Work Text:

Ganyu has her lips pressed into a thin line while holding onto the small box in her hands, carefully wrapped in purple fabric. A present for Beidou. The lip balm she put on this before leaving her home was all gone because she couldn’t stop chewing on her lips. And while the wind ran through her hair, she watched the skyline and wondered if she was already too late.

Why out of all times, she had to oversleep today? A yawn escaped her. The sun was barely rising, and yet she was already on her feet. Nobody else was here, not even the fish market was open. A calm silence, so rare for the harbor, was all Ganyu was surrounded with.

 “Ganyu!”

Her heart jumped and skipped a beat once Ganyu processed who was calling for her. Slowly, she turned around, brushing the hair out of her face and her lips forming a smile.

“I’m sorry for being late!” Beidou apologized once she reached Ganyu, who hid the present behind her back. “Xiangling caught me and gave me a bag with seasonings and other stuff for cooking, including my breakfast once I’m on the Alcor.”

Ganyu dropped her eyes and felt her heart slip away, down to her toes. No way her cooking could compete with Xiangling. “Oh that’s great,” Ganyu said and took a quick glimpse of Beidou. “Then you won’t need that anymore.”

Beidou took a good look at the carefully packed thing in Ganyu’s hands and frowned her forehead. “What’s that?” she asked eventually. Then she leaned closer as if she noticed something else. “It tastes delicious, and the fabric has the same smell as your clothes.”

The blush on Ganyu’s cheeks turned dark red, and she felt the warmth creep up to the tip of her ears. “I–” She tried to swallow the lump in her throat down, but the way Beidou glanced at her, she wasn’t able to get another word out. “I–” Ganyu tried again when she saw the confused expression on Beidou’s face.

“Did I say something wrong?” Beidou asked and Ganyu shook her head quickly. “What is it then?”

Ganyu licked over her bottom lip and chewed on it for a moment before she answered Beidou, eyes averted because she wasn’t able to hold eye contact. “I made you a breakfast box but I’m not as skilled in cooking as Xiangling, and some pieces are even burnt because–Ah–” She couldn’t possibly admit that she napped for a few seconds in front of her oven.

“Oh–” Beidou was speechless now, but then took the wrapped box from Ganyu. “Thank you, Ganyu. Now I finally understand why you asked me about my likes and dislikes in food.” An embarrassed laugh escaped Beidou, and she stared into the distance.

For a moment, there was silence between them before Beidou looked back at Ganyu, who dropped her eyes right away when their eyes met. “There is still time left until I have to meet up with my crew so would you mind sharing that with me?”

The warm smile when Beidou raised the box, the fabric shimmering in the dim light, made Ganyu blush again. “I–I’d love to!”
