“So, how did you two meet?” She was bitter and was trying so hard to cover that fact. Her tight grip on the glass said as much.
Her red dress was almost the same design as your blue dress. It did make you wonder if this was planned.
Steve laughed so real and that laugh was accompanied by a casual comment on the fact that he met you through Sam. And went on talking about some really romantic scenes on your meeting which made you zone out for a whole minute.
You wished that was how it went. But that was just some bullshit Steve was sprouting.
He was telling the truth when he said you guys met through Sam. And yes, it did develop into a relationship of great friends. It never really stopped your one-sided feelings that developed slowly over a period of two years.
You couldn’t blame him for those desperate feelings.
Steve Rogers was naturally a kind man from his heart. He wasn’t just being nice to only you.
Though you did wish that was the case sometimes.
And no one but Sam knew how excited you were to being asked out to by Steve.
You thought it was a date but sadly it was not.
It was very apparent when her girlfriends were glaring at you so viciously as if you had destroyed their possessions but the her in question had eyes full of unshed tears.
It wasn’t long before you were whisked away to dance with Steve.
Which you were not ready for.
It was not like you didn’t practice how you would dance with him but it had been hours since you came here and he hadn’t danced with you yet.
But now he wanted to do that. Because of her.
To make her jealous? to make her insecure? or numb? you weren’t sure but that was some of your feelings at the moment.
He would glance at her every now and then. Taking in her reaction.
“So how was the party?” Sam dropped in right next to you. He glanced around the room for Steve, “Where is Steve anyway?”
“He left for the washroom.” No, he actually ditched you under that excuse cause you were sure he was with her. She wasn’t in the room anymore too.
Sam was truly convinced that you were happy and enjoying the party when he left to bother Barnes. It wasn’t like he was sober enough to notice how you were one second away from making a mess of your perfectly done makeup.
And that night, you did eventually fall asleep.
Actually, you were always good at falling asleep especially when you were distressed.
And the memory of the horrible event did not bother you for a whole minute.
Then it all wore you down like a terrible hangover.
You were sure Steve was at least worried about you leaving on him.
But there wasn’t a single message on your phone.
He just wanted to get back together with her
He could have told you of his plans to not get your hope up.
