Work Text:
“Inupi what are you doing?” Hajime asks as he takes a peak from Seishu’s shoulder.
Seishu doesn’t reply as he stays focused on finishing the craft he had been making with some things he found laying around their hideout. Hajime would usually ignore Seishu and just continue reading his book, however Seishu has been silent for longer than usual.
“Give me your hand,” Seishu askes as Hajime obliges and gives his hand to Seishu.
Seishu takes one of the craft he made, which turns out to be a ring and slides it on Hajime’s ring finger. Hajime’s face began to turn red as he was taken aback by this.
“Eh?! Inupi- You- Shouldn’t you ask me before you try to marry me?!”
“Oh right, forgot about that part…” Seishu chuckles but he doesn’t continue. He knew that Hajime wasn’t one to prefer words over actions.
Once he’s done he grabs the other ring which was made for himself and passes it to Hajime. “It’s your turn,” he smiles.
Hajime sighs as he grabs onto the rings and holds onto Seishu’s hand before putting the ring onto Seishu’s ring finger as well. “There… I guess this is the time we kiss or something..?” Hajime jokes.
Seishu however takes it a little seriously and places a kiss onto Hajime’s lips. Just like how the latter did when they were in the library. “Fuck you..” Hajime mutters under his breath.
During this entire ordeal Hajime never questioned why Seishu made those rings. Hajime would have just suggested they’d get shinier and prettier rings. However he loves the fact that the ones he wore were handmade.
“I’ll be going my own way now,” Hajime says as he places a hand on Seishu’s shoulder. His hand still had the ring Seishu made a few years back.
“I can’t support you anymore.. So don’t end up going on the wrong path alright?” Hajime grins as he sticks his tongue out.
“Guess it’s farewell.”
“Yeah.. Thanks for everything Koko.”
“..Dumbass.. Likewise.”
The two exchanged their final goodbyes before walking in the opposite direction. The rings still on both of their hands, a silent “Till death do us part” was exchanged. Not vocally, but through their thoughts and emotions.
It was then when Hajime realized the true meaning of the ring he wore. It was a promise that no matter what they’d stick together forever. Even though Hajime had just broken the promise by leaving, he didn't take off the ring.
It’s new meaning to Hajime was a promise that no matter what they’d keep each other in their memory and hopefully reunite one day. Even if they couldn’t be by each other’s side anymore, he hopes the ring would symbolise how the other is still there in spirit.
Even after 12 years, Hajime and Seishu still wore their rings. They’d take it off occasionally during work but still kept it close by. When it got too big for Seishu’s finger he turned it into a necklace instead, it still fit Hajime’s finger though, his stature hasn’t changed much over the years.
“You know, I’m always curious why you still wear that old handmade ring. Aren’t we rich as hell? Why don’t you just get some fancy one,” Haruchiyo comments as Hajime rolls his eyes.
“It’s the sentimental value that’s important,” Hajime says as Haruchiuo laughs. The Hajime now never seem to be attached to people or objects like he did in the past, the ring and Seishu Inui are the only thing he holds onto.
“Whatever you say,” Haruchiyo says before walking away. He was probably going to annoy Rindou again, Hajime couldn’t care less though.
Once Haruchiyo leaves, Hajime begins to stare at the ring on his hand again. He places a kiss on the ring as he begins to get lost in his thoughts again.
“I’ll see you again one day Sei..”
