Katou cuts him off.
“What happened?”
The older man flinches at the words. (It pains Katou to see his husband like this, when the sight of the usually calm and collected Iwaki Kyousuke changed to something akin to grief.)
“You didn’t wake up even after I called out for you, so I--” Iwaki doesn’t dare to continue his words after that, the hand still holding Katou’s own tightening. Both of them know Iwaki’s hand is trembling, and yet no one says anything, for neither of them wants to be the one breaking off the looming tension in the room.
“I promise I’m okay now, Iwaki- san. I’m sorry I made you worry.” The blond actor hopes the gentle squeeze on Iwaki’s hand could convey his feelings better than any words could offer. Katou brings his husband’s hand closer to him, and kisses the back of it gently, longingly.
It’s not even been that long since they last met, but the older actor felt like he had gotten thinner. Katou hates to think that it happened because of him. But he has a more urgent matter at hand, quite literally too, because he knows Iwaki isn’t convinced yet. So he decides to drop any sweet words he could use, and instead plants a kiss on Iwaki’s lips, deep and slow.
“I’ll be back on my feet again in no time, until we can see the sakura blossoming in our home, yeah?”
The words are whispered in the quiet hospital room, his lips brushing against Iwaki’s in such an intimate manner that only his beloved husband could receive.
“Mm. Yeah, I’ll be waiting.”
At that response, Katou smiles and kisses his husband once more.
