Kurain Village: Remembered and Reformed

"Kurain Village is back!" That's what Free Kurain activists have announced as Kurain Village has experienced a steady rise in its population in the ten years since Master Maya Fey implemented her reforms. Mayoress Demi Kravitz welcomed the news, stating "This shows that spirit channeling techniques of all types are regaining interest among a more progressive and open-minded demographic."
The population, as recorded in the Census of Japanifornia, includes paranormal students, Khura'inese-Americans and disciples of the Kura'inese Folk Religion. Professor Archibald Enfield, an expert of Khura'inese-American history, sees this as a significant event for the enclave.
"Some residents of the village felt unsafe under the leadership of Morgan Fey," said Enfield, "and they decided to move away from the village and hide themselves from the public in a bid to keep safe from the tyranny their ancestors wanted to escape from.
"What didn't help," he continued, "was that other residents were relocated by the Japanifornia State Government following the imprisonment of Morgan and the murder of who turned out to be Misty Fey. This made the village empty and desolate, leaving Maya and Pearl to be the only mediums in the village at the time."
Maya's reforms, implemented in 2035, ensured the village would return to its heyday as a safehaven for all spirit mediums in America and around the world. And they have proven popular with 87% of all the Village's residents. But some say there is a long way to go.
"The village nearly died because of mainstream discrimination," said an anonymous activist, "and whilst Maya's reforms are a huge step forward in terms of its stability as a safehaven, I believe that the government should take steps to ensure that we are treated as normal people."
Tours of Kurain Village will open from June to September, as a way to "educate citizens of America of the legitimacy of Spirit Channelling."
