Bleeding Out

Summary:

Written for Whumptober 2021 Day 21: That's Where the Blood's Supposed to Be
Prompt: bleeding through the bandages | pressure

Piper and Frank were crouched across from her. Hovering back slightly were Leo, Nico, and Hazel. Annabeth fought the urge to scream at the Underworld children, to tell them Percy was not dying, they should not be hovering like vultures over a kill, and if they were here it damn well better be to keep Percy's soul firmly inside his body.

Work Text:

"Oh, gods," Annabeth choked.

"Will!" Piper hollered, and it sounded like she was actually charmspeaking. "Will, get over here, now!"

"Hang on, Percy, please hang on, hang on, stay with me..." Annabeth kept babbling, hardly knowing what she was saying. She pressed down hard against Percy's shoulder, but the blood kept seeping out under her hands. "I need--"

"Here." Cloth was shoved in her face and she took it, only realizing it was Frank’s shirt once she'd pressed it to the wound.

Percy groaned, face screwing up in pain. He was so pale. Too pale.

"Stay with me, come on, Seaweed Brain," she begged. "No dying, ok? Y-you're not allowed."

"Yes, ma'am," he murmured.

"Out of the way, move it!"

Will Solace came sprinting up, dropping down next to Annabeth. He gently shoved her away, pulling back the shirt to look at the wound.

Annabeth looked up and around, buzzing with a need to do something

Piper and Frank were crouched across from her. Hovering back slightly were Leo, Nico, and Hazel. Annabeth fought the urge to scream at the Underworld children, to tell them Percy was not dying, they should not be hovering like vultures over a kill, and if they were here it damn well better be to keep Percy's soul firmly inside his body.

Breathe in, breathe out.

Will was trickling nectar directly over the wound. Percy hissed, but already the bleeding was starting to slow. Nico and Hazel were Percy's friends, and were worried. That they were Hades/Pluto's children meant nothing right now.

Reyna and Jason approached, both grim-faced and covered in golden monster dust. They'd taken over the lead of the battle when Percy had fallen. Annabeth hadn't realized enough time had passed for it to be over.

"Solace, report," Reyna ordered.

"I can't use any more nectar-" and Annabeth's heart skipped "- but I think the worst is over." He pulled bandages and gauze out of his bag and started to wrap the wound. "You won't be using that arm for a few weeks, Jackson."

"N't fair," Percy murmured. His voice was weak and his eyes were closed, but he was losing his deathly pallor. "G'tta have... two arms... hold Annie 'nd Estelle."

"I can hold Estelle for the two of us," Annabeth choked. She bent forward and kissed her idiot's forehead. "Don't you ever do that again."

Notes:

Estelle has become dangerously powerful in the Riordanverse by sheer preciousness.
