Chapter Text

Eindride had no idea where he was. He should be dead right now, well not dead because the dead stay in Valhalla or Hel, but they were both destroyed.

He clearly remembered it, he remembered seeing Thor slaying Jörmungandr but dying from its venom. He remembered seeing Odin fall to his death at the fangs of Fenrir. He remembered seeing Fenrir swallow the sun. He remembered seeing Surt's fire burning everything in its path and he felt it burning his flesh, then he remembered no more.

He looked around the village he was in and he was reminded of Kattegat when it was just a small village, but this surely couldn't be Kattegat. Kattegat at the moment of his death was the biggest trading center in all of Scandinavia. Even then, the whole world was consumed by Surt's fire, and he doubted that anything survived.

Yet, the more he looked around the more houses and places he recognized. He recognized the Seer's house and went towards it. If this really was Kattegat then the Seer would be there.

Eindride slowly opened the door and stepped inside. To his shock the Seer was there. Eindride looked at him closely to make sure that it wasn't a disguise.

"So you have returned," the Seer said.

Eindride was confused. "What do you mean returned?" he asked.

"We have met before, in a different lifetime," the Seer answered.

"Why am I back?" Eindride asked.

"Because it's your destiny."

"What is happening? Explain now," Eindride's patience was wearing thin.

The Seer just laughed, not at all bothered by the anger in Eindride's voice. "Many lifetimes ago, when Odin first learned of Ragnarok he began to search for knowledge that he could use to stop it. He sacrificed his eye to gain a sip from Mimir's well that granted him immense knowledge."

"He stabbed himself with his own spear and hung himself from Yggdrasil to gain its knowledge. Yet, nothing that he gained could help him stop Ragnarok."

"Odin then decided to choose a champion. A champion who could perhaps gain the knowledge to stop Ragnarok, which he himself couldn't."

"However, his champion could be neither a god nor a normal mortal, so he created his champion himself. He used a branch from Yggdrasil for the bones and his own blood for the blood of his champion."

"He then gave his champion numerous tasks that he had to complete which would help him gain the knowledge that could stop Ragnarok. Each lifetime until the day of Ragnarok when everything would burn the champion had to complete one task."

Eindride did not need to be told who the champion was for he already knew. Himself. "You say that Odin created me as his champion many lifetimes ago, so why is it that I only remember my last life and none other?" he asked.

"That is because you only remember the lifetimes in which you completed the task that you had been given."

That meant that out of the many lifetimes he had already lived, he had only completed the task he had been given in 1 lifetime. Eindride felt disgusted with himself for failing his task so many times and vowed to complete every task from now on.

"What is my task this time?" Eindride asked the Seer.

The Seer was silent for a while and then said, "Your task is to alter the path the threads of life take, yet keep their destination the same."

Notes:

Yet another chapter I'm not proud of.

So, I have been thinking about writing crossovers and I was wondering, would you guys want to read Vikings x Harry Potter? Or Vikings x Lord of The Rings?1
