Katsuki refused to say it out loud, but he missed his mom. She'd left for some big meetings in Canada. She'd been gone for a week.
Now, it wasn't to say that he spent every single second thinking about if she was okay and when she would return, but...
He thought about it every other second. He missed her. But no matter how many times she'd gone and come back safe, he couldn't help but spend the whole time she was gone pushing back anxiety.
Separation anxiety is what his father had told him. Katsuki hated that. He hated having this sense of complete dread every waking moment until she returned.
"Bakubro, are you even listening?"
"Nope"
Shitty hair sighed in disappointment, frown marring his face. "You okay man?"
"Why wouldn't I be? I'm not some shitty extra" Katsuki scowled at the red haired teen.
"Bakugou" Aizawa called from the classroom doorway. "I need to speak with you"
Katsuki jumped out if his seat, walking towards the man. His 'friends' teased that he was in trouble. He ignored then, stepping out of the classroom after his teacher. Standing outside the classroom with his teacher, Katsuki frowned. He hadn't done anything worth getting in trouble about.
"Your mother called"
Dread gripped his body. She wasn't coming back, was she? He ignored the way his breath hitched. His teacher continued.
"She said to tell you she'll be staying a few more days"
He couldn't think. A few more days? They'd set a date that she'd be back. She'd never changed it before.
"She's... I don't..." He mumbled out, forgetting how to breathe. "We set a fucking date, why is she...?" Why the hell did she stay back? He couldn't breathe. She wasn't going to come back? No, she said she would! She had to!
"Bakugou" Aizawa's voice reminded him that he was still there, standing in the hallway looking like an damn kid.
"You're lying" He gasped out. "She said– She promised she'd come back"
He couldn't tear his eyes away from his teacher's face, searching for something. Anything that could prove this was a joke. Some ruse to get his hopes down before his mother jumped out from behind the man.
Katsuki's teacher simply stared back, face morphing from surprise to a soft understanding. "She confirmed that she would be returning home sometime this week. Now breathe she's fine"
Katsuki took a deep breath, pushing back his feelings.
"Can I go back to class now?" He quickly said, wiping his face of the panic that churned inside of him. When the man nodded, Katsuki went and returned to his seat.
"Oh Bakugou~" Deuceface sang. "What was that about?"
"None of your business, moron"
The whole rest of the week was torture. He didn't know when his mom was coming back. If she was. Every time the thoughts gripped him he stopped breathing. It wasn't like he didn't want to, he couldn't. She had promised she'd come back. For as long as Katsuki had been old enough to make promises with her she'd never broken one.
So... Why now? Why couldn't she come back on time? Screw the board meetings, wasn't he important too? Was she going to stay away forever until she forgets who he even is?
"Kacchan" Blinking, Katsuki Realized that he was in the locked room. Only Deku stood with him.
"What?" He had been so caught up in his thoughts that somehow everyone else finished and left without him realizing.
"You seem... different. Are you okay?"
"I'm fine you shitty nerd. Worry about yourself" He barked out, walking away. The nerd followed him out to the training ground.
He did horribly. He couldn't focus on training when his mom might not come home.
These thoughts ended up landing him in the bathroom one day. Hands clawing at his shirt as he verbally told himself over and over that she was coming home. Luckily, he had managed to calm himself by the time the break was over and return to class as if nothing had happened.
But something had happened. And Katsuki could tell his classmates knew something was wrong. None of them were brave enough to ask though.
In Friday, there was a knock on the classroom door. Everybody looked between the door and their teacher.
The corner of Aizawa's mouth quirked up. "Bakugou, go answer it"
"Tch. Why me? Make four-eyes do it" He grumbled as he slowly walked to the door. He pulled it open a little freezing when he recognized the wild blonde hair. Slamming the door all the way open Katsuki could only stand there in shock. "Mom?"
She simply smiled, pulling him into the hallway for privacy. "Hi honey"
He dove into her arms. "You promised! You fucking promised!" He choked out. "Why'd you leave!"
Fingers ran through his hair. "You're my brat, I always come back to you"
"Will you stay?" He whispered. She laughed as if he'd asked her something obvious.
"Of course"
