“Tell me why we couldn’t have this party at my place?” Ryusui asked.
“Because I don’t think you know the meaning of a small party Ryusui chan,” Gen pointed out.
“What? What gives you that idea?” Ryusui questioned.
“Last year you had like 100 people over,” Senkuu called from the kitchen.
“It was fun man but this year, maybe a small party would be best,” Chrome commented.
“Just the eight of us is enough,” Kohaku added.
“And it’s me and Senkuu chan’s turn to host after all,” Gen pointed out.
“Thank you again,” Ruri thanked.
“Of course Ruri chan,”
The eight of them were hanging out at Senkuu and Gen’s place. Each year the eight of them were going to someone’s place to eat toshikoshi soba and make O-sechi ryori for the next year. Kohaku, Gen, Ryusui, Chrome, and Ruri were resting under the warm kotatsu waiting for the toshikoshi soba to cook.
“And plus you don’t have a kotatsu,” Kohaku snuggled up even more in the kotatsu.
“I see your point,” Ryusui hummed. “I’ll have Francois order one,” Ryusui snapped.
“Dude-,” Chrome deadpanned.
It was around 10:30. Snow was falling outside and coloring the ground white outside. Even Senkuu and Gen’s balcony was being covered in snow. Ryusui was obviously joking about wanting to have the celebration at his house again. Senkuu and Gen’s apartment was cute, plus Ryusui may have had a small desire this year. He had tried last year but it seemed everyone at the party had wanted Ryusui’s attention.
New years was the time that everyone was free to hang out with each other. The others and himself were busy with their own lives. College, work, Traveling the world in some cases. That may add to the fact Ryusui have had a crush on Tsukasa for a few years at that point and still hasn’t had the right chance to confess his feelings.
Three years and still… I’ve made no progress. How sad.
“You think Tsukasa knows?” Amaryllis whispered to Senkuu as Senkuu prepared the broth.
“Kuku have you seen the guy?” Senkuu quietly snickered. “There’s a ten billion percent chance he doesn’t,”
“Yeah, but I feel bad for Ryusui,” Amaryllis added. “He’s been trying for 3 years now.
“I don’t see why he just doesn’t text him his confession,” Senkuu replied.
Amaryllis scoffed. “You’re so unromantic. Ryusui wants it to be special,”
“Why? We aren’t high schoolers anymore,” Senkuu raised an eyebrow. “If it’s been three years I don’t see why,” Shrugged shrugged.
“I feel bad for Gen,” Amaryllis deadpanned.
“Yeah yeah,” Senkuu slightly blushed. “Still, all of us know besides Tsukasa. At that point why not just confess?”
“I think it’s sweet. Waiting so long for the perfect moment to confess,” Amaryllis smiled. “Besides don’t you want to see your friends happy together?” Amaryllis nudged Senkuu side.
Senkuu glanced over at Tsukasa who was cutting the green onion for the soba. “Yeah,” Senkuu replied. “As long as they aren’t all over each other in my house,” Senkuu joked. “And besides we have a plan,”
“Hmmh? What do you mean?”
“Nothing, shouldn’t you focus on your noddles?” Senkuu pointed out.
“Oh shoot!”
10:45
The eight of them gladly ate the warm soba still sitting in the kotatsu. Gen finished up his bowl and learned on Senkuu’s should.
“I told you not o eat to fast mentalist,” Senkuu teased.
“Orry say,” Gen sang. “It was just so good. Thank you two for helping,”
“Don’t worry about it,” Tsukasa replied.
“Glad to help,” Amaryllis smiled.
Gen smiled, before noticing something. Ryusui body language. Looks like the other wanted to say something but didn’t know what. His eyes shifted more than usual.
Ohh so Ryusui chan needs a way to get the ball rolling.
“Hey Senkuu chan,” Gen whispered.
“Hmmh?”
“I think now is a good time,” Gen sang quietly .
“It’s in the fridge,” Senkuu hummed.
“You know me so well dear Senkuu chan,” Gen got off Senkuu’s shoulder and clapped his hands together. “Well we still have a few minutes to kill so why not play a game?
“A game?” Kohaku questioned. “What are you planning rat?”
“Awww Kohaku chan, do you really think so lowly of me?” Gen veined being hurt.
“Well, what is the game then?” Ruri asked.
“Ohhh just a game of truth or dare,” Gen explained.
“Ohhh that’s innocent enough,” Chrome added.
“Sounds fun,” Ryusui agreed.
“But everything you fail to answer or don’t do the dare you have to take a sip of beer,” Gen explained further.
“There it is,” Kohaku laughed. “But that does sound like a fun game,”
“Wait Gen what are you-,” Amaryllis started to say.
“Great! I’ll get the beer,”
11:30
“Ok Gen, truth or dare?” Kohaku asked.
“Truth,” Gen replied, a bit buzzed.
“Have you ever cheated on a college exam?” Kohaku grinned.
“My chemistry exam,” Gen answered. “The damn professor taught us nothing,”
“Didn’t you almost fail that one?” Senkuu asked.
“Like I said, he taught us nothing,” Gen protested.
“He would just assign chapters to read too,” Chrome groaned.
“Alright my turn~ Hmmmm'' Gen hummed like he was thinking about who to pick. “Tsukasa chan, truth or dare?”
“Truth,”
“Have you ever had a crush on anyone in this room?” Gen grinned.
“Took ya long enough,” Senkuu whispered.
Tsukasa picked up his beer can and opened it with the tab. Tsukasa brought the can to his lips and drank from it.
“Ohhhh no way,” Chrome teased.
“Ahhhh now you have to tell us,” Kohaku pestered.
“Yeah come on!” Chrome joined in.
“No no, Tsukasa chan already drank,” Gen stated. “Unless you want to Tsukasa chan,”
“I’m good,” Tsukasa said while readjusting himself.
A tell huh? And now Tsukasa is slightly leaning more toward Ryusui. Hmmm.
“No fun,” Chrome huffed.
“Phase two,” Gen whispered to Senkuu.
11:45
11:45 and still no real progress. For as greedy as Ryusui could be, he just didn’t know the right time. In front of everyone too? What was he thinking?
“Hey Senkuu chan,” Gen called from the kitchen
“Yeah?” Senkuu turned his head.
“Where did you put the mochi?” Gen questioned.
“I thought you bought it?” Senkuu replied.
“No…,” Gen groaned.
“Hey, it’s alright. We don’t need mochi this year,” Ruri sweetly stated.
“There is a 24 hour convenient store nearby isn’t there?” Tsukasa asked.
“I mean yeah but it’s alright,” Amaryllis answered.
“It’s only a few minutes away,” Tsukasa protested as he stood up.
“You sure? Ruri’s right, it’s ok,” Senkuu added.
“I’ll be fine,” Tsukasa replied. “It’s only a few minutes away,”
“I’ll-” Kohaku started to get up.
“Ryusui chan, can you go with him?” Gen asked.
“Oh sure, sounds fun,” Ryusui got out of the kotatsu and joined Tsukasa.
11:45, phase two.
“Hey Senkuu chan,” Gen called.
“Yeah?” Senkuu responded.
“Where did you put the mochi?” Gen questioned.
“I thought you bought it?” Senkuu replied.
“No…,” Gen faked a groan.
“Hey, it’s alright. We don’t need mochi this year,” Ruri sweetly stated.
Senkuu chan, when you tell Tsukasa chan were our place is make sure you mention it’s by the convenience store,”
“What for?” Senkuu asked.
“You know how much Ryusui has been pinning after Tsukasa for sooo long now?”
“There is a 24-hour convenient store nearby isn’t there?” Tsukasa asked.
“Ryusui chan, can you go with him?” Gen cut off Kohaku.
“Oh sure, sounds fun,” Ryusui got out of the kotatsu and joined Tsukasa.
They both grabbed their jackets and went out.
“Alright spill,” Kohaku glared.
“What meee~?” Gen sang with a grin. “Whatever do you mean?”
“You’re planning something aren’t you?” Kohaku scoffed.
“Ohhh so that’s what you meant Senkuu,” Amaryllis recalled.
“You knew?”
“No, Senkuu mentioned something about having a plan while we were making soba,” Amaryllis explained.
“And you didn’t tell us?” Chrome raised his eyebrow.
“You aren’t exactly the best and keeping secrets Chrome,” Ruri pointed out playfully.
“What about us?” Kohaku asked, pointing to her and Amaryllis.
“Well, you are a subtitle as a brick to the face,” Senkuu shrugged.
“How about we test that?” Kohaku gritted her teeth.
“Outside you two,” Ruri sighed.
Luckily the store still had some mochi… and so Ryusui bought the rest they had. 22 to be exact. Tsukasa had protested to let him pay but Ryusui insisted.
“Do we really need so many?” Tsukasa asked.
“Well we are going to be the last one’s here tonight I bet,” Ryusui replied.
“I see your point. I’ll pay for them then,”
What is the point of being rich if I can’t pay for things for my friends?”
“Heh I guess you have a point,” Tsukasa laughed a bit.
Ryusui and Tsukasa made their way up the apartment stairs to Senkuu and Gen’s. Tsukasa put down the plastic bags in one hand and began to reach for the door handle when.
“3,” They could hear their friends counting down from inside. “2, 1! Happy New Year!”
Ryusui checked his watch. 12 am on the dot.
“Aye looks like we missed it huh Ts-?”
Ryusui didn’t get to finish before a pair of lips were to meet him. Ryusui stood there stunned for a second. Tsukasa moved back.
“Happy new years Ryusui,”
“Wh-”
Tsukasa opened the door. “We’re back!” He called.
“Oii wait!”
