Coffee and Calligraphy

Summary:

For day 4, prompt 4; a meet cute in a coffee shop and a potential first date

Work Text:

It was always like clockwork for him. Same time in the morning rush hour, same black coffee order and butter croissant. The tall, fair-haired stranger with the ethereal good looks and crisp clothes. Greta looked eagerly at the clock, counting down the seconds until he arrived.

In all honesty, she would’ve been lying if she said she didn’t have a bit of a crush on him. She just hoped she wasn’t as obvious as her best friend claimed she was.

“You’re staring again”, Marius snickered as he walked over to her counter, still finishing off the remains of his blueberry muffin and cappuccino. Marius Gharbi, who owned the tattoo parlor next to Greta’s flower-coffee joint shop. It was a business plan the two best friends had set up, with Greta lending the occasional hand with his clients’ more artistic tattoo designs.

Greta laughed in response to his teasing, leaning against her desk. “It’s not staring….he’s just not here at the exact time he usually is.” Marius rolled his eyes in her faux attempts to dodge his teasing. “Oh, so you’re keeping tabs on him now? Didn’t think that was a thing for couples, or whatever you call yourselves nowadays.”

Greta only laughed harder as she shoved into her friend’s shoulder. Just then, the one she was anticipating briskly walk through the door. Only a man such as tall and elegant as he could make flushed and flustered still sexy in the early hours of the morning. Greta noticed Adrian’s coming in and made her way behind the counter. “Well someone’s in a bit of a rush this morning.”

Adrian Fahrenheit Tepes, heir to his father’s conglomerate businesses and corporations and a polyglot like his mother, let out one of his most undignified laughs. Any other occurrence, he would have been embarrassed of his laugh, but seeing the reaction upon the young woman’s face made him think otherwise. Was it just the adrenaline kicking it, or was his heart beating faster than normal?

Greta quickly prepared his coffee, before handing the sleeved cup to him. “Well, don’t worry about that too much this morning. Lucky you have me to run and look out for your life now. Go ahead and take this for today, on the house.” Adrian smiled softly at her kind gesture, a light blush coming across his cheeks. “Thank you…Ms. Danesti.” “Oh, it’s just Greta, only Greta here.” Alucard took one of her hands into his, a gentle shake goodbye before he departed. “Goodbye, Greta. May your day be well.” As he pulled away and made his way towards the exit, Greta noticed something in her hand.

A small, folded piece of paper wedged between her fingers. Confused at the gesture, she unfolded the piece to some of the most visually pleasing calligraphy she had seen with a phone number written at the bottom.

“I’ve noticed you for quite a while now since I’ve visited, and want to get to know you better. Would you want to go to dinner sometime?”

Smiling deeply at his gesture, Greta perked her head up at Marius’s amused laughter. “Well, it seems that he finally made his move.”
