Work Text:
There was blood, so much goddamn blood. Chuuya wasn’t yelling, wasn't shouting back a witty remark at Dazai’s taunts, he was still. Barely even breathing.
It was Mori’s fault, it had to be. If it wasn’t Mori’s fault for not sending in reinforcements, then it would Dazai’s. It would be Dazai’s fault because he didn’t pick up the phone, he didn't listen to the voicemail until hours later, and because of that he was hours late. His best friend, lover roomate wouldn’t be dying in his arms if he had just picked up the goddamn phone.
Chuuya’s eyelids fluttered, struggling to open as his body fought to keep him asleep, trying to heal his broken and battered body, even as the pool of blood under him grew larger and larger.
“Hey, hey look at me, Chuuya it’s gonna be okay. I just called Yosano, she’s nearly here-” Dazai spoke softly, his voice wavering.
Chuuya coughed, and struggled slightly against Dazai’s arms before letting out a pained gasp and going still, his breaths somehow more shallow and farther apart than before, a terrible rattling sound emitting every time he took a breath.
“Chuuya please, just stay with me for a little longer, Yosano will be here in just a few minutes, hold on for just a while longer” Dazai pleaded, praying to any god that would listen to give Chuuya even just a few minutes longer.
“C’mon you can’t die on me, we haven’t finished that stupid romcom yet, I can’t watch it without you”
Chuuya went still, his pulse dropping to zero.
“Chuuya-, CHUUYA, wake up, please, you can’t, you can’t go-” tears were flowing freely down Dazai’s face as he cradled Chuuya in his arms.
“Chuuya you can’t leave me, I-“ Dazai stumbled over the words, sobs ripping out of his chest. “I haven’t gotten to tell you that I love you yet”
