Work Text:
Some time has passed, much after the fall of mondstadt, the survivors opted to migrate to other nations. Albedo had since chosen to stay in Sumeru, a place for academy. He’s since acclimated to the region. People here aren’t as friendly, but they’ve been welcoming enough. It’s also much hotter than he’s used to, so he’s ditched the warm cloak and has began wearing cooler clothes.
When a breeze passes by, it’s actually become more refreshing, but sometimes it’s chilly. Sometimes, it’s frigid. He’s chalked it up to the cool desert sand or to the fact that he’s not used to this weather yet. There are even times he thinks it’s because his body has gotten used to dragonspine, and it’s just muscle memory. Tonight, however, it’s not the disturbing frigidness he’s used to feeling in the mountains. It’s so cold, yet warm at the same time.
It was a particularly rough night. His experiments hadn’t been going well recently, and the frustration has finally built up. The cold breeze flowed in from an open window, but instead of passing by, it wrapped around him. It circled his waist, touched his ears, pecked his nose, and even his lips. He can’t quite explain it. The breeze had become so concrete he could feel it run through his scalp, and caress his cheek. He closed his eyes and leaned forward instinctively. He could even feel soft fur tickling his cheek. A smile had finally managed to break through his face, yet it disappeared just as fast when he expected a warm chest and a beating heart to catch his face, but there was nothing.
The breeze slowly fades, and Albedo is alone again. It’s then he realizes that it wasn’t dragonspine or cold sand. The breeze which rolled in every time he felt lonely or lost, it wasn’t anything else, but Kaeya, his lover that he had to watch the life drain out of in the hands of the traveller. Pain befell the whole nation then. No one could believe that it was their beloved cavalry captain that would bring mondstadt’s demise. No one could believe that after all the hurt, they’d have to lose him too. Albedo fears that he too may meet the same fate soon. Though as he feels another coolness resting on his shoulder, the anxiety dissipates.
“Soon, love. We’ll be together again soon.”
