Work Text:

The gentle sounds of birds singing in the distance drifted to Hermione’s ears as she made the walk over the hill from the Burrow where she now lived to the house where Luna Lovegood had grown up. It was a gorgeous summer’s day, the perfect day for spending time in the sun with one's head in a book. It was the type of day that she regularly longed for.

The Burrow was where she called home now; the war had torn her parents away from her with a simple flick of her wand. However, sometimes it was just a bit… too much. It was too loud. It was too lively. She figured that was the reason she was drawn to the gorgeous blonde from across the hill.

There was a quietness to Luna Lovegood that very few ever saw, but Hermione was one of those favoured few. She was one of the few who were allowed into the inner sanctum that was the Lovegood home. She loved it more than anything else in the world. Actually, she loved Luna more than anything else in the world, which was why she was making the trek across the hill.

There was a blonde who was waiting for her. A beautiful woman who deserved the world, but alas, all Hermione could offer her was a real kiss. The type of kiss that stole your breath and curled your toes. The kind of kiss that made it feel as though you were the only two in the world. Luna deserved all of that and more; she deserved it often, as often as possible.

There was a feeling of love, a feeling of sentimentality as Hermione walked across the hill, the grass glittering with the morning dew as the birds sang. It was reminiscent of the first morning Hermione had made the journey, which had ended with her kissing Luna passionately. And now it was a near-daily occurrence; there was only the odd occasion when there was no morning kiss between them.

The singing of the birds grew louder and more melodic the closer Hermione got to the Lovegood house; the sun was also rising higher as the distance between herself and her destination grew smaller. The closer she got, the better she could make out Luna. The other woman was already out in the garden, the sun creating a halo around her blonde hair which blew gently in the wind.

It was almost as if the world, as if nature itself agreed with Hermione’s thoughts about Luna and everything she deserved. It was as though nature and the world agreed that Luna was the most perfect person Hermione could ever have met.

Those were the thoughts that were dancing around Hermione’s mind as she finally reached the Lovegood home. Her girlfriend was spinning in the garden as if she was dancing to the birds' song, but Hermione had a feeling that she was actually dancing around with a Bowtruckle or another similar creature.

All Hermione could do was watch Luna dance until she was within arm's reach, and as soon as she was, Hermione gently pulled her close and started to slow dance with her to the music of the birds singing. It was what they did every morning, and like every other morning, as they began to slow down their steps, Hermione leaned in and gently pressed her lips to Luna’s in a passionate but chaste kiss.

As their lips touched, the birds' song quietened, and the sun began to shine brighter. There was a magic in being able to kiss the love of your life properly. That magic was like a flurry of passion that swirled around them, as if they were standing in the eye of a tornado. It was perfect.

“What did I ever do to deserve this?” Luna whispered, as their kiss ended and their foreheads came to rest against the other's. It was a sweet and romantic affair just like Hermione wanted to give Luna every day.

“Nothing, you are just perfect and deserve to have a proper kiss from someone who knows how,” Hermione whispered in response before she leaned slightly further forward to kiss Luna once again. This time as their lips touched the sounds around them got louder and louder, leading to a crescendo as the sparks of passion ignited between them.

“Perfect,” Luna murmured as she once again leaned into her girlfriend’s embrace.
