Work Text:

The sun had just risen, soft streaks of morning light were making their way through the window shades. Hizashi knew he would have to get up soon to do some work on his radio show. It wasn’t particularly hard work. He didn’t really record so early in the morning, his voice was always rough with sleep. Unfortunately, the paperwork did have a tendency to pile up. Better to get to it now than have it wait. It was Hizashi’s least favorite part of the job, but a necessary one nonetheless.

Hizashi motioned to get up but realized it was difficult to move. His arms were both pined by two clinging partners. He looked over at where he was in relation to Sho and Oboro planning his route of escape. Most mornings saw Hizashi figuring out the best game plan to get out of the human pretzel situation he found himself in.  Although it brought him happiness, it was always an interesting beginning to the day to see where all three of them had ended up.

They could all be wiggle worms in their sleep Since they all were fine with touch the night before, this morning, much like many others, led to a pile of love and limbs. All illuminated in the warm light of morning. Today seemed like it was Shota’s turn to ensnare him in his grasp.

Hizashi had spent a moment scooting out from the steel-like grip Shota had on his waist. Shota had a habit of seeking Hizashi’s warmth out on cold nights. Usually, Hizashi loved this development, he loved being a source of comfort, knowing that the people he trusted could depend on him in return. It was less wanted when he had to leave the safety and comfort of their bed. Especially for something as trivial as work.

He gave a last look at Shota’s face, inches away from the patch of sun. When he was sleeping seemed to be the only time Shota seemed to relax. Peaceful in the light of the sun’s rays. If they shone any closer would wake his sleeping beauty. Luckily, it was far enough away and Shota could stay sound asleep.

The same couldn’t be said for the other cuddle bug in their group, just the small act of trying to separate had Hizashi realize there was another arm hanging tightly to him. He gave another tug causing Oboro to try and cling even more tightly. Hizashi softly used his now free hand to pull his other arm out of Oboro’s grasp. He tried to be as gentle as he could, Oboro always woke so easily.

Hizashi thought he was successful but a look at Oboro’s face told him otherwise. It was scrunched up in obvious displeasure. Their hand hit around on the bed for where Hizashi was last, he was afraid for a moment that Oboro would hit Shota in their search. Hizashi reached out a hand to lightly caress Oboro’s searching one, it did the trick and Oboro went still. Hizashi smiled to himself before pulling away. He stood up to walk away but there was movement on the bed as Oboro stirred. Still blinking into existence, brilliant blue eyes met golden and Hizashi’s smile was returned with crooked teeth.

Oboro reached up to him, softly trying to grab on to Hizashi’s hovering hand, batting away like a cat who lost his favorite toy. Hizashi took a small bit of pleasure in messing with them. He stretched his arm closer to his loves, now almost directly above soft light blue hair. Oboro, financially within grabbing distance had tried to latch on, but at the last second Hizashi moved his arm away, just out of reach.

The cute pout he got in return was worth it. Oboro looked adorably off-put as if Hizashi had stolen his kitten. Bottom lip slightly overlapping the front, Hizashi had a sudden urge to kiss the mock frown away. Did he have time? It was a lazy day, paperwork could wait for a moment, Hizashi should be able to do what he wanted at least for a minute or two.

Oboro must have caught on to his thoughts, giving a big goofy grin and reaching for Hizashi once again. He had decided he teased enough, Hizashi bent down and their lips met in a soft collision. Hizashi swears there’s always fireworks.

Hizashi loved kissing Oboro. If he was more partial to clichés he would say it was like being on Cloud 9. Oboro’s kisses were full of life. It spoke promises of laughter and smiles. Of date nights in the sky. Puns and jokes, quips that made milk come out of noses, which only spurred on more laughter as they hung off each other.

Kisses between them had energized history. Training sessions were filled with a whirlwind of exhilaration. They were constantly pulling each other higher and faster. Racing and climbing, up so high just waiting for the fall. Like the thrill of a rollercoaster, knowing that life was speeding by like a bullet. Turning every which way, unsure of where the ending would leave. It was exhilarating and nerve-wracking.

He had his doubts in the beginning.

They both had large personalities, big and open and carefree. Hizashi was afraid one of them would outshine the other and they’d be done. It had taken far too long for him to learn that they could both shine brightly together.

None of that power and energy had gone down in the years following. But it didn’t scare Hizashi anymore, if anything he accepted the insanity full willingly. Now insanity was less anxiety-inducing. The only concerns of adrenaline were the wind blowing through his hair and his heart pounding. Hizashi would kiss Oboro forever if it meant just feeling a slice of that high for another minute more.

He must have gotten lost in the kiss as he got startled from a little laugh behind them. Hizashi looked up and met eyes with Shota who had a smug grin on his face.

Shota gave him a slow “come here”, and well, Hizashi had already indulged one of his loves today. He slowly crept over to Shota, slightly hovering over Oboro who had laid back down with a laid-back smile. Hizashi was inches away from Shota’s face, as sleepy as it was satisfied, the whole framed by soft black stands. Hizashi had battered down the urge to run his hands through them. He knew if he did there was no hope of getting work done. Shota seemed to have a different idea as he softly cupped his cheek, Hizashi was slightly obsessed with the way the callouses scraped across his soft cheeks. Shota brought Hizashi’s face ever closer until they connected.

If kissing Oboro was like flying on the clouds then kissing Shota was like laying on the soft ground. It spoke promises of security.

Shota was the strong rock in their relationship. If Hizashi or Oboro ever got too in their heads, too high in the air above. Shota would guide them down gently. The panic attacks always rough in nature, that would leave either one or both of the more excitable individuals incapacitated; Shota would be there with comfort and understanding.

He wasn’t always the best with words, not as skilled a verbal charmer as the other two. Shota more often than not preferred actually not speaking. He had moments where he found it hard to voice things. Shota would always try and apologize after the fact, despite Oboro and Hizashi both assuring him that it was more than okay. Encouraged him to communicate i whatever way he felt most comfortable.

They never knew why it bothered him so much until one day they had sat down and talked about it. Shota had barely gotten the reason out through shaky words and a trembling voice. He didn’t know how to give comfort to either of them if he didn’t speak it.

But, as they told him, Shota always gave comfort in other ways. Ways that made them both so happy. A nice warm cup of tea for Oboro, soft rubbing up and down his arms for Hizashi. These were just two of many examples of all the ways Shota silently cared for them. It’s just how he was.

Shota also hated the spotlight. Or really any attention that was on him. Hizashi always found it ironic that that he found himself surrounded by people who did. It was a good matchup. When Hizashi and Oboro got lost in the sights and sounds of fantasy, Shota was always reality. Not drastic or foreboding but a comforting place to return to. Like coming home.

Hizashi softly let their lips fall apart, pulling back and meeting Shota’s eyes. Still sleepy but full of strong love. Grounding and security. Shota was both of their anchors.

Oboro looked over at Shota with a mischievous look, “My turn,” Oboro said with that gravely just woken up voice. Hizashi could drown in the sound. Oboro pulled Shota from where he sat and into his lap before descending on his lips.

Hizashi could let himself giggle at the indignant noise Shota let out. For all his squabbling Shota was all too quick to meet Oboro’s lips and melt into his arms.

Hizashi remembered making a comment during training at the beginning of their third year. Oboro had just gotten done taking down a classmate during a sparring match. Standing tall with a wide smile, he looked like a straight-up Adonis.

No one could blame Hizashi for turning to a still repressed black-haired friend about wanting to climb Oboro like a tree. Shota had made a choking noise and had avoided both of them for the rest of the day. The bright red blush that had adorned Shota’s face when he looked their way had made him fall just a little further in love. Shota still held on to many reserved parts of himself but he had opened up considerably since the start of their relationship.

It saddened him to think back that he also had doubts in the beginning about Shota as well, although those concerns mainly revolved about how all three would work together.

Even before the romance, when they were just dumb kids discussing a dream, there was the question of how long it would last. Past Hizashi could eat his words as he would stare in awe at what they were able to create.

A dream now coming to fruition, or, more accurately, on its way to be.

They were now adults, adults with actual jobs. They had all been signed on to agencies, not all together but it was enough of a starting point to get them on their feet and financially secure.

All their respective workplaces knew their positions were temporary. They all had gone to agencies that had good track records of heroes going solo later on. So for now they were a bit separated. But Hizashi’s mind kept thinking, they wouldn’t be for much longer.

Hizashi scanned the room looking over from where Shota and Oboro were, both engrossed in each other’s mouths oblivious to the world. Hizashi’s eyes focused across the room at the corkboard that was hung over a ratty couch. The old couch that had been taken from the side of the road.

Hizashi looked back on that memory with fondness. He remembered how Aizawa had kept telling them it wasn’t going to fit in the way Oboro and Hizashi wanted. They hadn’t really listened until they were stuck with Oboro, bless his long legs and killer grip strength, in the back seat holding on to the edge of the couch for dear life. Shota, who was designated by the other two was never driving again, had been speeding. His logic was that they would get home sooner. Hizashi was pretty sure. But in all honesty, screaming the entire time.

Hizashi was proud of it. Now their worn couch was a few feet away. It was a studio, after all, they didn’t have the luxury of different rooms. Above their couch hung a corkboard, it had initially been made of small snippets of “things that would be neat to have at an agency” and the combo moves they had made that involved all three. Now, nearly three years later it had become an actual plan, budget goals in mind, plans for what paperwork needed to be filled out and how, and timelines for when it would all be complete.

It did knock their kid naivety to the ground when they had begun their research, but now they were on their way to having it. Hizashi on some days felt like he was so close to reaching out and touching it.

Hizashi felt a soft jab on each side, it had only startled him a little. He turned and saw Shota and Oboro, paused from their make-out session staring at him. As if their minds were connected they both grabbed an arm and Hizashi could feel himself fall onto the bed, careful to not jab either of them with his elbows. Though there wasn’t much place for them to land.

He didn’t know why they didn’t agree on a bigger bed. Shota and Hizashi always had to half use Oboro as their own sleeping area when they settled in for the night. Oboro made the most sense to be the bottom in their pile, with the broad shoulders Hizashi loved to caress. Hizashi was usually next in their pile. A living space heater in himself. Shota always liked being the most on the outside, sometimes the pressure of their bodies was too much, or the sheets felt too scratchy. He liked the option to leave suddenly. Today must have been a good sensory day as Shota looked content to not move. As lovely as it was, Hizashi had duties to fulfill.

“You know I have paperwork” he grumbled out, giving a small shove to both their sides. Although there wasn’t any heat or any real effort put into moving them off.

Oboro just gave a little wave back and forth with his hand. “Eh paperwork, shmaperwork” and settled a little more on the bed.

Shota flung an arm around both Hizashi and Oboro. “They’re right, it can wait” The fact that Shota was trying to speak this early in the morning, even without a third cup of coffee for the day spoke volumes.

“Shota’s right, just a little while longer”, Hizashi more heard the rumble Oboro’s chest rather than actually registering the words through his ears.

It was terribly tempting. “Just for a few minutes” Hizashi replied. He could hear the contented sighs around him. Drama queens. Honestly.

As Hizashi settled a little easier on top of Oboro’s chest, softly linking his hands up with Shota’s, he could honestly say he felt content. It was softer than any blanket and warmer than any heater. Hizashi let his eyelids fall. The paperwork could wait.
