Who's Your Daddy?!

Summary:

At the age of 18, Gojo Satoru had another huge responsibility: to keep an eye on Fushiguro Megumi. Having this responsibility meant random calls from Megumi asking him to show up as his guardian in school. But, sometimes, Megumi goes on autopilot and calls him something else.

Notes:

The prompt was a tweet from @astrocito_s

what are the chances of megumi accidentally calling gojo "dad" when he was still a little kid and gojo never ever letting that cute slip of the tongue go?

Also, noticed that Geto Suguru was mentioned in the tags? In this fic, I have a headcanon that Geto also met Megumi before he went down the road to villainy.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

A phone rang right in the middle of a crowd of curses. Gojo and Geto looked at each other.

"No, Satoru. Don't pick it up. I can't handle these all by myself," Geto said.

A blue light dissipated from Gojo's hand and half of the curses disintegrated. "There ya go. Lemme check this." He pulled his phone from his pocket.

"Show off." Geto rolled his eyes and proceeded to exorcise the remaining curses.

Gojo checked the small screen on his flip phone and smiled. He flicked the cover-up and brought his phone to his ear. "Heyyy, Megumi! Now's a really tight time to call me. What's up?"

"Uh, I can call you la-"

"No, no. You rarely call and when you do, it's always a life-and-death situation. What's it?" Gojo followed Geto further up the trail.

"Ah, so it's not a booty call." Geto chuckled to himself.

There was a moment of silence over the phone before Fushiguro Megumi continued. "Uh, so. My teacher needed to talk to my parent or guardian. You're the only one listed as our guardian."

"Huh. What did you do this time, Fushiguro?" Gojo could imagine the kid cringing as he called him by his last name.

Geto glanced over his shoulder. "Kid duties again?" Gojo stuck out his tongue at him.

"N-nothing." The child croaked. "She just wants to check on my guardian about my grades. That's all."

Gojo frowned. He knew how hard it is for the Fushiguro siblings to manage their school and home life without any supervising adults. Even though they have a kind neighbour who checks up on them from time to time, having an adult living with them would have been better.

He had been asking Megumi to move out of their hometown and live with them in Tokyo, in school, but the kid kept on refusing, telling him different reasons like "this is our home", and "I am not ready to face Tokyo."

Am I putting too much responsibility on Fushiguro? He would sometimes ask himself that.

"Right!" Gojo snapped from his thoughts when Geto almost punched him for leaving the latter with a curse. Gojo casually snapped his fingers for the curse to disappear.

"Almost done!" Geto reported.

"When do you need me there?" Gojo asked the kid.

"This afternoon. At dismissal."

Gojo checked his watch. They roughly had 3 hours left. And the ride was about 2 hours without traffic.

"Okay! I'll be there!" Gojo replied. Megumi ended the call and the man returned his phone to his pocket.

"So? Did your kid get into a fight?" Geto asked.

"First of all, he's not my kid. Second, it's gonna be because of his grades."

"When do you need to be there?"

"By 4."

Geto got his phone to check the time. "Let's go. We're almost done here."

Gojo was running to the entrance of the school when they arrived. He literally jumped off the car when they pulled up in the driveway, not even waiting for the car to fully stop. Geto closed the door behind him.

Megumi was standing outside the classroom, pouting and his arms crossed on his chest. Behind him was a lady in her 20s, dressed in a teacher's uniform.

Gojo slowed down when he entered the hallway, trying to look like an adult and not a boy in his late teens scrambling to get his mentee. Megumi sighed. "You're late, Gojo-senpai."

"I'm really sorry, kid. You know I had business in the next town." He patted the top of Megumi's hair but the kid swatted his hand. "Yeah, maybe not. You might bite my hand again." Gojo looked at the lady. "Hi, you must be Fushiguro's teacher?" He said with a polite but charming smile on his face

The lady blinked a few times to compose herself. She had been captivated by Gojo's looks the moment he showed up. "Gojo Satoru, right?" Gojo's lips curled up in a toothless smile in acknowledgment. "P-please, follow me here." She led them in the classroom.

An hour later, Geto was standing outside the car, leaning back at the trunk. He looked up when he noticed Gojo and Megumi walking out of the building.

"You brought him with you this time?" Megumi said when he saw Geto waving at him with a smile. Megumi bashfully waved back at him.

"Who else do I bring with me during missions?" Gojo asked the kid.

Geto narrowed his eyes on Gojo. "Fushiguro, are you saying Gojo has someone?"

A confused look appeared on Megumi's face. "I-I don't understand what that meant." Geto chuckled and patted Megumi's head.

"Hey! Why did you allow him to do that?" Gojo protested.

Geto ignored his partner and bent his knees to be at the same height as the kid. "So, what happened?"

"I almost failed math. Fractions are hard." Megumi pouted.

"Oh. Yeah. It's hard. But you know you can always give Gojo a call whenever you need help, right? He's gonna show up right away."

Gojo, who was standing behind Megumi, gave Geto a face of disapproval. "Well, you can always give me a call. Or you can visit Tokyo during the weekend and we'll work on your homework there."

"Wow, coming from you? You're behind your reports, dummy," Geto pointed out. "I can help you with that, Fushiguro." He smiled at the kid.

"Or you can stay with - ow!" Geto stood up and punched Gojo on the arm before he could finish his sentence. Geto knew the kid didn't want to move to Tokyo with them but Gojo kept pressuring him. He had to stop his best friend from spilling the suggestion again. Gojo massaged his arm. "Anyway, you want some ice cream, Megumi? I kinda want one now."

Megumi looked up at the two skyscraper men before him. "I have to go. Tsumiki's on her way home by now."

"Oh yeah." Gojo scratched the back of his head. "What if we pick up Tsumiki, then we get ice cream?"

For the first time since they arrived, Megumi gave them a small smile and nodded. "That settles it." Gojo ruffled Megumi's already-messy hair and the kid just allowed him to. "Get in the car."

"Alright, dad," Megumi said blankly.

Gojo and Geto stopped in their tracks and looked at each other. Megumi bumped on Gojo's leg. "Did…did you just call Satoru dad?" Geto asked Megumi.

"What…" He quietly asked, then a blush crept on his cheeks when he realized what he said. “No! I didn’t!” Megumi turned away from them.

“He he he...I heard that.” Gojo stood straight, smoothing the minute creases on his Jujutsu Tech polo shirt. “I don’t mind being your dad, Fushiguro.”

“You’re not my dad,” replied the kid. “I’m going home now.” He started walking in the direction of their home.

“Aw, come on!” Gojo went after him. “Don’t you want your daddy to buy you ice cream?”

Geto cringed. “Satoru, don’t.”

“C’mon, son!”

“Argh!” Geto covered his face with both his hands. “It’s getting worse.”

“Let’s buy you and your sister some ice cream! It’s on dad!” Gojo placed his hands on Megumi and turned him again to face the car. Megumi was furiously blushing while Gojo couldn’t stop smiling.

“Stop, you’re not my dad,” Megumi was close to whining.

“Everybody, in the car!” Gojo announced.

“You’re really into this, no?” Geto commented.

“Geto-senpai, please make him stop.” Megumi tugged Geto’s sleeve.

“Aw, come on. Who’s your daddy, Megumi?” Gojo boomed, raising his hands to his sides as if presenting himself.

Geto and Megumi cringed together. “Ugh, stop,” they both whined.

Years later, Gojo was sitting in a cafe booth with Yuuji, Nobara, and Megumi. Yuuji was doodling on the receipt. Nobara was people-watching by the window. Megumi noticed the small smile forming on his teacher’s face. “What’s with that look?” He asked.

Gojo’s smile widened. “Remember that time you accidentally called me dad?”

“Ugh.” Megumi pressed his palms on his eyes. “Please don’t.”

Yuuji and Nobara’s attention went to Gojo. “Megumi called you dad?” An amused smile appeared on Yuuji’s lips.

Megumi kicked Yuuji under the table. “Shut up!”

Nobara was already eager to listen. “How did that happen?”

“I picked him up from school and he accidentally called me dad.”

Megumi scowled. “It was an accident. Don’t get your hopes up.”

Nobara tilted her head and laughed. “Nope. Can’t see Gojo-sensei as a father.”

“Right?” Megumi chimed in.

“He did it multiple times,” Gojo added.

“Ugh, stop.” Megumi stood up and left the booth. “I’m going home ahead.”

“What? You’re gonna leave your dad behind?” Gojo said a little louder.

Megumi sighed. “I’m gonna punch you,” he uttered under his breath.
