Work Text:

"Tomo, have you ever thought of escaping Inazuma?"

"I'll believe it all
There's nothing I won't understand"

To others, the question would come like a thundering storm, sudden and unexpected, but to Tomo and Kazuha, storms were the norm; always to be expected. A question that everyone in Inazuma had considered at least once in their lifetime, especially under the current circumstances. Should they escape? Or suffer under the rule of the Shogun?

"I'll believe it all
I won't let go of your hand"

With the looming threat creeping onto them as the possibility of their visions getting confiscated, maybe they do need to escape. So they went to a person responsible for making boats, Kouichi, they had asked to build a small boat so that when they left they wouldn't be discovered by any of the Shogunate officers. Tomo and Kazuha are both Rōnins and good at hiding, even in the middle of the city, they can blend in and look like normal citizens. They waited until the building of their boat was finished before they met in an old and abandoned dock.

"Two birds on a wire"

"Kazuha, let's meet again tomorrow, I need to do something before we leave," Tomo said to his friend. Kazuha did not refuse, especially since he knew that Tomo would not do anything for no reason, also taking into consideration the situation they were in, some last-minute things can be important. "All right then, however, tomorrow we shall be free," He responded before going back into hiding, Kazuha had already left before he could even see his friend's sad smile.

"One says c'mon"

The next day, Kazuha was on his way to the old dock to wait for Tomo, but he heard talks from the citizens that there would be a duel before the throne was held, Kazuha became interested because such a battle would only happen once in a while. ‘Duel Before the Throne’ is a battle between two people held in front of the Shogun’s throne, whoever is defeated, will be given a punishment named ‘Musou no Hitotachi’, which the Shogun only uses to kill the defeated in the said duel. Kazuha went to the Shogun's home where the battle was to be held, he made sure not one guard would sense him entering.

"and the other says "I'm tired" "

But what Kazuha did not expect as he climbed the stairs to the Shogun's home, was to see his friend kneeling in front of the throne, his sword broken, while the Shogun was already preparing the punishment of Musou no Hitotachi, he could not do anything to stop it because of the Shogun's speed, all he managed to get was his friend's vision and broken sword, he ran while being chased by the soldiers in purple, he fought them, he then won, but it didn't matter to Kazuha as he continued in the old dock, as he boarded the small boat, as he rowed and rowed, all he could remember was his own thoughts, “What was his expression like in his last moments? I thought we would both be free, but I understand, the freedom you want is different from the freedom I long. ”

"Two birds on a wire
One tries to fly away and the other"

A tear fell from his face as he began to hear the roaring of thunder. There, Kaedahara Kazuha stood, alone, but not lonely, alone, but free.

"Watches him close from that wire
He says he wants to as well, but he is a liar"

Notes:

kazuha's friend/tomo's death can be interpreted in many ways, i just chose to go with the one with pain. this is actually supposed to be more angsty and long but i decided not to make myself cry so light angst it is :D
