Work Text:
Rain was pretty rare in California. Days and days of clouds and rain seemed impossible. But they could happen, much to La Luna's dismay as she sat at the large windows in one of the manor's many sitting rooms. She didn’t think she’d ever seen so much rain before. Leaning on her folded arms, she let out a long sigh. It wasn't that she didn't like the rain. It was fine, calming even. But with the rain came clouds that blocked out the sun.
And Soleil wasn't around when there wasn't sun. Normally, she'd charge outside or by the large windows, and they could spend time together. Reading, talking or walking the paths of the manor together. But Soleil was in her sunbed charging and conserving power most of the time. leaving La Luna bored. She wasn’t in there the whole time, but even when she was out, it never felt like it long before she had to go back, panels out and searching for rays that weren’t there.
It felt like the rain would never stop, still wet and dreary when she finally went to power down for the night. Feeling all but pointless to check the weather now, she trudged up to her room to lay in bed and look at the stars. There were no stars in the night sky, but in her room they glowed brightly in her favourite constellations and planets shown in the darkness from her walls and ceiling.
In the morning, she was woken by people cheering downstairs. Cracking open an eye, both shot open quickly when she saw light pouring into her room from the window. The sun was back! Scrambling for the window, she looked out to the grounds below. There was still plenty of mud in the yard, but the trails were mostly clear. Damp with a few stray puddles, but nothing they couldn’t walk around. It was perfect!
Cheering, she grabbed a tank top with a galaxy of stars on it and shorts before rushing down the hall to Soleil's room. She knocked on the door and fidgeted from foot to foot while she waited. When Soleil didn't answer quickly enough, she knocked again. "Soleil! Open up! Let's go for a walk." La Luna was nearly vibrating with excitement.
There was some shuffling, and finally, a somewhat disheveled Soleil opened the door with a hum. "Did it stop raining?"
La Luna nodded her head enough she shook a little. "Mhm! Come on. The paths are dry enough, so we can go for a walk." Taking Soleil's hand, she dragged her out of her room.
Which made the taller bot stumble and fall into the wall with a thud. Soleil leaned against the wall a moment before standing up. Rubbing her head, she checked for dents. "Can I at least get dressed first?" She asked when La Luna finally stopped enough to listen.
A whir and La Luna at least had the mind to look sheepish for dragging her out in her nightclothes. "Sorry. Yeah. I'll meet you downstairs. Just don’t take too long," she warned. Waving her off, La Luna hurried down to meet Soleil by the door leading to the gardens.
Downstairs other bots and even some Walter Workers were taking advantage of the sun’s return. Almost all the windows had someone looking out and the patio was full of bots enjoying the sun on their plating. La Luna couldn’t wait to join them as she stood by the back doorway.
Once Soleil was ready, La Luna took her hand again and guided her outside.
The sun was warm and bright as it shone around them, slowly drying the path. After all the rain there wasn’t as much as a wisp of a cloud in the sky. Just clear blue as far as their optics could see.
Looking up at Soleil, she beamed when she looked up to the sun, her head panels unfurling to catch the rays and make her look like a metal goddess. It seemed they’d both missed this.
La Luna didn't mind the rain, but she'd always love the sun.
