‘Why won’t you let me be me.’

Summary:

Poem from last year during some heavy meditation.

Work Text:

Rejected at a young age
Sought to be too violent
At age 3

“You’re kid needs help.”
They said
“Here’s a pill to calm them down.”
As they handed the meds to mum

She seemed thankful for the help
Gripping my arm tightly as we headed out
“I can finally have an obedient child.”
She grinned

I guess climbing on tables, and learning to find my voice at a young age
Was considered too much
Too young to experience real emotions
And let them run free

You have to put a spell
And leash a dog
To be obedient in your eyes

I’ve learned to recoil
29 years later
The pent up emotions
Wild energy that screams
‘Come out and play’

“Take your meds.”
They said
“You’ll feel better.”
They lied

What’s wrong with feeling emotional?
From expressing from your soul?

“Stop crying, big girls don’t cry.”
No,
For your information, I’m a guy
“You’re too angry, calm down.”
No
“You’re too hyper, calm down.”
No!

Why?
Why is it wrong?
To be me?

I have to wait till the house is silent
To release my real persona
No masking needed
No filter needed
A real adrenaline rush

“Drink your tea.”
No
You require me to be too civilized

That kid wasn’t afraid to be themselves
Drugs had that effect
Brought real fear to their eyes
They couldn’t be them

It was sought too much
Too much for society to handle

Silence
Complete silence in a world gone mad
Was required to break through
To experience truth

I’m aware of the lingering effect meds have
Yet it’s an on going daily requirement
Learned at a young age

Hard to break free from

It’s wrong to suppress emotions
It’s wrong to filter
To cage yourself
Out of fear
Of further rejection

Let them reject you
If they can’t be bothered to let you be yourself

It’s worse to filter how you are as a persona
To fit in
To let others win

Don’t be afraid
Silence has woken you
Breathe

Be that wild child from age 3
Standing up on a table
Screaming
Finding their emotions
Their potential
Before suppressing emotions
Was the only way
To live

Run a marathon around your house if you need to
No one’s telling you no
Turn up the stereo to 11
Let your voice be heard

Be yourself
No filtering
No suppression

Only release...
