Chapter 1: A disorienting calm
Chapter Text
A lazy afternoon sunbeam peaks through the grime of the bookshop window and caresses across the high plies of books.
Aziraphale peered over his second addition Jane Eyer, a comfort read with well thumbed and well loved pages. Unfortunately with being so well read Aziraphale could practically resight it word for word, leaving his mind to wander. Thoughts flitted around his mind, trying and failing to not to focas on anxieties and negativaty.
Crawling up the side of the book and onto well manicured fingertips, the sunbeam oozed like treacle drawing his focas down to the contrast light.
Musing on the inherent duality before him, the poetic edges of the soul began to creep up and spiral down.
"My mind has little interference from such a little thing as orbit"
As he considered this errant thought, Crowley sauntered vaguely into his mind and the beloved demons sleep habit.
"It just so happens I try and fail to find peace while lunar cycle rules"
This seemed ironic even to him, given his current mindset.
"Though Sol's reign is no less difficult to bear at times, but rest is not expected while beautiful distractions can be bountiful"
His own beautiful distraction once again strolled along this consciousness with flaming hair, golden eyes and such a kind heart (not that this could be voiced without protest).
"A mesmerising few can blind my mind to to but never for long, tainting the precious few"
Aziraphale startled slightly as the words began to trickle down again. He cast his thoughts back to how much had been painful and was dragged back through the hurtful things tainted by fear (of which there have many).
Inwardly sighing and lamenting to himself.
"Fear spins as the sun brings another day on earth to live for"
Mood sharply descending, eyes were fast filling with tears began to overflow and were wiped away.
Breaking the silence, Aziraphale choked out "Why can the innocent find peace, should not the wicked be restless?"
Slowly he released an morbid chuckle.

Chapter Text
The bell at the the top of the bookshop door rang clear as Crowley strolled in the bookshop with his typically nonchalant style.
Looking around the stacks of books for their elusive collector. Wandering round the shelves his anxiety levels began to creep up in the silence. Rounding the last section seperating the rest of the shop from their secluded hide away his normally sluggish jumped apon the sight of his closest companion with wet cheeks and a strange sad tone to his quiet laughter.
"Angel" he asked tentatively
What's wrong
"Oh nothing much dear just reading a particularly emotional scene"
Crowley rolled his eyes."OK angel if you say so" with an air of obviously I am not believing this and I'm not going to let go of this until I have an answer.
"Well if you must know I was just feeling a little melancholy but much better now your here" He gave a bashful smile.
"Ngk"
Mumbling "Shuttup" he miracled a tissue and gently wiped the last remnants of sorrow from his face.
"Well angel you happen to be in luck because I am found a new art studio owned by a lovely pair of ladies. You can relax and focas while we paint a plate or something"
Glancing over at Aziraphale, he desided to give the temptation its final nudge.
"Oh and by the way they also sell local cake and hot chocolate with the works including the little marshmallows you enjoy so much"
"They are just so small and sweet"
"In both apperance and taste I know angel" he smiled knowingly. Crowley offered his arm with a final "Can I tempt you?"
Given Aziraphale's glowing smile that was the right thing to say as he replied "Always my dear".
Strolling out his thoughts wandered once more but this time to those of a more optimistic nature.
It is important to enjoy this moment as it lasts and preserve it for another such calm afternoon
Notes:
Feedback welcome but constructive criticism only please (or complements which always brighten my day).
Seeing the pitiful word count I also have a whole new respect for authors here as this took over three hours straight on my most creative day in years 😂
