"do you... like me?"
Nan hao asked the brown haired boy in front of him
It was friday noon, school just ended and they were walking home together. Nan hao asked Shang feng out of the blue like this, and quite casually too like it was their normal conversation everyday.
Shang feng looked at him and was confused, but he was mostly scared that he might lose his only best friend because he was caught, and to think that he was hiding it with all his might. Shang feng had to pull himself together and play it off naturally.
"What are you even talking about? ..i'm not even gay"
Shang feng said with a straight face. But he knew that Nan hao already knows, his distorted face already gave it away.
"Is this a prank? it's not even funny, try a better joke next time." Shang feng tried to make it seem like he couldn't care less. Like his chest isn't going to explode the next minute.
"I..."
Nan hao hesitated before speaking again
"Yeah...how could you like someone like me anyway" Nan hao said with an uneasy tone, like he wanted to say something else.
"yeah man, that's so gross haha"
Shang feng knew it was over, they might not speak to each other again tomorrow. He was uneasy. Shang feng was aware that this situation would happen in the future, that his secret would eventually come out and he couldn't do anything about it.
After a few minutes of walking home together. Shang feng broke the icy tension and spoke to him. He doesn't care anymore.
"Just say it."
"W-what?"
"Say what's on your mind. We're bestfriends right? we don't keep secrets" Shang feng smiled at him but his eyes said otherwise.
“I...i know that, but.. if i did say something, you would think that i’m being delusional”
Nan hao’s still being hesitant when i know damn well what he’s talking about. Just say that i’m a disgusting gay that’s been crushing over you since we were in middle school. Say that i’m a desperate guy hoping for a chance when you already have someone you like.
...you know what? i don’t care anymore.
“yeah, i like you.... i do.” Shang feng said again
Nan hao suddenly stopped, Shang feng turned displaying his expressionless face
“What?”
Shang feng couldn’t figure out if nan hao was shocked, scared or terrified from the current look he’s giving right now.
