Barbara was angry at Jean. Well, not really angry. More disappointed.
It was Christmas and Jean was at work! She really should take a break, especially on a day like this!
So she needed a plan. Barbara would find a way to stop her sister from overworking herself on a holiday.
Jean wouldn’t stop if she just asked.
Rather, she would say something like “Once I’m done here” and then she’d be done in a month or so.
No, that just wouldn’t work.
Barbara had also tried taking away all of Jean’s paperwork before, but that had made her feel so awful she immediately gave it back.
So that wouldn’t work as well…
Barbara couldn’t get Jean to leave her work and she couldn’t take the work away from Jean…
But there was one last thing she could try.
She didn’t really like the idea, already imagining it made her embarrassed, but it should have a big chance of success!
Barbara stood in front of Jean’s office, knocking on the door.
“Acting grandmaster? May I come in?”
“Yes of course, come in!”
Jean was sitting in front of a big pile of documents, only looking up when Barbara entered, before going straight back to work.
“Big sister please take a break!”, Barbara was surprised for a moment that she actually managed to say that. Of course there was a difference when they were alone but… “I really don’t want you overworking yourself on Christmas! Please take a break. Just for today, ok? Do it for me”.
Judging from the look on her face, Jean was just as surprised, but then she smiled and nodded.
“Alright”, she said, “what should I do instead, then?”
“I’m singing with the others at the cathedral later, how about you come with me and listen? Afterwards we can take a look at the big Christmas tree. I’ve heard that it’s pyro this year. And then we can eat dinner together. I’m sure you will like spending some time outside the office. Just let yourself enjoy something once in a while!”
“I like that idea. Since it’s a special day, and since you extra came here and asked so nicely… Let’s do this!”
“Yeah, let’s do this!”
