“There is one thing you haven’t tried,” Hyunjin begins as he opens the car door for Seungmin, who carefully settles himself in the passenger seat.
“This is the Sin City, Hyunjin. But I already told you, I’m not engaging in a one night stand,” Seungmin groans, tugging on his tux when he sees Hyunjin smirk as he enters the Mercedes Benz.
Hyunjin rolls his eyes on this, his hands now firmly grasped around the leather wrapped around the steering wheel as he drives away from the brightly lit casino. “I know, I know! It was already difficult enough to drag you over here. Maybe I shouldn’t have, considering my Las Vegan pride is now hurt..” The older dramatically clutches onto his own tux as he recalls how Seungmin won so much tonight. The Californian swats his hand away, murmuring how it would be ruined.
“You’ve shown me your Las Vegan pride the entire day, Hyunjin. You’ve brought me to all these wonderful places and accompanied me to do all these fun things. Thank you.”
“Whatever you want, Minnie.”
Seungmin smiles softly, observing Las Vegas in all its beauty through the window. It’s true, Seungmin hasn’t had that much fun in a long while. He now knows why practically the entire world visits Las Vegas on New Year’s Eve. It felt great to be among the crowd, counting down to the upcoming year. He feels like he’s had more fun tonight than the entire year behind him.
Seungmin swiftly turns his head to the black haired man next to him, who was humming to Auld Lang Syne. “Say, you said there was something you said I have yet to try. We’ve basically done everything and if it isn’t sex, then what is it?”
Hyunjin suddenly coughs furiously, and Seungmin immediately reaches to pat and rub his back.
“Ah.. About that..” Hyunjin chuckles slightly before he nibbles on his lower lip. Seungmin raises an eyebrow, observing Hyunjin’s left hand rubbing his nape sheepishly.
“Well..?”
“On second thought, don’t mind it!” Hyunjin exclaims, tapping his fingers impatiently on the wheel as he waits for the light to turn green.
“Tell me, Hyunjin. I better make the best out of tonight before I get wed off to someone I do not love back in California. All because of money and prestige that I really couldn’t care less about.”
Hyunjin glances at his best friend, who has once again fixed his sight on the view of his window. He’s never seen Seungmin as carefree as he was tonight. Seungmin is anything but impulsive, so when the younger called the day prior that he is coming to Vegas, Hyunjin choked on his own spit. Seungmin carefully budgets his money even when he’s loaded, as his parents own a prominent travel agency in Southern California, much like how Hyunjin’s parents owned a real estate company here in Vegas. They met as teens at a banquet they both found boring, and have been best friends since, despite the distance that separated them after Hyunjin’s family moved to Nevada years later. He loves how his best friend was always so organized and put together, but something in Seungmin tonight made him beautiful. It might be the few sips of champagne Hyunjin had earlier tonight, or the lights highlighting Seungmin’s delicate features.
Not that Hyunjin hasn’t already found Seungmin beautiful before tonight.
And who could say no to playing along with their best friend’s obnoxious plan to run away for a night in frustration after not seeing them in a while? Not Hyunjin. Especially not Hwang Hyunjin, who has been in love with Kim Seungmin since God knows when.
Seungmin nudges his arm by the elbow, signaling that the light has now turned green. Hyunjin steps on the gas, carefully letting the next few words roll off his tongue. He feels Seungmin’s gaze on him. He’s waiting for an answer.
“Well.. There’s that one thing you haven’t done yet.” Hyunjin begins, gulping nervously. “You know that wedding chapel down the boulevard near my place..?”
“Stop the car.”
Hyunjin freezes, but does as he was asked. He refuses to look at Seungmin though, and is now quivering in fear. That tone was deadly.
“Who in the world would I get married to?” Seungmin crosses his arms, waiting for Hyunjin to answer his not so rhetorical question.
“I.. I don’t know?” Hyunjin fiddles with his calloused fingers nervously. “Come to think of it, if you get married now, maybe that could put off your arranged marriage to a much later date!” Hyunjin rambles, hoping Seungmin doesn’t catch on to his intentions.
“Hyunjin.”
Hyunjin still refuses to look Seungmin in the eye.
“Jinnie.”
Not that nickname. Seungmin gets what he wants when he calls Hyunjin by that nickname.
“Yes..?” Hyunjin finally turns to him, but looks elsewhere.
“Look at me.” There is no escape, Seungmin’s cold, slender palms have now sandwiched Hyunjin’s cheeks between them.
Hyunjin does, and up to this point, he has never thought it was possible to feel scared yet relaxed before. Scared, because Seungmin knows him. One look and he knows what’s going through Hyunjin’s head. Relaxed because Seungmin’s touch, Seungmin’s presence, just Seungmin in general, was so comforting.
The younger peers into his eyes, searching for an answer. And he does. Of course he does. His Seungmin knows everything. The Californian’s eyes widen, initially provoking Hyunjin more anxiety. But Seungmin wears the prettiest smile Hyunjin has ever seen, its radiance only amplified by Vegas’ bright lights, and if that isn’t God telling Hyunjin to confess..
“I.. I think I want to marry you, Seungmin.”
And in that moment, Hyunjin felt that he was finally the braver one of them two. Seungmin always had a positive outlook in life no matter the circumstances, and he became a source of Hyunjin’s strength. It felt nice to finally be the braver one.
But Seungmin can be competitive. He regains his title of being the courageous one, as he crashes his lips on Hyunjin’s.
“I love you too, stupid. How about you take me on a date first then we can start building a wedding plan from then on?”
Hyunjin grins. He is nothing but a lovesick fool.
“Whatever you want, Minnie.”
