Haunted by a past he did not pick.

Summary:

The watchers have decided that the only way to disrupt the disruption of servers caused by the never relenting Vex mob is a world wide genocide of the mob. Unluckily for Scar due to a cruel past he falls under the category of a vex mob.

All his fears come crashing down on him and his friends are forced to watch him unravel, realise that he’s not the person they thought they knew and come to terms with the fact that if they don’t act, and act fast said player is going to fall to permadeath.

Chapter Text

Scar had been living in hermitcraft for a long few years and had some amazing friends, when he first moved there he had been worried that he would be sent away because technically in his code he was more mob then human but he had been welcomed into the server by the admin and promised safety from discrimination, give him the chance to be something other then an unfortunate wizards who’s powered had been tainted by vex, slowly taking him over until he was part of the vex ‘family’ he choked it up to being in the wrong place at the wrong time and being pretty young and impressionable. X understood that despite his code he was his own person and had worked hard to escape.

While X had promised him that no one would hate him or treat him differently if they knew he was a Vex Scar had decided to keep it a secret to avoid having to get through any stereotypes. After all Vex had the reputation of being destructive cruel creatures, something Scar could confirm, it was said that if you had vex on your server it wouldn’t be long until everything had burned to the ground. He didn’t want people to be afraid of him.

Since Scar wasn’t fully Vex he could still hold a certain amount of power over his instincts and vex nature but that didn’t mean it was easy, in q past season he had let himself go some what and had ended up dominating the server with Cub, who he had learned also had a past with Vex but not to the extent Scar had. Luckily his behaviour last season was choked up to being competitive and not him spiralling and losing control. He was doing better this season and had instead focused his energy into his buildings like he normally tried to do. After all, under all his problems with the Vex he was still a creative Scar who loved making friends.

He had become pretty comfortable with how he was currently in the world, he had great friends, he had been there for years, they were aware that he was a wizard (even if they weren’t aware that his magic had been corrupted somewhat) so he could use his magic without fear although he kept any spells that have any heavy vex magic behind them to himself in fear of someone recognising the power.

That amount of safety immediately went cold when suddenly he was no longer in his house going through his chest and suddenly standing in the middle of boatum as well as his other confused looking friends from the boatum, their admin and…

Grians nerves prickled as his eyes set on something he didn’t want to see again in his life time, a towering figure of swaying fabric and observing purple eyes that burned into your soul. His own body made him want to puff out his wings and demand for the watcher to simply get to their point instead of standing between everyone looking bigger then life, so silently full of themselves. But if they were here to drag him back despite disowning his old role as a watcher he didn’t want to bring attention to himself incase it blew up and ended up getting his friends in danger.

“Xisumavoid.” The watcher didn’t technically have a body so it talked through peoples thoughts which left all the confused members of boatum feeling some what violated in a strange way. “Watcher. What’s the sudden appearance for?” X didn’t at all seem uncomfortable like many of the others as he had likely talked to them many times before as a admin and instead got straight to the point. “We have located a parasite in your server.” That made Grain gulp, they must have found him which made the drawn out situation feel almost cruel, he just wanted to be called out already sure he could fight against it and eventually settle back into hermitcraft. It would be a little awkward explaining his past to people but he could do it, reluctantly.

“A parasite,” X didn’t seemed amused by the choice of words but didn’t interrupt. “Due to many servers being corrupted as of late we have decided that genocide of a certain leach is the best corse of action.” This made people shuffle uncomfortably although many of them were sure they were safe, this wasn’t the first time the watchers had meddled with the code to keep the place running but it was often frowned upon from players who didn’t like unnatural change.

“How does this concern my hermits?” X had no friendliness in his voice, not being a huge fan of the watchers himself and just genuinely trying to protect his hermits as he always assumed the worst. “It seems you have overlooked a few strains of code and have allowed a vermin to live amongst you.” The words the watcher was using to describe this certain mob was awfully cruel.

X didn’t falter in his stance even though inside the alarm bells had started to ring, one of his hermits, one of his friends were about to be in some serious danger if he didn’t wrap this up quickly. “I’d appreciate it if you didn’t insult my work while in my server.” He skimmed over the most important part. “We do apologise.” Anyone could tell that that was utter bullshit. “We will be dealing with the issue and then leaving soon.” The watcher turned to face the shaky hermits, it’s eyes not looking anywhere in particular as it glared.

“If you could just surrender without issue,” It was talking to someone and Grian fully expected those eyes to be on him, even though this didn’t fully match his situation he couldn’t come up with any other reason it would teleport all of them instead of an actual mob, the watcher had to be there for him. But his heart started to beat when he realised those cruel purple eyes were trained on someone else. He turned to look at the victim, Scar. The man was shaking all over, his hands wrapped up in his jacket with such a tight hold he could probably rip it, the poor guy looked like he was about to pass out, tears in his eyes, utter desperation and terror conveying what had frozen him in place. “Vex.” The watcher finished.

“You must be mistaken, Scar has been with us for many years, he’s just as human as the rest of us. We would have known if he was Vex.” Impulse was quick to step in as he was not about to let the poor sweet man he knew as Scar get labelled as a world destroying, disgusting trickster.

The man in question was stuck in place looking more lost then he had ever seemed, he was scared, he feared for his life and shrunk into himself, this was something no one had ever wanted to see of their friend. Curling up in such almost traumatised way, he should safe and comfortable, never threatened to the point of tears. They all knew the smiling hermit very well and were positive there had been a mistake. The watcher was somehow wrong.

“No mistakes have been made. It’s unusual that a Vex would be able to take up a place in a community but Vex are tricksters in nature, created to destroy.” The voice was cruel as ever as it floated closer to the catatonic terraformer, it’s eyes never leaving the down cast green eyes.

Grain stepped in front of the watcher, he didn’t care if that triggered them into realising he was also a watcher, he had to protect Scar from permadeath, from a literal genocide. “I think it’s best you leave.” X’s voice made the panicked actions of the hermits silence and the watcher straighten up, eyes still on a trembling Scar. “I’m afraid I cannot leave this disgusting excuse for a mob here.” “Don’t you dare speak about him in just a horrid way!” Pearls voice cut through the silent horror Scar had been trapped in and he suddenly broke down.

He hid his face in scarred hands and sobbed, a genuinely miserable sound no one had heard ever come from such a jolly guy. Tears leaked out his palms and trailed down his wrists, the sound made everyone freeze for a long few seconds, completely caught off guard by the sobs. He had never seemed so broke.

Mumbo wrapped his arms around his friend tightly, pulling him against his chest in almost an equally desperate manner. “Hey- Hey it’s okay! It’s all just a big misunderstanding, your okay, your safe.” He was trying to be comforting but it just made Scar wobble in his hold, Scar knew that if he knew he was a vex he would drop him immediately, let him fall to the ground and cry alone.

“Get out of my server.” X demanded but the watcher didn’t seem at all phased. “We will just take it forcefully if your players do not move.” The way the watcher referred to Scar as a ‘it’ made Grians blood boil, how dare they. He deserved so much better then that. “It has all tricked you, it is nothing but a puppet to mayhem.” The watcher tipped its head to the side and suddenly Mumbo was being ripped away from his friend who’s body soon fell to the ground with a loud thump, he tried to hold onto him but was soon pushed away like the rest of the hermits.

“Show your Vex form.” The watcher demanded but Scar couldn’t bare to even look up at it let alone do what it told him to do, besides if he did it would all be over for him, he would be sent away from his home and family and killed or enslaved again, he would never ever be free. “Show your Vex form.” It said again. “He doesn’t have one- just leave him alone!” Impulse yelled as he kicked against the barrier blocks surrounding him.

The watcher seemed to sigh before flicking its finger and picking Scar off of the ground and forcing him to look at him, blood shot green eyes met cold purple eyes. “If you won’t do it we will bring it to the surface forcefully.” It didn’t even wait for him to reply before suddenly Scars eyes shot wide open and a guy wrenching scream of pain echoed through boatum.

He kicked and squirmed against the invisible force that was stopping him from running away as pain shot through his spine and pulsed around him in agonising bursts, making him twitch and choke. “What are you doing to him!? Stop!” Pearl yelled desperately. “Stop it! Your hurting him! Stop it!” Mumbo’s voice was shaking. Impulse and Grian were trying to break out and X stood still, staring in horror. There was nothing he could do but watch, also stuck trying to disable barrier blocks.

Blood started to leak out of Scars nose tin clumps, his choked sobs starting to cough up more blood, blood also trailing down his neck from where it had ran out his ears. He sounded like he as dying and there was nothing the others could do about it. The males eyes started to change, his once piercing green pupils started to fade and were replaced with a haunting solid white, the fingers desperately scratching at thin air started to take on a dark blue tint and sharpen, his teeth and ears also formed into painful points but the worse was yet to come.

Scars screams could probably be heard through out the whole server as the skin on his back started to tear to make way for sharp blood coated bones that stabbed through him, looking incredibly painful. His sobbing grew more intense as his spine sharpened and intertwined with the bones that were starting to look horribly like Vex wings.

He was suddenly dropped with a loud painful sounding thump, keeling over and coughing up gushes of blue and red blood, his eyes so full of pain that his friends could almost feel it. He fell to his side, breath laboured and choked as his body twitched and begged for mercy. “You- you fucking monster.” X felt shaky on his legs as the watcher stared down at his tortured friend like he was a smeared piece of gum.

There he was, laying in a pile of human and.. and vex blood, fighting to gain control of his pulsing limbs again and trying desperately to breath. He was undeniably a Vex. But that wasn’t what the players were thinking about in that moment. Their thoughts were a mess of fear for their friend, anger for the forced transformation Scar clearly didn’t want to have to do, and utter terror as they realised that Scar was indeed a Vex and the Vex kind had been sighed up for genocide.

They obviously wanted to know more but the feeling of love for their friend Scar trumped any feelings they might have felt against him for being a vex, vex or not he was still their friend Scar and they were going to do everything they could to protect him.

“There. We will be leaving now that our point has been proven. The vex will soon be replaced with a less hostile mob to fill their roles in mansions.” The watcher spoke in the same tone as it had this entire time. Scar shook as he tried to push himself up on torn up limbs and collect himself enough to speak. “I’m not a- m-monster…” his voice came out shaky and broken, utter despair dripping off of his words. “I- please… I- I plant flowers… I build things, I’m not a monster, I- I’m a good person..” they couldn’t tell if Scar was trying to convince the Watcher not to kill him or convince his friends not to hate him and that hurt all the hermits.

“I-… please… Y- you must understand- I never chose to be a -vex… I’m still hum-an.. Im not a mob…” Sobs wracked his body as he failed to hold himself up and fell back to the ground defeated and panting. “Silence pest.” The watcher was the least human thing there, no empathy to even glance at. “His name is Scar!” Grian was yelling. “He has a beautiful soul! He’s not some random mob you can ban!” Mumbo was banging on the blocks. “He’s a good person please just leave him alone! He’s never done anything to hurt anyone!” Impulse almost begged.

“You seem to think you have a choice in the matter.” The watcher started to drag Scars battered and bleeding body behind it towards it’s original spawn block, not seeming to care as Scar whimpered out sounds of pain and pitiful begs of mercy. “Stop.” The watcher paused and glanced to Grain, their eyes locked and Grians own eyes shifted to their natural purple, now was not the time to question this so the other hermits didn’t. “If you permakill him there will be hell to pay.” His voice held no mercy. The watcher hummed. “That shall be an issue for another day.” And suddenly it was gone in a puff of smoke painted with the Galaxy.

The only sign left of Scar was a heart breaking puddle of blood and his hat that was slowly soaking up said mess in the grass. Red and Blue mixing to make a cruelly ironic purple.

The server broke out in cries for their friend and panicked yelling as they were released from their prisons. Many of them fell to the ground and sobbed for Scar who had just been wrongfully taken from them so suddenly. They mourned their loss in fits of anger, sorrow and denial.

While they cried for their dearest friend, they hadn’t yet given up on him.
