Chapter Text
Katsuki Bakugou slammed open the door to the hospital room, an angry look in his eyes, “DEKU.”
“K-kacchan?!” The green haired boy yelped as the unexpected guest entered the room he and his mom occupied.
Bakugou stomped his way over, throwing a bag at his rival, “Take your shitty gift!”
“G-gift??” Izuku wondered allowed, not quite sure why his childhood friend decided to come by the hospital he was staying in after breaking his leg in a villain fight. He was sure he hated his guts.
“Don't think too much into it, Deku,” Bakugou spat. “The shitty old hag made me bring it. It's some homemade cooking or something. If you even like that shit.” He turned on his heel, ready to leave just as quickly as he came.
Izuku's mom smiled at the contents in the bag, “Ah this is from Mitsuki? Tell her we said thank you!”
“Whatever,” the blonde said before walking out the door and closing it behind him.
Finally. The stupid errands his mom gave him out of nowhere were done. He still couldn't believe he had to deliver a present for fucking Deku. Literally nothing in the world could have been more irritating and troublesome.
It was as if he spoke too soon.
As he walked by a room on the same floor he was ‘visiting’, he heard yelling come from the otherside.
“I don't want another shot! They hurt!” It was a girl's voice.
“I'm sorry, (Y/n), but you need it. You won't feel better until you have it.” An older woman's voice.
“What's the point?!” The same girl. “I'm going to die anyways!”
“(Y/n) please, just take the shot--”
“No!”
Suddenly the door burst open, revealing a girl that looked to be about Bakugou's age. She was a bit shorter than him with (color) hair and (color) eyes. She was wearing a hospital gown and had no shoes on.
She took one look at Bakugou, her face paling. She looked as if she was contemplating something, but was interrupted by the nurse that Bakugou could see behind her.
“(Y/n) please! Don't run off again!” She cried.
However, the nurse was too late, and the girl in the hospital gown ran--and she ended up grabbing the blonde by the hand and taking him with her.
“What the-?!” Bakugou gasped out loud as he was pulled through the hallways. Before he could even gain a sense of what was happening, they turned a corner and the girl opened a door and shoved him in. Bakugou stumbled forward, taking in the sight of a few cleaning supplies, deducing right away that he was in a janitor's closet.
The door quickly shut behind them, only a little light illuminating them from the crack at the bottom of the door.
Bakugou could feel the anger rising in him as he couldn't stop his words from forming, “What the fuck is your deal--mhf?!”
The girl's hand shot over his mouth, a ‘shush’ quietly coming from her lips. He could only assume that in this dark she was holding a finger over her mouth. He would have bit her hand if she hadn't removed it a second later once the fast approaching footsteps faded away.
He could hear her let out a sigh, relieved that whoever was chasing her was gone.
He could still hear her voice come out small, but from the little light in the room, he could see her figure turn to him, “Sorry about that. Thanks for going along with it though.”
Bakugou grunted, “Whatever. Move already.” He started to get up, heading towards the door.
He felt a hand quickly wrap around his wrist, keeping him in place, “Wait!”
Bakugou could feel his brows knitting together, but nonetheless stayed in place, “What?!”
“You're Bakugou Katsuki.” She stated bluntly.
Two seconds of silence passed before the explosive teenager started moving, “I'm out of here.”
Her grip became tighter, “Hold on!”
Bakugou's voice came out in a venom strike, “If all you're going to do it state the obvious, then quit wasting my time!”
Another couple seconds of silence ticked by, “You don't remember me?”
He clicked his tongue, “I don’t take the time to remember nobodies.”
“...but we're in the same class at UA…”
“Your point?”
Now having his eyes adjusted, he could see the girl shaking her head, “In any case, how much did you hear?”
“Hah?” Bakugou gave her a dumbfounded look. “The fuck do you mean?”
The girl straightened up, “You were standing outside my hospital room. I'm sure you heard what was happening inside. What did you hear?”
“Why the fuck should I tell you?” He spat.
“Because,” The girl moved her body forward, her face dangerously close to his. “I need to know!”
Bakugou could feel his cheeks starting to heat up, but immediately took it as a sign of rage and pushed her away, “Don't get so fucking close!”
“Tell me!” She yelled, pushing her face against his hand to get closer again.
“Alright already! Geez!” He waited for her to move back to her spot, a little farther from him. “I heard you being a bitch about a needle.”
“And?” Her voice was tough--knowing.
A few moments of silence passed before he finally gave her the answer she was looking for, “That you're gonna die or some shit.”
Another wave of silence before she responded, “I knew it.”
“I'm leaving now,” Bakugou declared, getting ready to stand up again. However, he was once again pulled back down to the ground by the girl that brought him here. He was really starting to get irritated, “You're really pissing me off.”
She paid his words no mind, “I'm going to die soon.”
He didn't say anything. Well, how could he? What the hell was he supposed to say to that?
It didn't matter, because she barely took a pause, “The doctor's can't identify what it is, but I have a disease that's killing me from the inside. They've been trying for years, but nothing has worked. They're still trying, but it's not looking good.”
The mood became gloomy, a sense of sadness and fear lingering in the air. A sensitive topic--he knew that much. However...it was Bakugou we were talking about after all.
“...oh,” Was all he said.
He could see the girl in front of him widen her eyes in surprise, and then tilt her head in confusion, “...'oh'? That's all you have to say? I just told you that I'm going to die from a mystery disease and that's all you can think to say?”
Bakugou let the seconds tick by as he thought of something else to contribute to the conversation, “....good luck, I guess.”
The girl's mouth fell open, shock written everywhere. It took maybe three seconds for that to be erased and be replaced with a smile and heaps of laughter.
It was annoying.
“Why the fuck are you laughing?” Bakugou asked. “Isn't this a touchy subject or something?”
The girl tried calming her laughs, but failed as she talked between them, “No, no...it's just...you're the first person who doesn't give a damn about this.”
“Hah?”
Her laughter quieted down, but the smile remained, “Normally when people learn about my illness they say something like ‘The pretty ones die young!’ or ‘Let me know if I can do anything to make you feel better’. You...you just don't care. It's...nice.”
Before Bakugou could ask what the fuck her problem was, the door to the closet swung open, revealing the nurse from before, panting out of breath.
“(Y/n)! There...you are...I was looking...all over…” She straightened up and took a deep breath, finally catching hers, “Come on now, we really need to get this done.”
The girl let out a sigh, “Fine. I guess I've had my fun for today.” She stood up and followed the nurse, leaving Bakugou to stare out dumbfounded. What in the literal fuck just happened?
The blonde went to finally leave this hellhole, but as he stood up, he saw the girl back in the doorway. He got a lot better look at her now that there was light.
She took a step forward, eyes boring into his, “Hey, don't tell anyone that I'm dying. Okay?”
“(Y/n)! Please!” It was the nurse again, a little farther away.
“Coming!” She called. On her way out, she closed the door to the janitor's closet, sending Bakugou into darkness once more.
“Hey!!” He yelled at the girl who slammed the door in his face. He opened the closet, only to be greeted by unfamiliar faces, the girl nowhere to be seen.
The boy clicked his tongue, slamming the door behind him shut, startling some passerbys.
He stuffed his hands and his pockets, finally leaving the hospital for what felt like the millionth time already.
