Work Text:
“Can you believe it?” Nathaniel murmured to Marc, tapping his fingers on his lap, “One of our favorite comic writers offered us an internship. In New York , of all places.” He giggled, “It feels like a dream.”
Marc reached over to Nathaniel’s cheek, pinching it gently as his boyfriend protested. “Not a dream,” Marc commented, letting go with a smile. Nathaniel pouted as he rubbed the sore spot.
“Damn, hurting me on a plane? Bad luck.”
“That’s not even a common superstition.”
Nathaniel wiped a fake tear out of his eye, “It is to me, babe. You invalidating my beliefs?” Marc simply flicked his finger on his forehead, rolling his eyes fondly.
“I swear if you act like this in front of him-”
Nathaniel smiled, “Of course not, babe, I’m not gonna make us lose our internship.” He paused,, “Internship. We actually did it! We’re getting an internship in another country! Wow, it just kicked in for me.”
“I know this is an internship, but it totally feels like a vacation,” Marc mumbled.
Nathaniel hummed, snuggling closer to his boyfriend, interlocking their fingers over the armrest, “Hey, at least we won’t be attacked by villains again.”
They jolted as the plane started shaking. A voice from outside started boasting about how they were here to take over.
“Goddamnit, Nath,” Marc immediately said.
“Sorry,” The artist apologized, before muttering under his breath, “If I had a nickel for every time I was on a plane to New York that got hijacked.”

Despite the mishap with the villain earlier (and really, they should be more concerned with how nonchalant they had gotten), they made it to New York safe and sound.
There had been a small moment of Nathaniel being concerned since his English wasn’t that good, but apparently their employer knew French! They had a good laugh over that.
Nathaniel and Marc were allowed to stay at his house for the duration of their internship. It was near a beach so they asked to go see it since they didn’t get to go to beaches often. He allowed them and they ran off.
The two boys walked onto the sand, looking around at the sunset lighting the mostly empty beach up.
“Hey, come on, let’s go in the water!” Nathaniel cheered with a smile.
“We don’t have swimsuits though.”
“Pff, we’re wearing shorts, we can just stand in the shallow end, come on!”
Marc squeaked as Nathaniel grabbed his hands and pulled him towards the water, having to sprint to keep up with the redhead’s speed. The waves splashed around their legs as they entered the water.
It didn’t take long before they were splashing water at each other, just excited to be in a new place with each other. Eventually, they calmed down, giggling subsiding.
“I still can’t believe this isn’t a dream,” Nathaniel softly said after a few seconds, looking at the sun in the distance. “Because this was always something I dreamed of. To have a successful comic. I never thought I'd be able to do it though. Because dreams don't really come true.”
Marc stayed silent, letting Nathaniel talk, although he walked through the water to hold his hand. The artist squeezed it, rubbing a thumb over the glove.
Nathaniel smiled, turning to Marc with a fond look on his face, “Thanks for helping me live it.”
Marc couldn’t speak.
The sun’s orange rays reflected off the water, Nathaniel’s eyes sparkling with the light, a soft grin on his face.
“Beautiful.”
“Marc?”
The writer waded through the water, cupping Nathaniel’s face in his hands before bringing him in for a kiss. He pulled back, adoration pumping through his entire body.
“This was my dream too,” Marc murmured.
“Our comic?”
He smiled, shaking his head, tilting his head so their foreheads were touching, “Being here with you.”
Nathaniel blushed, wrapping his arms around Marc's shoulders. “You’re so sappy sometimes.”
“Like you weren’t the one who had a whole romcom monologue just then?”
Nathaniel shoved Marc over into the water.
