Work Text:

Eddie grimaces, nose scrunching as he takes in the neon green of the couch cushions waiting for him inside the Amazon Prime box that has just landed on his doorstep. He sighs, dumping it on the kitchen counter alongside the stacks of papers, paint samples and empty plastic packaging yet to be discarded into the overflowing trash can.

“Hey, Buck?” he calls out, loud enough to be heard over the rhythmic hammering coming from the open doorway leading outside into the back yard.

The banging stops, a blonde head of hair peering around the patio doors. He has a pencil tucked behind his ear and splashes of blue paint staining his retired LAFD t-shirt.

“Yeah?” Buck says with an easy smile, a smudge of paint on his cheek. Eddie reaches into the box, pulling out the offending cushion. Buck’s face reacts in the same way, disgust etching its way into the corner of his mouth. “I definitely ordered navy,” he says, stepping into the house, “I swear.”

Eddie drops it with a sigh. “I know you did,” he says, pulling out his phone and opening up his order history. “You spent an hour worrying over whether Chris would prefer navy or royal blue.”

“There’s a difference!” Buck pouts, stopping in front of his boyfriend. Despite them being only a few inches apart in height, he towers over Eddie as he frowns, glaring daggers and cursing Jeffrey Bezos to hell and back in his head. He can see it in the furrow deepening between Eddie’s brows.

“Hey,” he says, gently, thumb reaching out to smooth the crease. Eddie looks up at him, all but pouting, and Buck melts. “He’s going to love it,” he reassures, “and he’s still at camp for another two days. We have time.”

Eddie groans, placing his phone on the counter. He doesn’t move away from how Buck is holding his face, jaw now cupped in his hands. “I know he won’t care,” Eddie relents, “he’ll be excited enough by the new desk, he doesn’t care about the details, I know . I just —”

“Want it to be perfect,” Buck finishes for him, the corner of his lips quirking into a grin. “And it will be.”

“It better be,” Eddie grumbles, no bite in his tone. He places a hand over Buck’s own on his face and gives it a squeeze. “Thanks.”

Buck grins, leaning in and pressing a quick peck to his boyfriend’s waiting lips. “Back to work I go!” he whoops, already stepping away before Eddie has processed that he really doesn’t want to stop kissing him.

“Right away?” Eddie asks, face already burning where Buck was holding it.

“I’m aiming for perfection,” Buck says with a shrug, already disappearing back outside. “No time to waste.”
