Master Kohga was currently in his favorite napping spot, just waking from a nap and feeling somewhat well rested. He sat up slowly and stretched then stopped upon hearing a somewhat familiar rattling, like the noise a wooden doll would make if jostled. Merrily hopping into the large clearing was the newest member of the clan.
A short figure wearing the usual yiga footsoldier uniform though with heavier armor removed. Yellowish green and orange leaves danced and bounced on top of its head as it bounded and hopped over to him. Childish and warm giggles filling the usual quiet as it came closer.
"Daaad!! You're awaake! Finallyyy!!"
The little yiga was a Skull Kid. The clan saw the child as a bit of an enigma. Skull Kids in general stay around the area they were 'born' in, there's a belief among them that leaving for too long can kill them. There was also the whole thing with Skull Kids fearing adults as well. So a Skull Kid in the Yiga Clan is certainly unexpected and the more context one gets the more wild it becomes.
There's different kinds of Skull Kids, depending on where they pop up at. Water ones, snowy ones, desert ones… its a decent list. Most would assume that, upon hearing the yiga have a skull kid, it would be a desert variant. Thorny with desert plants and flowers growing on it… but no. This Skull Kid was a tropical variant, all the way from some ancient ruins closer to the sea.
"Mmn you been waiting on me or something, kid?"
The Skull Kid gave an eager nod, wood clinking and leaves rustling. There had probably been a point in time where the Skull Kid's leaves had been far more vibrant, more alive and larger. However when it was found its leaves were unhealthy and frail, falling out or close to it. The scent of tropical flowers surrounded it as sap and resin leaked from open wounds. The bright and colorful clothes made from tropical plants and enchanted were shredded and torn, hardly clinging to its body. The kid had been attacked and in its panic had ran from its home.
As scary as the Yiga may be they weren't heartless, especially when it comes to kids. They had morals even if questionable. The moment the Skull Kid has been spotted a blademaster was quick to bring it in, and heartbreakingly the Skull Kid refused to run, as if accepting whatever fate it was to meet. For the first few hours they had the Skull Kid it was terrified. Even when the wounds it had were being tended to the child begged between tears and sobs to not hurt it. Though still terrified it did calm down. Instead being wary of the yiga who came to tend to it.
"Well what had you waiting for me? Its gotta be important to be so patient, right?" Kohga asked the Skull Kid. Who in response giggled as it pulled a dagger from the belt around its waist.
It didn't take that long however for the Skull Kid to warm up to the clan, Master Kohga being the one who truly broke the shell. He greeted the child directly and with no care of its terrified state. His usual childish antics made the Skull Kid's fears vanish and the kid didn't seem to view him as it did the other yiga. To the Skull Kid it was just talking to another kid. There the clan learned more about the Skull Kid. His name was Juuga, he was scared of mirrors, never tried banana, and liked the color purple.
"Watch this watch this watch this! Waaatch!" Juuga aimed and threw the dagger as he cried 'this!!' And the dagger flew through the air quicker than Kohga could track and found itself embedded deep in the rocky walls surrounding the pit area. The dagger was buried to the hilt actually.
Kohga stared and then cheered.
"Impressive!! You're a real quick learner, just some training and you can do THAT?!" He ruffled the kid's leaves and laughed. He felt pride deep inside.
Juuga was happily accepted into the clan, and quickly ended up adopted by Kohga and Sooga. The clan adored the kid and he brought some normalcy into their lives. Juuga was their enigma, their beloved enigma, and they would do what they could to keep him around.
Juuga laughed and ducked away from Kohga, shaking his head and letting his leaves set back in place. Kohga swiped Juuga's mask away and held it out of reach. The child grinned, wood moving in its stiff unnatural way. He giggles and clambers onto Kohga quickly, one good eye trained on the best path to retrieve his mask. Kohga cackled as his son climbed him and secured his mask back. The Skull Kid bumps his head against the side of Kohga's mask and Kohga pushes his head against him, making him fall on his back to the floor with an 'oumph!'. There was just a second of silence before the duo laughed.
In the future moments like these are a fading memory but cherished still. A constant longing to go back but an understanding of the impossible.
