something so precious about this

Summary:

everyone thinks misty and cordelia are sneaking off to have sex (they're not)

Notes:

Work Text:

“You have to be quiet!” Cordelia whispered, laughing quietly as Misty stumbled down the hall.

“I’m tryin’ , Delia!”

Misty opened the door to their bedroom and ran towards the bed.

“You’re not trying hard enough, then,” Cordelia replied, catching up with Misty and poking her in the ribs.

“C’mere,” Misty said, flopping onto the bed.

Cordelia laid down beside Misty on the bed, crawling up beside her underneath the covers. She nestled her face into the crook of Misty’s neck and breathed in, smelling earth and lemon and their shampoo. Misty kissed the top of Cordelia’s head.

“All this sneakin’ around makes me feel like we’re breakin’ the rules,” Misty said.

“I don’t want everyone knowing that I take unnecessary breaks from work to lay in bed with my girlfriend, Misty,” Cordelia laughed.

Misty giggled and pulled Cordelia into her chest.

They laid together for a while, longer than they usually did, before Cordelia wiggled out of Misty’s arms and sat up.

“Already?” Misty whined.

“We’ve been up here for way too long, Mist, I gotta go,” Cordelia said, leaning down to place a soft kiss to Misty’s lips.

“I love you,” Misty called.

“I love you,” Cordelia replied before opening the door.

Cordelia adjusted her shirt as she approached the stairs, making sure she looked clean and presentable before returning to the common areas.

Her heels clacked against the hardwood, announcing her presence long before she entered the kitchen. When she crossed the entryway, everyone’s heads were already turned her way. Cordelia didn’t think much of it, just continued towards the counter where she poured herself a cup of coffee and joined the girls at the table.

She slid in beside Zoe at the end of the table.

“Hey, Cordelia,” Zoe said.

From the opposite end of the table, Cordelia could hear someone — she assumed Madison — snickering. She scoffed, hoping whoever it was heard.

“Did all your lessons go well this morning, girls?” Cordelia asked, voice raised ever so slightly.

Cordelia listened as a chorus of “Yes, Ms. Goode”’s filled the room.

“I’m glad to hear that!” Cordelia cleared her throat. “I’ll be a bit busy again this afternoon, but dinner will happen as usual tonight, okay?”

Cordelia scanned the table to make sure all the younger girls heard her. She caught Coco’s eye and saw Coco wink. Cordelia wondered why everyone was acting so weird, but dismissed the thought without worrying much about it. She was just reading too much into it.

When lunch was over, Cordelia made her way into her office. She closed the door behind her and placed her mug on the desk.

“Hey, Delia!”

Cordelia jumped, turning around abruptly and coming face to face with Misty.

“Misty,” Cordelia said, taking a deep breath. A smile pulled at the corners of her lips, “Hi.”

Misty’s hands snaked around her waist, pulling Cordelia in gently. Cordelia leaned into Misty, planting a kiss on her forehead before finding her lips.

“What are you doing in here?” Cordelia asked, pulling away.

“I was waiting for you,” Misty said simply, shrugging and kissing Cordelia’s cheek.

“We missed you at lunch.” Cordelia walked to her desk and sat down. “ I missed you at lunch.”

“Sorry, I fell asleep after you left.”

Cordelia smiled. “You should probably get going, make sure Zoe doesn’t have anything she needs help with.” Misty groaned. “I’ll find you later before dinner, okay?”

Misty smiled at Cordelia, then left the room.

Sure enough, Cordelia went looking for Misty before dinner. She peeked into all the classrooms, which were mostly empty now that the scheduled classes were over, and in the kitchen, but couldn’t find Misty anywhere. Just as she was about to give up and go to her room, she heard laughter from outside in the greenhouse. Of course Misty was in the greenhouse.

Cordelia made her way out to the greenhouse quickly, excited to see Misty. When she pulled the door open and stepped inside, though, she saw Misty, Madison, Zoe, and Coco.

“Hey, Cordy,” Coco said.

“Coco, girls,” Cordelia said. “Misty.”

Misty didn’t look over right away, she was busy tending to a dying flower. Cordelia watched in awe as Misty breathed the life back into the plant. It never got old.

“So,” Madison said, forcing Cordelia to stop staring at Misty. “What brings you out here, Cordelia?”

“Just came to say hello,” Cordelia replied.

“Oh okay, so if we told you we needed Misty’s help for another little while you wouldn’t be… upset?” Madison pressed.

Misty’s eyes flicked up to Cordelia’s. “You guys don’t need me, do ya? I was plannin’ on headin’ inside,” Misty said.

Madison scoffed. “I knew it.” She looked over at Zoe. “You owe me 50 bucks.”

Zoe rolled her eyes and dug through her pockets, pulling from them a crumpled $50 bill and handing it to Madison.

“What are you betting on, exactly?” Cordelia asked.

“I bet Zoe $50 that you two’ve been sneaking off to have sex every other hour every day, and I was right,” Madison explained, eyes glinting with pride.

Zoe just rolled her eyes.

“We haven’t been havin’ sex in the middle of the school day!” Misty said quickly.

“Told you!” Zoe said.

Madison scoffed. “As if. What have you been doing then?”

“Laying in bed, fully clothed , and cuddling,” Cordelia said, voice wavering near the end as her face flushed red.

“You mean you haven’t been getting laid every time?” Coco interjected. “What the hell, Cords? I really thought you were getting some.”

“I do get some, thank you , but I happen to enjoy laying in bed with my girlfriend just as much.” Cordelia said.

“Give me my money back, Madison.” Zoe laughed.

“Can’t believe I had you both pegged wrong,” Coco said.

“Me neither,” Madison said, reluctantly handing Zoe her crumpled bill along with another $50.

“On that note,” Misty said, breaking a short bout of silence. “I’m taking Cordelia upstairs for a bit.”

Cordelia felt herself being tugged out of the greenhouse and into the house and up the stairs, and finally onto their bed.

Cordelia was snuggled up beside Misty again, all warm and comfortable. Misty ran her fingers through Cordelia’s hair with one hand, while her other held Cordelia’s hand.

“I can’t believe they thought we were sneaking off to have sex so much,” Misty laughed.

“Knowing you, that’s not unrealistic,” Cordelia replied, giggling when she heard Misty scoff.

“I’ve never heard you complainin’ about that before…” Misty said.

“I’m not!” Cordelia said quickly.

“That’s good.” Misty kissed Cordelia’s head. “I love you, Delia.”

“Thanks for taking breaks with me like this,” Cordelia replied. “I love you.”

“Anything for you, my love.”
