Save a Dance for Me

Summary:

Yixing just wanted one night of freedom before meeting his fiance and future husband, The Crown Prince Kim Junmyeon.

He was sure that no one would find out. After all, what's the worst that could happen? It wasn't like his fiancé was there and saw him anyway.

Work Text:

“Yixing, please, this is crazy!” Baekhyun grumbled, grabbing his friend's arm before he left the protection of that dimly lit alley that hid them.

“Aiyowei… I already told you, we aren't going to do anything! I just want for one night not to be Crown Prince Zhang. Only, Yixing. Just… me. Please, Baekhyunnie.”

Baekhyun sighed. Even though Yixing was his prince and he, as a royal guard, had a duty to fulfill his requests, Yixing wasn't giving him an order, he was asking his friend to help him and be by his side only. Baekhyun preferred it to be an order. It would hurt less to have to comply with an order from the prince than to deny a request from his friend.

“Also,” he continued when the alpha remained silent, “I'll go there with or without you!”

“You know this isn't happening,” Baekhyun snapped, huffing at the prince's stubbornness.

The guard followed the eldest to the square where the party was in full swing. Baekhyun wasn't really angry with Yixing (he never in his life could be really angry with his friend), he was angry with himself for knowing that Yixing's request was nothing grand or unfair, and he knew he couldn't say no to Yixing and be at peace with it.

All his prince wanted was, for just one night, to experience the freedom he never had within the walls of the palace he had lived in all his life.

Many believed that Yixing, for being an omega, lived in reclusion because of it, but wasn't true. His parents have always believed in their son's ability and never made him submit for being an omega — on the contrary, they encouraged him to know the weaknesses and strengths an omega possesses and how capable they're —, Yixing's parents were always overprotective of their heir because he was, simply, the heir. They value Yixing's safety above all and if that meant Yixing would never leave the palace until the time of his marriage, to be protected from those who wanted his death or to possess him for being an omega and taking his rightful throne, that's exactly what they would do.

Because of this, even though Baekhyun didn't agree, part of him was grateful that Yixing trusted him with his plan and didn't really decide to run away and go alone to that party that the villagers of his husband's kingdom had organized in honor of his marriage to the Crown Prince Kim Junmyeon.

It would be one of the biggest lies the alpha would have told if he said he regretted complying with the prince's wish. Yixing and he grew up together, out of the prying ears of the court Baekhyun always took the omega as an older brother; so watching Yixing have fun, laugh openly and truly , dance as he always loved to do without being watched or pressured to please the palace, made the royal guard equally happy.

Yixing practically glowed and all eyes fell on him. He always had an aura that screamed royalty around him, but what caught everyone's attention was his pure and simple joy and happiness.

The omega undoubtedly loved his parents and wasn't resentful of the arranged marriage. He always knew this was a duty he would have to fulfill as Crown Prince. He just wished he had experienced it before. Having been to a real party before, not those boring, monotonous balls where people only pretended to have fun.

Yixing was laughing and dancing with another handsome young omega, Jongin if he wasn't mistaken, who accompanied him with immeasurable grace to the upbeat music. When the choreography required changing pairs, Yixing felt as if all the dance lessons he had received in his life had been erased from his mind the moment he found himself in the arms of the most beautiful man he had ever seen in his life.

The alpha, Yixing noted from his scent, was breathtakingly beautiful. His brown eyes sparkled, his cheeks were flushed, the line of his nose and the sharp line of his jaw made up a striking and incredibly beautiful face. But his smile, soft and sweet, showed an almost cute facet of the alpha, his teeth bared as he smiled made him look slightly like a bunny and Yixing, perhaps, could be a little in love.

If the other noticed the way Yixing was staring at him, completely bewildered, he didn't comment. He continued to guide Yixing throughout the dance, and the omega who had always been keen to lead before didn't mind at all having the unknown boy doing it. Not when he felt strangely safe and comfortable in his arms.

Poor innocent prince.

Little did he know that unlike him, who didn't know what his fiancé looked like — they'd only met once as children —, his future husband, Kim Junmyeon, knew his face and beauty as well as he knew his own realm.

As heir and future king, Junmyeon traveled and participated in numerous diplomatic meetings at various courts, and his favorite place to visit has always been the Zhang Royal Family. He wasn't allowed to interact with their heir, but for Junmyeon it was enough to admire the omega from afar when he was distracted, whether in the garden, dancing and singing, or playing with the puppies.

Surprise was little to tell Junmyeon's state when he saw his future husband and younger brother, Jongin, dancing together. He never imagined he would find the omega there, having fun with his people, but it was a comforting image. Junmyeon knew he couldn't have asked for a better mate.

When the song ended, the couples parted and applauded the musicians.

Soon another song started, Yixing was about to invite the unknown alpha for one more dance, but the other one was faster.

“I'm afraid I must go now, unfortunately. I hope my fiance can save a dance for me later, my prince.”
