Chapter Text
"It needs to be perfect, Clint,"
He rolled his eyes at his best friend.
"50 years from now when you're both old and spending time with your grandkids, it won't matter how you proposed to her; it only matters that you did it,"
"But it's Y/N I need it to be perfect!"
He sighed.
"She loves you, anything you do will be perfect,"
She scoffed at him, continuing to pace again.
"I didn't have a grand proposal to Laura, and we're just fine. You're overthinking this, Nat,"
She burst into sarcastic laughter, remembering the day she heard about their engagement all those years ago.
"Your proposal was shit, Clint, it's a wonder she even married you,"
"Hey! It was not shit! Besides, you can't say anything considering that we have three kids now. If you think about it, that just proves my point that it doesn't matter how you ask,"
"You didn't even get down on one knee! You just pulled out a ring and said, 'you wanna?' It's a fucking miracle you have three kids at this point,"
He glared at her,
"She liked the simplicity of it!"
She laughed again, then eventually let out a sigh.
The truth was, whether she did a simple or a grand proposal, she needed to do it soon; she loved you too much to wait any longer.
-
Meanwhile, you were currently freaking out to Carol.
"WHAT IF SHE DOESN'T LIKE THE RING, CAROL? SHE NEEDS TO LIKE THE RING!"
"Chill. She's gonna like the ring,"
"BUT WHAT IF SHE DOESN'T?"
She sighed, letting a long, deep, slow breath out.
"Y/N."
You looked at her, squeezing your hands as you continued stressing.
You wanted your proposal to your girlfriend of five years to be perfect, and it had to start with the perfect ring.
"Do you think she'll say yes?"
Carol scoffed,
"Of course she will, that woman loves you more than anything."
You smiled, thinking about the redhead.
~
It was on your four month anniversary that you realized you loved her. You were walking through the park, hand-in-hand.
"Detka, I can literally feel you shivering. Are you sure you don't want to head back?"
"No, I wanna stay out here with you! I promised we would watch the meteor shower tonight, so that's what we're going to do!"
"It's not going to be fun for you if you're cold,"
"I'll be fine,"
Natasha sighed, letting go of your hand. You pouted, but quickly turned your head to the side as she took off her jacket.
Your heart melted as she put it over you without another thought.
"But what about you? Won't you be cold too?"
"I don't get cold. Besides, even if I did then I'd just hold you close and share body heat. Then you'd keep me warm,"
You smiled, pressing your lips against hers as you wrapped your arms around her neck.
"Your lips are still cold," she said, rubbing her thumb along your cheek.
"Well then by all means, continue warming them up."
Later that night, you lay with your head on her chest as you watched the shooting stars above.
"Natty?" You started. She hummed in response, playing with your hair. "Did you make a wish for the stars?"
"I never saw the point in making a wish on a rock falling through the atmosphere,"
"Oh... well I still made a wish,"
"Really? What did you wish for, detka?"
"To be with you forever," you said, rolling over so you were laying on top of her now. "I love you."
She couldn't help but break into a smile at your words.
She tucked a strand of hair behind your ear, then pulled you down so she could kiss you. It wasn't rough, but there was so much passion as she softly moved her lips against yours.
"I love you too."
~
And now, here you were, ready to marry the woman of your dreams. Your wish that night had definitely come true, and you were planning on being with her forever.
So here you stood, trying to figure out how you would propose to her.
Carol let out another sigh as she watched you freak out. She had been there for you through your entire relationship.
She was the first person you told when you started developing feelings for the redhead, and it certainly didn't take long for you to come running into her room, squealing with joy as you told her that Natasha asked you out.
She was overjoyed for you, listening as you told her each and every detail.
Of course, she had no hesitation when it came to giving the best friend speech. As soon as you became Natasha's official girlfriend, Carol cornered her immediately.
She gave a lengthy speech about how much she cared for you and wanted you to be happy, and promised Natasha that if she ever hurt you, it wouldn't be pretty.
Natasha of course, understood and told your best friend that she had no intentions of hurting you. She really liked you, and was incredibly happy to be dating you. She'd hate herself if she did something that resulted in you getting hurt.
Carol seemed satisfied with this, so she decided that your girlfriend had the best friend approval.
After watching your relationship progress over the last few years, she knew you were perfect for each other. All that was left now, was getting to that next step.
Little did you know that she was struggling with the same thing.
-
"Y/N! Come in, you are always welcome here! But I do need to ask why you are here without my daughter?"
"I'll get to that in a minute," you said to Melina.
She shrugged, then motioned for you to follow her.
You wanted to do this with her entire family, so you texted Yelena and told her that it was important for her to come too, but she couldn't tell Natasha.
Now, the three of them sat on the couch in confusion.
You took in a deep breath, holding your hand over your heart as you prepared yourself.
"I love Natasha so much," you began. "I'm so grateful she's apart of my life, and I'm even more grateful to have been able to call her my girlfriend for the last five years."
Alexei gave you a questioning look, but none of them stopped you.
"Right, well um, I've been thinking about this, and I'd like to take the next step with her. I want to marry Natasha,"
Melina let out a long exhale, thinking about what you just said. She turned to Alexei and Yelena, trying to see what they were thinking.
"Natasha loves you," Yelena said. "Like, really loves you. I don't understand why you didn't get married years ago. I've never truly understood romance, but I know the love between you and my sister is very strong and you make her happy."
You smiled at your future sister-in-law.
"I agree!" Alexei piped in. "She's happier than she's ever been with you. She's gone soft for you... which I would normally not approve of, but she's stronger because of you as well."
"Natasha trusts you, and so do I. She's told us how much she loves you, and I believe you love her just as much. I think you should marry her,"
Your heart melted at the words of your future in-laws.
"So I have everyone's blessing then?"
"Yes, you do." Melina told you.
"Yes, you better marry my daughter now!"
"I already see you as my sister, now you just need to make it official so you can be my sister-in-law."
You hugged all of them, smiling brightly. The only thing you had left to do was ask the love of your life to marry you.
-
"Carol," Natasha started. "There's something I wanna do, but it doesn't feel right to do it without talking to you first,"
"Go on,"
Your girlfriend took a deep breath in, then began to walk in circles around the living room as Carol sat on the couch.
"I know how protective you are of Y/N, and I admire that-" she started, but got cut off.
"Y/N is my sister. Maybe not by blood, but I will protect her with my last breath."
Natasha smiled at her, then continued on.
"Over the past five years, I've grown so much as a person. I love her so much, and I don't know where I would be without her. She's my everything,"
Carol turned her head to the side, trying to think about where she was going with this.
"Because I know how much you love and care for her too, I thought it only right to talk to you..." she took another deep breath in. "I want to marry her, Carol. I want to marry your sister,"
Carol nearly choked on her own spit. She thought about how you had been stressing over proposing to her, meanwhile she was planning on proposing too.
But, she couldn't say anything, so she simply nodded.
"Yes," she got out. "Yes, you have my blessing to propose to her,"
Natasha smiled again. Luckily, she was too happy to see the emotions on Carol's face.
This was going to be a disaster.
-
Two weeks later, you were currently making out with your girlfriend on the couch. You had suggested tonight as a date night, which she quickly agreed to. She wanted to take you near a lake, spend some time alone together before she asked the big question. You however, wanted to take her on a walk in the same park you said your first 'I love you' to one another.
Since neither of you could agree on where to go, you decided to kiss her to try to convince her, and she was hoping it would have the same effect on you. So, one thing led to another and now neither of you could get your hands off each other as she began covering your neck with hickeys.
You ran your hands up and down her sides as she kept her lips on your skin. After she had left quite a few marks on you, she brought her lips back to yours and quickly entered her tongue into your mouth.
Things got more and more heated as time went on, and eventually you realized you'd never be able to take her out and propose.
So, as much as you didn't want to, you eventually leaned your head away, gently pushing her away from you.
"Later," you told her. "It's supposed to be date night,"
She sighed, knowing you were right.
"How about we flip a coin and then decide where to go, okay?" You suggested. She nodded, keeping her gaze on your lips.
You noticed this, then leaned in and gave her a quick peck. As much as you wanted to kiss her like you just had been, now was not the time.
"Heads is my suggestion, tails is yours," she said, which you nodded in response.
She got up, walking over to the counter and grabbing a quarter. She tossed it into the air, then flipped it over as she caught it.
"Heads,"
"Nuh-uh, let me see it!"
"It's heads!"
"Natasha!"
She sighed at the use of her full name. Reluctantly, she opened her hand and allowed you to see it.
It was tails.
"Natty!" You scolded, pouting.
She sighed,
"Alright, fine, we can go to where you wanted,"
"Good!"
So, resisting the urge to kiss her again as you connected your hands, the two of you walked out and made your way to the very same park you confessed your love for the first time.
-
"You know how much I love you, right?" She asked, leaning into your side as you walked through the park, still holding hands.
You nodded, squeezing her hand as she continued.
"I love everything about you; I love your little grin you do when something good happens, I love the way you're passionate about everything you do, I love just how much you care about everyone. My life's better because of you. I love you because you're you, Y/N,"
Your heart melted at her words, and you nearly started crying.
"Natty,"
She noticed this, so she leaned in and wrapped her arms around you. Hugging her tightly, you began to think about what you needed to say to her.
"And you also know how much I love you, right?" You said, feeling her nod on the side of your head.
"Well that's good, cuz I really, really love you, Nat,"
"Y/N, there's something I need to do," she told you.
Before you could say anything, she pulled away from you, then took a few deep breaths.
You hardly realized what was happening until your girlfriend was down on one knee in front of you.
"You're the love of my life, and I want to cherish every moment together. I never thought I would get to this point with someone, but I want everything and more with you. I'm so grateful for everything we've done together, and now I can't wait to do even more with you, but as your wife... so, Y/N M/N L/N, will you marry me?"
You definitely weren't expecting that from her tonight.
Your jaw hung open as tears swelled in your eyes from her words.
Just as you were about to crash your lips into hers before saying yes, you remembered the ring that was currently in your back pocket.
"No! Oh come on!"
She was taken aback by your response, her face instantly dropping.
"Oh, no, no, no, no, no! I mean, yes! As in yes I'll marry you!" You said.
She was even more confused now.
You sighed, then reached into your pocket. You held the box out, giving a pout.
"Damn it, I wanted to be the first one to propose,"
She laughed, realizing what was happening.
"Well, get down here with me and ask then,"
You laughed, then did just that.
Now, you were the one on one knee as she stood above you,
"Y'know I love seeing your green eyes first thing when I wake up, I love having you as my last thought before I fall asleep. You're the best thing that's ever happened to me, and I want to be with you forever. I've been planning this for awhile, and I talked to your family about it. I want every part of you, and I love every part of you. I love how you've lowered your walls with me, so I get to see your amazing smile that I love so much. But I also love how you're not afraid to say what needs to be said, and you'll never back away from a challenge. The first time we were here together, I wished to be with you forever. Natalia Alianovna Romanoff, will you make my wish come true and marry me?"
Now she was crying too as she got back on the ground with you.
"Of course I will," she said shakily. "God, I love you so much,"
You both got lost in the messy kiss, wet with tears.
When you pulled away for air, your fiancé grabbed your wrist. With a shaky hand, she put the ring she had gotten for you on your finger.
"It's beautiful, Natty,"
She pressed a quick kiss onto your cheek as you admired it.
Before you could reconnect your lips, you took the ring you got for her, and slid it onto her finger.
"Oh my god, Y/N/N," she said as more tears fell. "I love it; and I love you,"
Both of you leaned in at the same time, melting into the kiss.
"I love you so much,"
"I can't wait to marry you,"
Turns out, wishing on a rock falling into the atmosphere wasn't such a bad idea at all.
-
Soon enough, all your wishes came true and you were married to the love of your life. She was your forever, and you were hers.
