The Demon in the Attic: Dragon, not Lamb

Obey me was supposed to just be a game. Turns out it wasn't. It was a test.

A test you passed. And now you're headed to the devildom. For real this time.

Chapter 1: Lilith's Prologue: Before the Devildom

Summary:

(This is an explanation of the idea behind the work)

MC has no idea that downloading an otome game on their phone makes them a candidate for an exchange program, at least according to Lilith. They play the game, thinking nothing of it. Until they find out it's all real.

Years earlier, while watching over her brothers, Lilith discovers Diavolo’s plans to bring exchange students to the Devildom. She’s thrilled by this opportunity she has to send someone to fix the family she accidentally broke all those years ago. Working with some of her descendants, she creates the game Obey Me to look for the perfect candidate, eventually choosing MC. They’re sweet, fun, rules oriented enough to survive, and smart. Lilith thinks they’re the perfect candidate.

However, the perfect little lamb Lilith thinks she found turns out to be more of a very innocent looking dragon. They’re the things she thought, true, but they’re also sassy, stubborn, clever, and way too curious for their own good. Worst of all, they won’t back down when they think they’re right. Not even to Lucifer or Diavolo. Or her, for that matter.
Things are definitely not going how she predicted.

(GN reader insert,1st person)

Notes:

Reading the prologue is optional, but if you do I hope you enjoy it! It just sets up the story. However, our demon bois don't show up until chapter 1, so I do understand if you skip it lol.

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

There is a flash of light, then terrible, agonizing pain. What’s happening? My frantic mind tries to piece things together but I honestly have no idea.

“MC. MC!” a voice I don’t recognize calls. Yet, somehow, the light, soprano voice seems familiar.

I try to look for the source of the voice, but everything is pitch black and yet somehow fuzzy. I wonder if I've gone blind or something. “Who are you? What’s happening?” I demand, shocked to hear my voice come out so easily. I expected it to sound strained, what with all the pain I'm in.

“Oh, I’m Lilith. One of your ancestors. From a long time ago. A long, long time ago. Like millenia ago.”

I feel confused.

“I can help you, if you like. But in return, you have to do me a favor,” Lilith continues.

“What favor?” I ask, trying to ignore the desperate part of me saying it would do anything to make this terrible pain stop. Trying to play it off like I'm not completely desperate.

“I want you to go help my brothers. If you agree to go help them, then I’ll be able to help you. Once you’re finished, you can go back to your normal life, you have my word.”

“How long will it take?” I ask, trying to ignore the agony I feel so I can think things through. There’s something strange about all this. Like magic, or supernatural, or something.

“Oh, who knows?” she says. I can tell she’s lying, but...I suppose I can help her family. That can't be something sketchy, right? The pain is getting to be unbearable, urging me to agree quickly. It quickly convinces me it won’t be too bad of a trade. Though I still think it's kind of rude to only offer to help me in exchange for helping her, but, well, it feels like it’s the only option.

“Alright, I’ll help,” I agree.

“Perfect!” Lilith says.

Everything starts spinning, though I don’t know how I know that since I can’t see anything. My memories get increasingly fuzzy, and I grow confused. What was I just doing again? It seemed important…

I feel a lulling, almost hypnotizing feeling, and I feel my consciousness and worries slip away into quiet darkness.

Notes:

Thank you so much for reading! And even reading my ending note? Clearly you're pretty awesome. (Not that I'm biased or anything. No, not me...)

If you're intrigued and want to know what happens, please subscribe:) Maybe I can get something up once a week at least? That seems fair, right?

Hehe but seriously, thank you. And if you wouldn't mind, please consider leaving kudos and a comment telling me what you think. I even hear Simeon blesses people who leave kudos and comments. And there's a rumor going around that Lilith haunts the people that don't? Idk, better not to risk it, right?

Haha jk but I'd love to hear from you. Especially please comment and let me know if you like it in first person, or if you would prefer it in second person reader insert. I really want to know what my readers think on that, since it's still at an early stage where I can change perspective without it being a nightmare.

Thanks and have a fantabulous day!
