Work Text:
The two walked like that for a bit longer through the forest. If Yo was being honest, this was the calmest he had felt in months. A second to breathe. Just catching up on everything that happened and their friend’s antics. Nothing having to worry about backstabbing or manual labor. It was all light-hearted but of course, they both danced around the whole “being shot thing”, but it had to be brought up at some point...
“For a second there I thought that Broody guy was actually a decent guy. We even played a few card games. Hah! Was I wrong,” Yo joked.
“Ohh what did he do?” Ryusui asked, still feeling light-hearted.
Oh right- shit.
“Oh well- He was kind of the guy who ordered the other American’s to shoot at us,” Yo explained, trying to not make it a big deal.
“You were shot at?!” It didn’t work. Ryusui stopped walking at looked at Yo.
The once calm atmosphere changed. His boyfriend was looking at him so worried. /you couldn’t help but feel a bit guilty bringing it up.
“Ohh well yeah… all of us were shot. So much so we all joked we were donuts when we woke up,” Yo tried to joke.
Ryusui sighed and let the tension from his face wash away. “You know what’s funny?”
“What?”
“I guess you weren’t the only one,” Ryusui sadly smiled.
“You too huh?”
“Yeah, Xeno’s damn lapdog,” Ryusui scoffed.
“He went that far?! Just to follow that damn chihuahua?”
“Apparently so,” Ryusui groaned. “But he’s still petrified and I got a few good punches in when no one was looking,”
“Niceee,” Yo replied.
“I didn’t break it but he may have a few new petrification scars,” Ryusui put.
“Now I wish I could see that,” Yo stated. “Maybe next time you guys go to South America, I’ll get a few hits in too,”
“Sounds nice,” Ryusui smiled at Yo. “But right now I’m just glad you’re safe,”
“Me too,” Yo smiled.
Ryusui brushed back some of Yo’s orange hair with his fingers and ran his fingers over Yo’s scalp. “God I missed you,” Ryusui smiled.
“I missed you too,” Yo looked up at Ryusui.
Ryusui leaned down and kissed his boyfriend. Ryusui cupped the sides of Yo’s face as they kissed. When Ryusui moved away he still kept his hands in place.
“Ughh why do you have to be taller,” Yo scoffed.
“Yeah yeah carrot top,” Ryusui pulled Yo into a hug. “I’m still just glad you’re safe and now you’re here too,”
“So affectionate huh?” Yo teased.
“Want me to let go?” Ryusui asked.
“...Nahhh I’m good here,” Yo smirked.
“We’re going to move eventually,” Ryusui pointed out.
“Later,” You replied. “Let me just make sure this is real,”
“Haha, what A silly question,” Ryusui laughed lightly. “Of course I am,”
“Just checking,” Yo commented, light heartily. “I’ve seen so much strange shit, for all I know you are some sort of hologram,”
“I assure you Yo, I’m real,” Ryusui playfully rolled his eyes.
“I guess I believe you,” Yo let go and stepped back. “And I guess the others are probably wondering where we are,”
“Agreed. Continue this later then?” Ryusui asked, putting out his hand.
“Sounds good,” Yo took his hand as they walked to base.

Later came finally. After what felt like endless amounts of work. Who knew taking the next step for humanity could take so much work?
It was like this back in Japan too. The only rest time they got was 30 mins breaks and at night. Yo and Ryusui rest in their bedrolls they had rolled out next to each other in their tent. Ryusui had his arm over Yo’s waist and held him there. You wanted to sleep but just something was keeping him up. It was getting cooler too. It was spring so nothing horrible but it was still a bit annoying. Yo’s body was ready to sleep but his mind was still wide awake. It had been like that a lot since that day… at one point he would pass out but it took longer than he wanted. The small candle in the small lamp they had still lit up the tent but the candle was starting to burn itself out. Yo sighed.
“Yo?” Ryusui’s voice asked from behind him.
“Ahh sorry, Did I wake you?” Yo questioned.
“Nah, I’ve been up too. Couldn’t sleep,”
“I know right? I can’t tell if it’s these damn beds or the time change,” Yo sighed.
“Hmmh I see,” Ryusui hummed. “These beds are uncomfy,”
“Senku hates us huh?” Yo joked.
“Hah hah tell me about it,” Ryusui laughed. “Be he’s got desire so I respect him,”
“You of course you would,”
“Desire is noble,” Ryusui hummed.
“Well I desire A day off,” Yo playfully scoffed. “I had to make a bunch of tiny circuit-looking things back in America,” Yo rolled his eyes. “Like these people just shot me!? Now you want to do what?”
“Bastards,” Ryusui snorted.
“Don’t even get me started about the Broddy guy,”
“Can I ask you a question, Yo?”
“Hmm? What’s up?” Yo questioned back.
“Back in America, When you were shot-,” Ryusui started. “Did it leave a mark?”
“Like a scar?”
“Yeah,”
“Yeah, it’s not a nice scar either. Kind of looks like a bunch of small holes to be honest,” Yo confessed.
“Can I see them?” Ryusui asked.
“Huh?” Yo rolled over to face Ryusui. “What for?”
“I just haven’t seen them I guess,” Ryusui simply explained.
Yo was quiet for a bit, think it over. “Ehh what’s the harm?” You sat up. Yo took off the shirt he was wearing and put it to the side. “See just a few bullet wounds,”
Ryusui sat up too and looked at the new scars. Yo had some from before he was first petrified sure but the newer ones showed more. Ryusui brought his hand to the new scares and ran over one with his thumb.
“Eckk your hands are cold Ryu!” Yo shivered.
“Sorry sorry,” Ryusui pulled his hand back. “I guess I got a bit carried away,” Ryusui’s eyes looked down a bit.
“Hey Ryusui, Is something actually wrong?”
Ryusui sighed lightly. “It’s still hard to believe everything that happened you know?” Ryusui put. “When you told me you got shot it kind of set in that all that was real,” Ryusui said, a bit sorrowful. “It’s not something I like but your scars are a part of you so I wanted to see them,”
Yo clenched his jaw a bit. “I sort of feel the same,” Yo rubbed the back of his head with his hand. “Like did that all really happen?” Yo, lower his hand.“You said you were shot too. Can I see them?”
Ryusui nodded and took off his shirt to reveal the three new scars on his abdomen. Ryusui was right. It was a bit hard to look at.
“This is so sappy,” Yo commented.
“A bit,” Ryusui teased.
“Still…,” Yo mumbled. He grabbed Ryusui’s wrist and brought Ryusui’s hands back to his scars. “I don’t mind your freezing hands too much,”
“Yo…,”
“I know I know. I’m being a total sap,” Yo shrugged.
“What does that make me then?” Ryusui raised an eyebrow.
“A bigger sap,”
“You jerk,”
“You love me,”
“Oh no,” Ryusui sarcastically replied.
“That’s right captain, you’re stuck with me,”
Ryusui moved his hand up Yo’s chest and to the nape of Yo’s neck. “I’m glad then,”
Ryusui moved closer and lightly kissed Yo’s lips. Yo held the hand at the nape of his neck and kissed Ryusui back. Yo smiled and leaned back into the kiss making Ryusui fall back onto the bedroll again.
“A bit forcefully don’t ya think?” Ryusui teased
“Oh ha ha, very funny,” Yo sarcastically replied.
“Sorry sorry,” Ryusui laughed a bit.
“I hate you sometimes,” Yo put his forehead to Ryusui.
“Awww, come on carrot top,” Ryusui kept laughing.
“You ass,” Yo tried to hold back his snickering.
“The two kissed again, hand in hand. When the two pulled back, Yo took the chance to kiss the new bullet scars on Ryusui’s abdomen.
“Yo,” Ryusui chuckled from the cold touch.
“I love you,” Yo blurted.
“I love you too Yo,” Ryusui smiled.
You rested his head on Ryusui’s chest. Yo heard the light beating of Ryusui’s heart. Ryusui ran his fingers over Yo’s scalp and threw Yo’s hair.
