Work Text:
The thing is, soulmates are very much a thing amongst awakeners. But it wasn't the 'you are the only one for me' or the 'I love you let's get married' kind of soulmates like what civilians think, no. The kind of soulmates awakeners get are the ones that goes beyond things like romance, attraction, or sexually attraction; it's... well, not as simple as that.
Not that romance between soulmates is taboo! If anything, romance is still very much a thing, because compatibility and all that, but-
Looking at Seo Jiwoo, and Kayden Break, of all people, well...
Jisuk thinks that in a master and disciple context, and in a soulmate context, Kayden and Jiwoo makes sense. Jiwoo was obedient, and strives for strength, and so utterless selfless and kind that it was almost scary. Kayden was the boogeyman of the Awakened world, the very personification of rebellion and ruthlessness. But, Kayden gloats, and Jiwoo wouldn't hesitate to uplift his master's already inflated ego. But in turn, Kayden would gleefully arm Jiwoo with the tools and weapons and knowledge everytime the guy would ask for guidance, going above and beyond what Jiwoo asks of him. There could only be one master for Seo Jiwoo, and there could only be one disciple for Kayden Break.
Wooin, in his opinion, thinks as far as familial affections go, Jiwoo will only acknowledge Kayden Break as his father figure, and no one else. And as odd as it is, it makes sense. Pkenty of sense, really, but it would take to loong to unpack all of Seo Jiwoo and Kayden Break. Inhyuk-ssi might've come close, but Wooin thinks that Inhyuk-ssi is more Jiwoo's hyung than abeoji. A well respected hyung, true - because Jiwoo is like that - but Kayden Break is the only one Jiwoo might call appa. Because Jiwoo is simply like that. Not that Jiwoo will say it out loud - Wooin thinks Jiwoo even knows it himself, to be honest - but it's how they act. Jiwoo, an adoring, filial son, and Kayden his indulgent, strict and proud appa.
Now, through the lens of romance and feelings, Subon is positive that Jiwoo is the only one for Kayden, and vice versa. She's not saying this because she's projecting, but because she simply has eyes. Eyes that work well, thank you very much. It was in the way Jiwoo and Kayden would speak in hushed tones, as if they're the only people in the world. The looks they give each other, infinitely soft and speaks a thousand soundless words. In the way they're so attuned to each other, moving in tandem with the ease of people who knows each other both in mind and body. More often than not Subin finds herself looking elsewhere when Jiwoo and Kayden are together, feeling like an intruder encroaching on their space. It would've been funny if it wasn't so stressful because, c'mon; this is Kayden Break they're talking about. Kayden Break and his Jiwoo. Jiwoo and his Kayden.
Are they simply master and disciple? Fpund family? Lovers caught in love that is yet to bloom? Who knows.
They're soulmates either way.
