Chapter Text
Winter is a wondrous time. Snow blankets the landscape, making everything look fresh and new. Everyone bundles up in fluffy coats to stay warm. Warm beverages like hot cocoa become a staple and fill the air with a pleasant aroma.
Of course, when you’re a cold-blooded reptile monster, none of these great things make the insufferable cold suck any less. Susie plodded along, absolutely exhausted and barely aware of her surroundings. Every winter she struggled to maintain the energy to get out of bed and keep moving. Before, she would just not even bother and stay in the relative warmth of her bed.
Thankfully, she now had the motivation to leave the confines of her bed and head out into the world. Said motivation was dead ahead, wearing a red tank-top and a green knee-length skirt. Noelle, being a reindeer, had grown out a thick and fluffy winter coat and therefore didn’t need any extra protection from the cold.
“Good morning, Susie!” Noelle greeted her girlfriend. Once the other girl got close enough, she leaned up and planted a kiss on her lips. Susie seemed to perk up slightly at the contact.
“Mrrmn,” she mumbled back. Noelle laughed, already knowing how her girlfriend was with the cold. She wasn’t going to be able to get cohesive sentences out of her until they made it somewhere warmer. Noelle took her hand and started to walk towards school. She didn't make it very far before meeting resistance.
“Susie, are you alri- AH!” Noelle yelped as she was suddenly scooped up by Susie. The larger girl curled around the smaller who was being cuddled tightly to her chest. Noelle’s nose began glowing a deep red as she spluttered helplessly.
“S-S-Susie please! I-I love to cuddle you but we need to get to school!” Noelle said.
“Warm,” was Susie’s only response.
“It’ll be warm at school too!”
“You warm now.”
“W-well, we still need to get to school.”
“Ok,” Susie said. She unzipped her coat just enough to hug Noelle up to her chest before zipping it back up with Noelle inside. The only part of her that was visible was her head, which stuck out from the collar directly below Susie’s head. Susie rested her chin between Noelle’s antlers and started walking towards school. Noelle stuttered out her flustered indignation, nose burning a bright cherry red. Both things were easy for Susie to ignore considering she technically didn't qualify as awake at the moment.
Upon arriving, most everyone were inside their respective classrooms. The only person left in the entrance hall was Kris. Upon seeing the couple approach, they nodded in a way that gave off a very “Yeah that looks about right” vibe and waved hello.
“Hello Kris,” Noelle greets, a little subdued and accepting of their fate. At the very least, Susie seemed to resemble a conscious being after warming significantly from her smol fluffy girlfriend and being inside a building now. Susie and Kris started walking toward their classroom. As they approached, Noelle began to squirm.
“A-Alright, this was kind of fun and cute but p-please put me down before we get in that’s k-kind of embarrassing and I really don’t wanna m-make a scene and it’s k-kinda hot in here not like I’m saying you’re hot but I’m not not saying that y-you are kinda hot but I meant tem-temperature hot,” Noelle rambled as she vainly struggled for freedom. Susie finally relented and unzipped her jacket before gently setting Noelle down on her feet.
“I’m not apologizing. You’re hot,” Susie said. Upon realizing what she said she hastily added “Like temperature. Although, I guess yeah you’re kinda hot too.” Noelle’s nose had finally started to dim down, but at that comment it brightened right back up. Kris stared at the couple with a very unimpressed look before they walked into the classroom.
“Well, I guess we should go ahead and get to class…” Noelle said, still flustered and unable to make eye contact.
“Yeah,” Susie agreed. She quickly pecked Noelle on the cheek and laughed at the squeak that she let out before opening the door and walking to her seat, a blushing Noelle following behind her. Maybe the cold wasn’t so bad after all.
