Work Text:
Dom pats his stallion’s mane. He yawns. Sorasa rides up beside him.
“Tired?” she asks, smirking.
He gives her a look, “I don’t get tired.”
Sorasa shrugs,“Whatever you say.”
She turns in the saddle and calls back to Corayne. “Hurry up! We need to get to the camp before nightfall.”
They’re currently trekking through the woods, staying off the main paths to avoid confrontation. They’re meeting up with Andry and a few others at a campsite. Dom ducks under a low-hanging branch. He curses as it hits the top of his head. Sorasa snickers. He glares at her, then turns his gaze back towards the path in front of him. Bugs buzz around his horse’s tail. The stallion pins back his ears in protest.
Dom sighs and pats his neck reassuringly. “I know my friend. The woods are against the both of us.”
Sorasa rolls her eyes at them but holds back a retort. She’ll save it for another day. A day where the woods aren’t encompassing them from all sides. She turns around again, checking on Corayne. The girl’s chestnut mare is practically dragging her hooves through the dirt. Sorasa sighs. Today is going to be a very long day. They will definitely have to spend a night in the forest alone. She shivers at the thought. Although she will never admit it, this place unsettles her. She feels suffocated by it. So different from the wide-open desert that she calls home. She sighs. She could collapse at this very moment. Her mare nickers softly. Sorasa leans down to stroke her neck.
"Only a little while longer," she murmurs.
Dom glances over at her, and his gaze softens. Sorasa catches his gaze; she gives him a smile. He smiles back.
Suddenly, Corayne calls from behind them, "Dom, watch your head!"
A flurry of curses echo through the forest.
