Work Text:
Roman was a writer, so why couldn't he find the right damned words?! Why could he not find words filled with enough emotion for this wedding speech? His friend Ryuu was getting married to his beautiful girlfriend Asuna next week and Roman was the best man. Being the best man of course came with many responsibilities: looking after the rings until the wedding day, planning the bachelor party (which had turned out excellently, by the way), and of course writing this cursed speech.
Letting out a huff of frustration, Roman stood up from his writing desk and decided to take a break to get a cup of coffee to calm his agitation... Okay, a cup of Irish coffee. Only for the stress, though. Honest.
He passed many framed photographs on his way down the stairs and managed a half smile at some of the memories. Visiting his mother in Brazil, hiking in the mountains with his friend Artemis, a joking picture with his friend visibly exasperated Junichi right after he had to treat Roman for a broken arm... Good times, good times. Naturally, his husband Liqin was also in those photographs, looking radiant as ever and making the photos even more precious.
Liqin was so amazing and calming. It wasn't even just his beautiful fox-like face or slender figure, it was the endless sarcasm and wit that kept the days interesting and the softer side underneath that he revealed whenever Roman needed some real support. It was a shame that his husband wasn't here now, that would make the poor tired best man feel so much better... He wasn't here though, so coffee with whiskey to cope it was.
Flicking the kettle on once he arrived in the kitchen was easy and Roman started rummaging through cupboards while it boiled. Obviously he needed to search for the whiskey. Considering he still needed to actually write the blasted best man speech he wasn't going to get drunk. Not even tipsy. He would add just enough whiskey to take the edge off his frustration, that's all. Liqin wouldn't approve, but as previously stated he wasn't here, so who cared?
Roman's wedding with his beautiful fox had been the most amazing day, and Ryuu had made the most incredible speech as his best man. That's why he had to return the favour! This couldn't be anything less than perfect! He would continue working on it until it gleamed with perfection... Right after his Irish coffee.
---
One Irish coffee had turned into two, and two had turned into just straight up drinking whiskey. As guilty as the brunette would be about it later he had actually entirely forgotten that he had a speech to write. It had been so long since he last had a drink that he ended up getting caught up in it and had rather embarrassingly taken all the photos around the house off the walls and hoarded them in front of him. He couldn't help it! His friends looked so happy and Liqin looked so perfect... God, he missed him...
As his mind started to drunkenly drift the front door opened, and the sounded shocked Roman back to reality suddenly enough that he fell off the sofa and hiccupped in surprise. All he could do was sit there in a surprised daze as someone entered the house. Despite the answer being obvious his intoxicated mind couldn't guess who would be thee. As if anyone other than Liqin had a key to their house.
Once Liqin actually rounded the corner and came into view the drunk man dramatically gasped.
"Fox face! My fox face is back!"
Instantly, Liqin cringed at Roman's behaviour and rolled his eyes. The writer didn't care, he was just so glad that his husband was back! Before the sober man bothered to speak he swept gracefully into the room and grabbed the little whiskey that remained, putting it out of Roman's reach.
"Roman, why did you get so drunk? You're an idiot... My idiot, but still an idiot," the beautiful man said with a tired sigh before finally smiling. "Come on, let's get you sober, you fussy bastard."
Roman didn't mind the joking insult, and he was happy to comply with sobering up. Leaning on Liqin for support, the two of them stumbled to the kitchen with difficulty; Roman due to drunkenness and Liqin due to having to support nearly all of his husband's weight. Coffee was quickly made once they finally reached their destination. Regular coffee... Oh well.
Liqin insisted on Roman sobering up as much as possible before they tried to speak so he again complied, drinking his coffee and eating some bread to soak up the alcohol in his stomach while his beautiful fox petted his hair carefully. Like he said before, he loved how his husband could be soft and nurturing when he needed to be...
"So, why did you drink that much, fussy pants?"
The haze in his mind had somewhat cleared now, and even though he was definitely in no shape to do anything like drive until tomorrow he was pretty confident that he could hold a proper conversation now. Leaning over, he rested his head on Liqin's shoulder and sighed.
"At first it was jus' 'cause I was frustrated tryin' to write my speech... Then I just' kept drinkin' 'cause I was bored," he admitted sheepishly with a tiny guilty grin, his words still a little slurred. Liqin simply kissed the top of his head at that before playfully nudging him.
"You're a stupid baboon sometimes, Roman, but I love you anyway," his husband said in both an adoring and exasperated way. "If the speech is really giving you that much trouble let me help you with it tomorrow, okay? We'll finish it together."
Together... Yeah, that sounded like a good plan. They could tackle the problem together like they did with everything else. A dopey and affectionate smile spread across the brunette's face as he planted a messy kiss on his beloved's cheek. Tomorrow, once everything was back to normal, they could do this speech together.
Apparently he was still more drunk then he thought, because he had just been constantly muttering the word 'together' under his breath instead of actually responding. He only realised when his husband pointed it out. Liqin gently tapped his on the nose and nodded in confirmation.
"Yes, together you sentimental idiot. But only when you're more sober, let's take a nap together," his little fox suggested while cuddling him. "We can cuddle and when we wake up I'll make your favourite food, okay?"
"'Kay. Love you so much, little fox, you're my whole big world..."
He messily kissed his cheek again, and Liqin simply rolled his eyes and kissed his cheek in return.
"And I love you, you romantic dork."
God, Roman was so lucky to have him...
