Work Text:
One last song… Sayo let out a tired sigh, her right hand gripping her guitar pick as tightly as her already worn-out fingers could manage to. She took a deep breath and repositioned her guitar on her thigh, preparing to practice another song despite her body screaming at her not to.
…Maybe… maybe I should… stop for today. She finally snapped some sense into herself, shaking her head as she tiredly got up and placed her guitar back on its stand. Her eyes drifted to her left.
A red bass guitar was neatly placed right beside her own blue guitar, quickly reminding her of its owner. Additionally, albeit tired and very slight, it brought a smile to her lips.
It wasn’t too late, being only 22:55PM when Sayo decided to end her long practice session. Actually… the word only was the wrong one. It was already almost eleven o’clock. On top of that, she definitely lost track of time.
It wouldn’t be as bad if said session didn’t last approximately 5 hours without a break at all, and given Sayo’s early morning schedule, she wouldn’t be getting much sleep if she kept going.
With the room she sat in being soundproof, she couldn’t exactly tell by noise— or rather lack of noise— what time it was.
But tomorrow is Saturday… I don’t think we have anything planned anyways…
Exiting the room, her ears were immediately drawn to the living room. She could hear something. Muffled and unclear in her foggy brain, but enough to make out it was coming from the television.
She strode her way there, rubbing one of her eyes tiredly as she yawned. She was absolutely exhausted now. The moment she put down her guitar was the moment she noticed just how downright awful of a condition she was in. Her body was collapsing from overwork.
If she sees me like this I’m dead… She told herself, predicting her nearing doom, and yet her body kept going, bringing her all the way to the living room.
“Sayo!” Lisa’s voice immediately rang through her ears, very clearly not so happy, yet not really angry either. “Gosh, did you overwork yourself again?”
“...Just a little bit.” Her voice was sluggish, to the point she herself didn’t really understand what she was saying. She made her way to the sofa, tiredly collapsing down by Lisa’s side as the bassist moved to sit up herself.
“I didn’t want to interrupt you… but next time I see you’re sitting in the music room for that long I’m confiscating your guitar.”
Sayo groaned, only furrowing her brows slightly in response.
“Don’t groan at me like that! You know this is bad for you!”
“...I know.” Sayo agreed, mumbling her words out. “I’m… sorry, Lisa.”
Lisa sighed dramatically, pulling Sayo closer to her and pecking her cheek with a soft kiss. “You better be. I’m not forgiving you next time you collapse with a 39°c fever.”
“...Won’t happen.” Sayo said with a soft, very tired smile directed at her girlfriend.
Seeing her dumb smile, Lisa couldn’t help but soften up. Her cheeks slightly tainted red, she shined her own gentle smile at Sayo, cupping her cheeks.
“You’re so unfair. You can’t just smile at me like that after I scolded you, it just makes me want to kiss you and that makes me forget I was ever mad at you!”
Although really wanting to continue and share this moment with her significant other, Sayo felt her body finally giving up. She could barely keep herself sitting, let alone hold a conversation with just how tired her brain was.
After noticing her condition and letting go of Sayo’s cheeks, Lisa let out another sigh.
“Wanna go to bed? It’s pretty late.”
“...No, it’s…” She said, but she didn’t exactly think more than these two words ahead. In fact, she wasn‘t even sure why she said no.
Instead, she pressed her shoulder against Lisa’s, her head gently leaning against the brunette‘s as she felt her eyelids heavying down.
And with that, she drifted off to sleep, leaving Lisa to support her entire body weight on her own.
I’m not letting you do this again and no amount of pleading will help you. Lisa let out a soft sigh, carefully grabbing a spare soft blanket she kept by the sofa in case she ever got too sleepy to get up at this hour.
And it seemed it finally had a use.
She draped it over herself and Sayo, making it a little bit more comfortable and warm, given it was already December. She herself wasn’t cold, as she already wore her nightly clothes, but Sayo could easily catch a cold like this, given all she wore were jeans and a normal white button-up shirt. How she hasn’t caught a cold yet , Lisa didn’t know.
Maybe it’s the Hikawa genes. Hina is exactly the same. She joked, smiling at the thought of just how similar the twins really were.
Oh well. I don’t mind staying up a bit, but I’ll definitely have to wake her up soon…
She suddenly felt Sayo shift a bit, making herself a little bit more comfortable and repositioning herself to rest her head on Lisa’s shoulder as she very gently nuzzled up against her.
...Yeah. I can let her sleep for a bit like this. Lisa breathed out, her face gaining a soft blush.
Regardless, Sayo seemed at peace. And that’s what made it so much better.
Lisa gently combed through Sayo’s soft hair, the latter groaning in her sleep at the contact.
You’re so silly… you’re probably going to freak out about this when you wake up. Knowing you, you’ll just start apologizing for falling asleep on me, even if we’ve been dating ever since highschool… gosh.
She looked up at the television, lazily switching through channels until she found something better she could watch.
Ah, I know this movie! It’s so romantic~ …I’ll cry if I watch it, though… the ending is just too much…
She said… and put down the remote control.
...I-I’ll just watch a bit of it. Not more than ten minutes!!
And so an hour and a half later, all that could be heard around their shared apartment were Lisa’s muffled sobs as the credits of the movie rolled in.
I-I said I won’t… but I couldn’t even hold myself this time… She held a hand over her mouth, shutting her eyes as tears rolled down her cheeks. She just couldn’t help herself. But she had to be careful not to wake Sayo up.
She sacrificed herself for her… she knew she would die if she used that much power and she didn’t even know if it’ll be enough to save her! Ohhh and what she said in the end… “I won’t ever leave you, I’ll stay by your side to protect you forever.” with her bittersweet smile… oh god, I’m going to start sobbing… o-of course she lived in the end and everything was good but… god, this story ripped me apart.
But before she could continue her spiraling train of thoughts into sadness and probable agony at her attachment to the movie, she felt Sayo shift beside her. She groaned softly, opening an eye as she rubbed the other.
“Huh…?” She said in a gurgled voice, looking up into Lisa’s slightly reddish eyes from the amount of crying she had to go through.
“Mmmm… Are you okay…? …What happened?” She sat back up straight, her eyes still locked on Lisa as she yawned and stretched her body slightly.
“A-Ah,” Lisa took a sharp breath in to hold her already running nose, wiping her eyes with her sleeve. “N-Nothing, just watched a movie…”
As Sayo began regaining her full consciousness, she also slowly began realizing what had happened. Before Lisa knew it, Sayo’s eyes were almost as wide as a scared cat’s eyes, her cheeks blazing hot with a red color indicating her embarrassment. She began opening her mouth to probably start apologizing, however, unlike many times before it, Lisa was quick to react.
With a finger now pressed against Sayo’s lips and a playful grin from Lisa, she couldn’t do anything. Her cheeks and ears still red from embarrassment and eyes similar to a cat, Sayo was left speechless and unable to express whatever her brain did manage to think of before she was shut up.
“Don’t even start it.” Lisa murmured, leaning closer to Sayo. “Don’t apologize.”
Sayo quickly recovered from her shock, leaning backwards to be able to at least speak.
“Wh…Why didn’t you wake me up…?! I… this… but I—” She stuttered. She was mortified. Why didn’t Lisa wake her up? To fall asleep on her this way… and Lisa had to support her entire weight and also not move to not wake her up…
“Hm? Why would I? You were cute~”
“Th-That’s… not a reason to l…let me just sleep on you like this…”
“Hmm~ I see no issue here~☆”
Sayo let out a defeated sigh, finally relaxing after the slight shock she had.
“Honestly, you…” She shook her head gently, a small smile on her face now as her cheeks and ears’ red color softened.
“You can complain tomorrow.” Lisa giggled as she saw Sayo’s pout. She stood up and pulled the blanket off Sayo, folding it and tucking it back into the basket it was in by the sofa. “Now come on, let’s at least move to bed before you fall asleep again.” She hummed, turning the television off.
“Hey… I’m not that exhausted…”
“Sure you aren’t.” Lisa said with yet another playful smile, taking Sayo’s hands into hers and helping her up. “C’mon.”
“Mmmm… fine.” Sayo gave in to Lisa’s persuasion… though it didn’t look at all like she protested much to begin with.
They made their way to their shared bedroom, Lisa immediately collapsing down on the bed and letting out a loud, overdramatic sigh of relief as she crawled under her big fluffy blanket. She quickly made herself comfortable, now looking up at Sayo as she finally changed into her nightly clothes. As their eyes met, Lisa shone a soft smile, lifting up her blanket for Sayo to join her.
“Come here.” She murmured.
Sayo hesitated for a moment, her cheeks bright red.
“Come heeeeere~” Lisa repeated, her voice in a singsong tone.
Sayo finally obliged, crawling onto the bed to join Lisa. However, the moment she lied down, the moment Lisa practically swallowed her under the blanket and closer to her.
Yelping, Sayo looked up at Lisa after emerging from under the blanket, her eyes widened in surprise.
“L-Lisa…!” She exclaimed as the latter only giggled in response. “You could’ve warned me at least…”
“I could’ve~” Lisa teased, prompting a sigh from Sayo.
Defeated, Sayo simply cuddled closer to her girlfriend, nuzzling her face against her collarbone as she eased into her embrace.
“Aren’t we affectionate~♪” Lisa hummed. she stroked her hand through Sayo’s soft hair, nuzzling her cheek against her head.
“...It’s just cold.” Sayo mumbled out an obvious excuse, her tone clearly indicating her embarrassment.
“Of course.” Lisa said, her voice soft and tender. It soothed Sayo… knowing she’s in the embrace of the person she loved the most. Knowing she would wake up to more love and adoration from her. Knowing she could hold her close to herself and be happy.
It made her heart flutter.
“Lisa.” Sayo said in a low voice, looking at her girlfriend as she looked down into her eyes. As Lisa raised a brow, expecting Sayo to continue talking, she reached up, softly and gently placing her lips against Lisa’s for but a quick second, before quickly burying her face into Lisa’s neck.
It took Lisa’s mind a moment to register what happened. She blinked a few times. Her cheeks quickly heated up as she understood what happened.
“Oh my.” She said quietly, her voice a bit shaky from the surprise. “We really are affectionate today, aren’t we.”
“I-Is it that weird to kiss your significant other goodnight…?” With her voice already half muffled, Sayo’s voice was just barely audible.
And yet it’s as high as Ako’s.
“No, I just didn’t expect you to be this straightforward~”
“...I-I won’t do this again if you keep teasing me like this…” Sayo wrapped her arms around Lisa’s waist, once again looking up into Lisa’s eyes with a semi-stern look.
“Fine, fine~” With a soft giggle, Lisa pressed her forehead against Sayo’s, nuzzling her nose with hers. “I’ll stop teasing you for now .”
Sayo knew she couldn’t do anything about it. And so with one last defeated sigh, she smiled, closing her eyes. “If you won’t tease me tomorrow I’ll kiss you good morning too.”
“Oh, like you won’t do it anyways.” Lisa murmured, her smile widening as she felt Sayo furrowed her brows slightly.
“...A-And what if I will?”
“I’ll just kiss you myself.”
Sayo groaned quietly. “Lisa…”
“Alright, alright~” Lisa sighed, giving Sayo a soft kiss on her lips as she closed her eyes.
“I love you. Night~♪” She hummed, finally feeling herself dozing off.
“...I love you too. Goodnight, Lisa.” Sayo replied in a whisper, nuzzling closer to Lisa for warmth as she too finally fell asleep.
