Chapter Text
...In other news, The Hero Commission’s internship has been closed just as quickly as it opened. Eyewitnesses at the interview say the heroes took a rather notable interest in one particular interviewee, a young man who they said seemed to be rather young - near the ages of nineteen and somewhere in their early twenties…
...The Hero Commission has commandeered the Vigilante, Hunter, earlier today. He was caught while talking to thugs sent out by one of the gangs. As of right now, we do not know what the nature of the meeting was, but the suspicions of the Hero commission are that he was seeking to establish an alliance with them. Once more, we have been saved by the Heroes from the next Schlatt...
... Eye witnesses say they saw The Blade chasing the vigilante Theseus across the rooftops late last night, but the vigilante managed to evade capture. There’s no evidence to say this has anything to do with the cracked wall of an apartment building in the area, but authorities say there is a large possibility…
...The senate today has passed a bill, making it illegal to shelter any Vigilante from the Hero Commission. Along with this bill, our glorious Heroes are charged with protecting us from the next Schlatt, 'At all costs,' as Senator Joshua said. We can now be safely assured that another Vigilante never becomes Schlatt, ever again...
... A formal statement has been sent out to the good citizens of this city to keep an eye out for the vigilante after this incident. While before it was unsure if he was actually a threat, people are taking this as confirmation of just how dangerous the wannabe hero truly is. Keep your eyes peeled, and be safe…
...President Jeb has stated a public condemnation on Theseus, denouncing the adventure seeking Vigilante that only leaves chaos in his wake. 'I can not sit idly by as this criminal frames himself as a hero. It is of little doubt to me that he will try to fill in the footsteps Schlatt is now stepping in since his escape. I trust our Heroes, however, to deal with this threat to our great country. They will deal with this scoundrel much like they have dealt with Schlatt before, much as they are dealing with him now.' The Senate chamber was filled with applause as President Jeb returned to his seat. There is little doubt that everyone will be on the look out for this threat against L'manberg...
...Citizens are reeling tonight after the wanted terrorist, Theseus, was revealed to be the intern at the Hero Commission aliased as Tomathy Johnson, real name Tommy Simmons, and a mere sixteen years old...
...Two Vigilantes were captured earlier this night, the infamous Fruitninja duo. They were apprehended by Dream and George, saving us from the threat of the two Vigilantes. They are now in prison, serving their time for trying to undermine the city. Theseus, however, still remains at large, alongside several Vigilantes and Schlatt included. But we can let ourselves feel safe with the fact that the Heroes are closer than ever to the safety of our city than ever with Fruitninja in prison...
... He’s dangerous, is what I’m saying. Quite frankly I’ve been anti-Theseus since middle school; I mean I read Greek Mythology…
...The Pesky Bird, a Vigilante that has intervened at several attempted arrests of Vigilantes by Dream, has been reported dead. 'I nearly died in the exchange, but I was able to defeat him.' Dream reported as he handed in the body. 'I tried to bring him in alive, but he wouldn't stop. I regret the death, but I hope everyone can feel safer now that this menace has been cleared of our streets.' Again, Senators have thanked Dream for helping protect the city from the Vigilante, but there has been a notable lack of thanks from the public for Dream's act of service for them. On a second note, there has been a lack of a public appearance from Siren and the Blade recently, with several other Heroes having seemed to disappear...
...You’re gonna tell me, someone you practically raised on top of six fucking kids, whose hormone therapy you paid for, that after you praised and thanked every God you could think of for Theseus saving me, you’re gonna call him dangerous? You’re gonna sit there, and you’re gonna act like you didn’t call him a gift from the heavens when I told you he was the only reason I made it back home alive? Are you joking? You’ve got to be joking, it must be April first because this makes no fucking sense . You were telling me that him being on the streets was the only reason you were comfortable with me even taking night shifts at McDonalds not three fucking weeks ago...
Ryan sighed, raising up the remote and turning off the TV. The television snapped shut, the news lady disappearing. It had become something of a nightly ritual after he had done his work and preparation for his classes in the upcoming weeks. He didn't know why he had kept watching the news channels after that first time he listened to that tiny clip of the Interviewee for the Hero Commission, but he did it anyway. Maybe it was the feeling of dread, facts haunting his brain as he watched Schlatt's return and the Vigilante, Theseus, come into the spot light. He could only watch with an oncoming sense of dread.
He glanced over to his window, the city night lights casting long, gaping shadows across the room. The city he had lived in as a child was long gone now, the one where he could run freely. One where he didn't need to fear for his safety against Schlatt, one where Vigilantes were not condemned, but praised as friends of the Hero Commission. That was all gone now, his freedom and that almost black and white feeling of youth. Now, he was older, and he could only watch from his wheelchair as the Vigilantes were heralded in. Only his thoughts could he truly converse with now, and they only haunted him. Parallels could be drawn, and it didn't look good.
Energy drained, Ryan wheeled his chair around, moving towards his bedroom to get ready for bed. He needed to be up and ready to help them for the test coming up. He could only hope a few of them remembered his lessons when they left College, that they could take his lessons on throughout their lives.
He was only a man crippled with disease, stuck in a wheelchair. Only his words of wisdom for his students could mean any legacy for him, and that would be with them. Other than that, he was just a simple history professor, and there was nothing he could do.
