*leans back on my rocking chair like an old lady* The thing about youngsters these days is that they are not careful of their own safety. They can be quite reckless, and most of the time end up in accidents. These kids are rebels, and oftentimes they end up hurting themselves in the process.
There was this one instance, in the peaceful building of RBW Entertainment.
Actually, it’s not that peaceful. There’s always laughter and screaming.
You see, the boys don’t really have a sense of safety most of the time. They like to run around, play hide and seek, and many more in the halls of RBW. One of their favourite things to do is roam the halls with… riding bicycles? Well, like I said, no sense of safety.
The staff had gotten used to these stupid shenanigans, usually shaking their heads and occasionally reminding them to be careful. Not that any serious accident has happened so far (minus the time Yonghoon crashed into a plant once). But it’s always good to remind them.
It was a day where both ONEWE and ONEUS had no schedule, so they had a lot of free time. Unfortunately, it happened to be raining outside that day so they couldn't really do any outdoor activities. Harin and Leedo were busy in the gym, as usual, working out. Kanghyun was reading a book in the band room, Ravn was making a song in his studio, Seoho and Keonhee ordered some food, Hwanwoong was watching a show on his phone, and Yonghoon was… doing whatever Yonghoon does.
Now you might be wondering, Author-nim, where are Dongmyeong, Dongju, and Giwook? Now, first of all, I will be referring to them as the maknaes or the 00 line. Secondly, they are, like I said earlier in this fic, grabbing their bikes and preparing to race down the empty halls.
So it started when the rain decided to cancel their plans of heading out that day. Dongmyeong was probably the most disappointed out of everyone since he had plans to go out and eat and maybe take pictures at someplace nice (of course, dragging Harin along in the process). Seems like mother nature had other plans for him. He probably spent a good whole hour sulking about it before Kanghyun scolded him for his constant whining and disrupting his peaceful reading. Dongmyeong ended up dragging his feet around the company to find something to do. He wasn’t too hungry at the moment (even if he was going out to eat, he planned on stopping by shops before eating) so no point in buying food right now, he wasn’t tired enough to go take a nap, but he also had no will or energy to work out. Practising the keyboard? Not in the mood either.
So what was he going to do that day?
He passed by a few rooms where some music is playing, most likely trainees practising. Dongmyeong smiled to himself as he reminisced those painful days when he was a contestant on THE UNIT. He’ll pray for these young trainees who are fighting for their dreams.
After a bit more walking he stopped by where the bikes were parked in the hallway. He wasn’t unfamiliar with biking and he did biking in the corridors with the others often.
Of course!
The idea struck him like a lightning bolt striking a tree. He grabbed one of the bikes and mounted it, pedalling off down the hallway. Perhaps riding a bike inside the company building isn’t such a bad rainy day activity.
Turning left, turning right, stopping at a dead end, and going back. It felt relaxing. No one was in sight and the cool air of the building made it even better.
And that’s when it hit him, the best idea he ever had in his entire life.
He immediately picked up the pace and pedalled down the hallway, turning left, turning right, turning around when he went the wrong way, and finally stopping at Giwook’s studio. He could hear the faint sound of music and rapping playing so waited till it died down. Once it did he gave a quick knock on the door before entering, finding the younger boy focused on his monitor. His attention was broken off momentarily to greet Dongmyeong.
“Whatcha need, Hyung?”
“You busy?” Dongmyeong asked, leaning against the doorframe.
Giwook simply shook his head. “Just finished recording.”
“Perfect!” The older clapped. “I was wondering if you wanted to go biking around the building.
Giwook was quick to agree and join Dongmyeong out of his studio, heading to where the bikes are parked and grabbing one of them. The two biked around the building again, greeting the staff they pass by. As they continued biking through the halls, they stopped by Dongju, who seemed to have been from the studio, supposedly recording something (A cover perhaps?). He was a bit surprised to see the two on bikes and seemingly waiting for him.
"What's this about?" He inquired.
"Just looking for something to do on a rainy day, y'know?" Dongmyeong singsonged as he dismounted his bike to approach his twin.
"I was actually looking for you," he told Dongju. "The two of you actually," he added as he looked back at Giwook. The two of them exchanged looks before turning back to the oldest of their pack of three.
"Say, what if we had a bike race around the halls?"
Dongju quirked a brow at the offer. They have ridden their bikes in the halls multiple times. But they never have done a race before.
Giwook hummed and looked around the area. It has been relatively empty. Staff, trainees, and idols have been in different rooms and busy with their jobs. They had nothing better to do so…. Why not?
They started at the end of the hallway, all in a stance ready to kick off at the signal.
On your marks
Get set
Go!
Dongju was first to launch off, pedalling ahead of the other two. Of course, Giwook didn't want to lose, so he sped up to match the older. Dongmyeong didn't pedal as fast, already exhausting himself from biking earlier (now he regrets it).
"I'm gonna win!" Giwook exclaimed as he managed to pass Dongju. Left, right, right, left, there was just no stop!
In the end, it was Giwook who made it to the end first. He let out a victorious whoop as he hopped off his bike. Dongmyeong and Dongju closely tied in second place, huffing as they finally made it.
"Wow you're fast," Dongmyeong remarked.
Giwook smugly smiled and flipped back his hair dramatically which made Dongju roll his eyes.
"I demand a rematch," he stated.
Giwook looked at him with a devious grin.
"I don't see why not."
So off they were pedalling down the halls at top speed once again. Right left, around, left and right (rip it rip it). Dongmyeong eventually found it hard to keep up.
Dongju and Giwook were competitive, passing each other multiple times. Dongju chuckled to himself as he passed Giwook once more. He closed his eyes momentarily to bask in his potential victory.
Well, that was a poor move.
The moment he opened his eyes he yelped at the sight of a staff member right in front of him. Thankfully, they managed to jump out of the way, but Dongju unfortunately lost control of his bike in a panic.
Seeing the commotion caused Giwook to lose focus and bump into a potted plant standing in the hallway. Things went by so fast and the next thing you know both Dongju and Giwook got flung off their bikes.
Dongmyeong, who was rather far behind, stopped in his tracks. His body froze upon seeing the aftermath of the crash. Giwook had landed on top of Dongju, head collided with the wall. The staff member looked at them in horror then turned to Dongmyeong with a questioning look, but he didn’t say anything nor look at them as he got off his bike and rushed over to the two.
Dongju groaned as Dongmyeong helped Giwook off him, wincing as he tried to prop himself up.
He cursed under his breath. “I think I sprained my arm.”
Dongmyeong’s eyes widened as he saw his brother clutching his arm. Giwook had managed to sit up but there was a bruise on his head.
“How bad does it hurt?” He asked them.
Giwook took a moment to compose himself, blinking a few times before touching the dark swole on his head.
“Dizzy,” was all he managed to utter out.
The feeling of guilt washed over Dongmyeong. All he wanted was to have a bit of entertainment to kill his boredom. He didn’t think about how it could end in a disaster like this.
This was the worst idea he ever had his entire life
“What’s going on here?”
The voice came from behind them. It was Yonghoon, rushing over like an anxious mother (well he kinda was in this moment). He looked at the three in concern seeing them splayed on the floor with two broken bikes cast aside.
“Dongmyeong, what happened?” He turned to the oldest of the three. It wasn’t just worry, Dongmyeong could sense a hint of anger in his voice. He didn’t even dare look at the older man.
He mustered up as much courage as he could and took a deep breath.
“We decided- I invited Giwook and Dongju to race and they didn’t see where they were going and-”
“It was your idea?”
Dongmyeong gulped. He slowly lifted his head and met eyes with the Yonghoon. His expression was inscrutable. It was a mix of disappointment with worry and what Dongmyeong assumed was a bit of anger.
“You know the CEO already scolded us enough times for playing bikes in the hall. Now you decided to race and two of you got hurt,” he chided.
“I know I’m sorry hyung,” Dongmyeong mumbled quickly. A lot of "it was my fault"s echoed through his head. But soon, he felt a hand on his head and it somewhat helped ground his frantic thoughts.
“I’m not mad, Myeongie,” Yonghoon sighed. “But you three should’ve been more careful.”
Dongmyeong glanced at the two broken bikes. He grimaced at the realization that he would have to pay for those later on.
“Let’s get you guys somewhere that isn’t the hallways,” Yonghoon advised whilst getting the bikes out of the way and resting them against the wall. Dongmyeong helped Dongju and Giwook up and Yonghoon brought them to the nearest practice room. Thankfully, it was empty so they did not have to deal with any questioning for the time being.
“I’ll go get some ice,” Yonghoon announced before leaving the room, leaving the three alone. Dongmyeong took the time to recollect his thoughts. His head was buried in his arms with his knees pulled up to his chest. A shaky sigh escaped his lips.
“Are you crying?” Dongju asked. Dongmyeong shook his head as he looked up at them.
“I’m sorry I got you guys into this mess,” he murmured from under his arms.
“Hyung, it’s not your fault,” Giwook retorted.
“But I was the one who asked you guys to race-”
“We wouldn’t have seen this coming. Besides, we weren’t careful either,” Dongju added.
The room was silent for a long time until Yonghoon came back with some ice packs, along with Youngjo entering with him. The rapper immediately walked over to Dongju and crouched down next to him.
“Does it hurt?” He asked, lifting the hand up and pressing an ice pack against it. Dongju winced at the sudden cold sensation but quickly adjusted to it.
“A bit,” he muttered. Youngjo’s knitted brows relaxed and he nodded slightly.
Yonghoon helped Giwook settle the ice pack on his head. The younger shivered slightly at the contact but soon found himself leaning into the soothing touch. Once he had been taken care of Yonghoon turned back to Dongmyeong.
"Did you get hurt as well?"
Dongmyeong shook his head mumbled another apology
"Hey, it's already in the past. Now, all we can do is just take care of these two and you probably need to tell the manager later."
Dongmyeong groaned when he realized how many people had to know about their injuries, especially Dongju's. Adjustments would happen with the boy's performance. He just hoped he could figure out how to explain it without mentioning that they decided to race inside the building.
"Don't worry, I'll be with you when you go tell them," Yonghoon reassured seeing Dongmyeong's sour expression.
"I have no idea what you kids were doing but I suggest don't go racing in the halls when you're bored next time."
The three gave a sarcastic "okay dad" at him which was responded with a playful glare and laughter.
"Seriously though, don't try stupid stuff like this again. You're lucky it's just a sprained arm and a head bump."
Dongmyeong hummed in agreement. He's probably not gonna touch the bikes for a while. And it seems like he won't be eating out a lot for a while, considering he's gonna have to replace the bikes.
“You guys wanna eat something after this? I’m paying,” Youngjo offered.
The others chimed a chorus of yes which sounds a bit too enthusiastic for someone who just got into an accident. Then again, they’re probably hungry after all that.
