Work Text:
I can’t believe only two weeks ago we were finalizing wedding details. My poor babe had been so busy between getting the wedding finalized, dealing with her courses and on top of which an eye infection, she was starting to freak out a little. The eye infection was slowly getting better, but not as fast as she would have liked, she had started to worry, the photographer for our wedding was going to lose their cool on her, which of course was just crazy.
I remembered walking in on her one night, she was sitting on her couch, tears streaming down her face, sadness encompassing her like a shadow, she kept muttering how nothing was going right, how it was her fault. In those moments, everything deep inside me stirred, all I wanted to do at that moment was protect her, take away her sadness, her pain, the tears, I wanted to be able to shield her even from herself at times.
As the tears silently creeped down her cheeks, I kneeled in front of her, I wiped away the tears and offered my hand, a smirk appeared as she gently took my hand. As one, we stood together, I drew her into my arms, until her head rested on my chest, my arms wrapping around her letting her know she was safe. I slowly started to sway, eventually she followed, and before long we were slow dancing to a tune I was humming.
I felt her head pull away as she looked up at me, I looked into those eyes that had such sadness when I first saw her sitting on the couch, her sorrow was slowly ebbing away, as the tears had slowly stopped.
“Why do you love me?” She asked as though it was the most ridiculous thought in the world.
I couldn’t help but smile at my beautiful girl, “That’s easy” I started as my arms wrapped around her tighter, “I love you, because you’re smart,” I placed a kiss on her cheek, “you’re pretty,” I placed a kiss on her other cheek. “You’re supportive” I placed a kiss on her forehead, “your breath doesn’t smell” I earned a giggle on that one. “You always use the proper their, there and they’re” this time her smirk turned into a brighter smile and a small chuckle escaped her lips. “You have that one sweater that has the stain right on your chest, a hole in your sleeve,” she burst out laughing.
“Really does it for ya, huh?”
“You have no idea!” I chuckled pressing my forehead against hers, “Oh!” I pulled back, a grin appearing on my lips, “You have those mismatched socks, that just send my heart racing. I mean not everyone can pull off neon pink and florescent yellow” she couldn’t stop laughing as she pressed her forehead against my chest, “but most of all, I love you because you let me love you.”
I tilted her head up with my forefinger, pressing my lips upon hers, kissing her with all my might, letting her know the depth of my love for her in that one kiss. The rest of the night we simply stayed there slowly dancing to the quiet hum of a song long since forgotten by the universe.
That had been two weeks ago, and now, we were here about to get married, her eye infection completely gone. I stood at the front of the aisle, fidgeting with my cuffs, waiting for the most beautiful woman to appear, and to declare not just to each other, but to all our family and friends we belonged to each other.
“Relax, Wolffe” I turned to look at Sinker, he had a smirk on his lips, “She’ll be here”
I smirked back at him, “You sure?”
“Positive, that girl’s heart beats for you, and only you. She loves you.”
“He’s right” I turned to look at my buir, “She loves you, Wolffe,” when I had told him I had asked my babe to marry me, he automatically offered to be the officiant, saying he had never been prouder of me, and wanted to be the one to unite us. I couldn’t help beam at the man who had been there for me.
“I know. I just can’t wait to start this next adventure with her.” Plo reached out touching my shoulder, reassuring me everything was going to be okay.
“You have your vows?” Sinker asked behind me, I turned to look at him, annoyance written on my face.
“You’re supposed to have them!” I sneered at him.
Sinker’s eyes widened at my statement, his voice was hesitant and unsure, “Right. Of course.” I could see little beads of sweat beginning to form on his forehead.
“Well?”
“Hmm” Sinker feigned ignorance
“You have them, right?” My tone was clipped.
“Oh sure” Sinker patted his pockets, finally patting his breast pocket, “Right here” he had a smug smile on his face.
“Show me” I ordered
“Want me to show you the rings instead?”
“I want to see them both. Now.”
Sinker had a self-satisfied smile on his lips as he pulled out both rings, and the cue cards, “See, all good. Relax.”
I let out a sharp breath, “Do. Not. Mess. With. Me. Today.”
“Sorry”
I turned to face the entrance, hoping to see my beloved, just then the music started to play, when we all turned to see my babe walking down the aisle. Seeing how beautiful my cyar’ika was, how strong she was, how amazing she was, I couldn’t believe that this woman was going to be my wife. I swallowed the warm bubble that was threatening to rise. I let out a shaky breath as she walked closer to me, it was as though with each step she took, she was making the decision to choose me over and over again. The tears started to well up in my eyes, when I thought all this had started because my vod’ika had the guts to ask if she had a boyfriend. I couldn’t wait there any longer, I stepped closer to her, closing the distance, I wanted to show I was choosing her too. I offered my arm, as I stood in front of her, her face shined pure admiration and love towards me. We walked the rest of the way, arm in arm, till we stood in front of my buir, soon to be our buir.
“Thank you all for coming…” began Plo, in truth that was all I heard, the rest sounded like background noise, as though my head was underwater and everything was muffled except for her face. She held on to my hand clutching it for dear life, as we stood facing each other. I thought back to all the times she held my hand, traced them, placing gentle kisses on them. She always said my hands were some of my best features, aside from my eyes, my lips, my face, my body, she always seemed to giggle at the last one.
As I stood looking at my future, I couldn’t help the smile that spread from ear to ear on my face, I realized I had found my forever home in her arms, in her smile, in her eyes, she was my everything. No matter where we were, together or apart, she would always be with me in my heart.
“Wolffe!” Plo shouted, I whipped my head to look at him shock on my face, “Sorry, what?”
Plo let out a chuckle, “Need you to focus, son”
I nodded, “Right, sorry” I heard everyone laugh, even my babe was chuckling. I squeezed her hand as I found myself looking in her eyes again. I guess I had been so focused on my future, I hadn’t realized my buir was talking to me.
“Alright, it’s time for the vows, Wolffe”
“Right” I smirked
“You okay, handsome?” She asked bitting back a laugh, when she saw my face get all flustered, she knew hearing her call me handsome always had that effect on me.
I cleared my throat, regaining my composure, “Yup, all good”
“My dear” my buir began, “why don’t you start, let’s give the Commander here a few minutes to compose himself.”
I watched as she let out a giggle, nodding, as her best friend handed her the cards, she turned back to face me. She gave me a squeeze of my hand, she took in a deep breath, steadying her nerves.
“Wolffe, my love, my heart, my life, when we first met I was a bit of a mess. The moment I knew I couldn’t live without you in my life was when you showed me what it meant to be loved. To be truly loved. Never once, have you demanded that I love you. Never once had you made me feel that your love was something I had to earn. You taught me to love unconditionally, because that’s how you love me, unconditionally. From the moment I’ve met you, you have made me laugh, made me feel safe and protected, even from myself, you look after me and love me like no one has before…” she took in a shaky breath, “You …” she cleared her throat, “You do this all without expecting any recognition…” she took in another shaky breath, I squeezed her hand, I knew how difficult this had been for her, and I wanted to remind her I was there, always. “Love, y-you show me every day, i-in every way, at every moment, how much you love me. I c-can’t wait to be your wife, because after three years and eight months, never once have you made me question if you love me” a tear escaped down her cheek, I reached forward gently wiping it away. She tilted her head and smiled at me, “see just like that, you take care of me. I know for the next 10, 20, and even 30 years and beyond, I know you will continue to show me how much you love me. I hope during all that time, I can show you even an ounce of the amount of love you deserve. I love you. My heart is yours. Yesterday. Today. Tomorrow, and forever.”
She beamed her radiant smile at me, I couldn’t hold back as I cupped bother her cheeks pulling her in for a kiss. This woman was all I could ever dream of, all I could have hoped for.
“Oh … umm … I guess, you may kiss the bride, I now pronounce you husband and…” Plo let out chuckling
“He still needs to do his vows” Sinker whispered
“Oh, right!” Plo laughed out.
I couldn’t help laugh against her lips, at the whole conversation, I pulled back smiling, I turned to my buir who was still laughing, “Sorry, couldn’t wait.”
“That’s okay. Wolffe, your vows, please”
Sinker offered me the cue cards, I turned slightly to him, shaking my head ‘no’, “It’s okay. Thanks, Sinker.”
“Sure, now you don’t want them” Sinker mumbled, I gave him a glare and turned back to look at my babe.
“Babe, there are so many little things that have added up to the moment I knew I couldn’t live without you. Moments that I know will live on forever in my heart. Our first conversation. Our first date. Our first kiss. A lot of other firsts” I smirked, “Your brilliantly beautiful brain, your smile for one, the same one you are beaming at me, right now.” Her face blushed at that, “Those beautiful freckles that each hold all my love, your legs for another” she laughed at that, “your laugh, maker I love your laugh.” I squeezed her hand, “Your unending support, I appreciate all the moments you have my back, because I know you would never support someone you didn’t respect or admire. From the moment I met you, you’ve had my heart. I know I may not always say it, but I love you with every single atom of my being. Before you, I never realized what it meant to love this deeply. You have softened my hard edges, you allow me to show you who I really am, not who people think I am. Everything about you is special and amazing, and I will spend every second remind you. I love you, babe. Yesterday. Today. Tomorrow. Forever.”
She leaned forward crashing her lips against mine, I didn’t hesitate returning the kiss with as much love as possible, wrapping my arms around her, pulling her in.
“I now pronounce …”
“Rings!” Sinker commented
“Damn it! Okay, sorry. Rings”
We both laughed at my buir, we pulled back waiting for Plo to tell us what we had to do next.
“Wolffe, do you take this precious beautiful sweetheart, to be your lawful wedded wife, to have and to hold, in good times, in bad, and for all the in-between?”
“I do” My face was starting to hurt from all the smiling I was doing.
“Then repeat after me” Sinker passed me the ring, I held it in my hand, afraid I was going to drop it from how much my hand was shaking, “with this ring, I do wed”
“With this ring, I do wed” I placed it gently on her perfect finger.
“My precious daughter, it’s now your turn. Do you precious one, take Wolffe, to be your lawful wedded husband, to have and to hold, in good times, in bad, and for all the in-between?”
“I do” I watched as her eyes never left mine, even as Sinker passed her the ring, she was amazing.
“Then repeat after me, with this ring, I do wed.”
“With this ring, I do wed” she glanced down as she placed the ring on my finger.
Plo turned to Sinker, “Are we good? Forgetting anything?” I heard Sinker sniggering behind me, trying to compose himself, “No, we’re good” he let out.
“Okay. Finally, I can now pronounce you, Husband and Wife. You may kiss the bride, again!”
I grabbed my wife, wrapping my arms around her, pressing my lips against hers, dipping her, I kissed her as though it was the last time I would ever kiss her, letting her feel all my love and passion for her. I vowed from that moment forward, each kiss would be as though it were my last.
The End.
